Egyptian small businesses embrace social— but could be missing a trick in the age of AI

Zawya19 hours ago
Cairo, Egypt – According to the GoDaddy 2025 Global Entrepreneurship Survey, over half of small businesses in Egypt now primarily operate online, using websites, marketplaces, or social media to sell. This shows a clear shift as entrepreneurs embrace digital channels to reach customers, grow sales, and stay competitive in today's market.
Social Media: A Key Tool with Real Challenges
Social media plays a major role in how small businesses in Egypt operate and grow. Nearly 100% of entrepreneurs say it's important to their sales strategy, and (78%) say it's very important. It has also become the top place to learn about running a business: 80% turn to social media for insights, ahead of traditional educational resources like books and blogs (40%), and even artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT (64%).
But while the value is clear, so are the challenges. When it comes to managing their social media presence, many entrepreneurs struggle with content. 29% say it's hard to come up with engaging ideas for posts, and another 28% don't have enough time to create and post regularly. Even when content is shared, converting engagement into sales remains difficult—53% say they have trouble converting followers into customers, and 45% can't reach the right audience.
'At GoDaddy, we realize how much potential entrepreneurs have—and we also understand how hard it is to turn online effort into real growth,' said Selina Bieber, Vice President of International Markets at GoDaddy. 'That's why we're focused on giving them smart, easy tools like Show in Bio can help turn social engagement into actual sales, without adding more work.'
These hurdles show that while social media is essential, it's not easy. Entrepreneurs need smarter tools and support to turn digital activity into real business growth.
The Rise of Digital-First Small Businesses
Running a business today in Egypt means going beyond a physical store. While 25% of small businesses still work mainly from a physical location, 40% now run their business primarily through their own website. Another 16% operate mostly on social media.
Sales channels also reflect this shift. Though 25% sell in person, 41% use online stores or marketplaces, and another 30% sell directly through social media.
This mix of physical and digital approaches shows that Egyptian small businesses are finding new ways to meet customers—whether in-store, online, or on social media. The ability to combine different methods indicates a significant evolution in business' ability to adapt to customers' needs and preferences.
The Need for Smarter Tools and AI Support
As Egyptian entrepreneurs go digital, many know exactly what would help them sell on social. Nearly half (47%) say they need better ways to reach the right audience, and more than half (54%) want simpler tools for creating and posting content, highlighting a clear demand for practical, time-saving solutions.
AI is starting to play a role, especially among proactive business owners. Those already using AI are more likely to want deeper insights into what's working (60% vs. 33% of non-AI users) and more interested in tips and templates for writing captions and ads (37% vs. 17% of non-AI users). These preferences suggest that small businesses aren't just experimenting with AI—they're looking for smart, focused support that saves time and delivers results.

GoDaddy is committed to helping entrepreneurs succeed with easy-to-use solutions like Show In Bio, GoDaddy Studio, and GoDaddy Airo® all designed to simplify digital marketing and turn engagement into real results.

Tunisia: Inflation rate remains stable at 5.4% in June 2025

Tunis – Tunisia's inflation rate remained stable at 5.4% in June 2025, according to a bulletin issued Saturday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), focusing on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for June 2025. This stability is the result, on one hand, of an accelerated increase in prices in the 'restaurants, cafés and hotels' group (11% in June 2025 compared with 10.8% in May 2025), and on the other hand, a deceleration in the pace of food price rises (6.4% in June 2025 compared with 6.7% in May 2025), according to the INS. The core inflation, excluding food and energy, remained stable at a rate of 5.5%. The prices of free-market (unregulated) products were up by 6.5% year-on-year, while prices of regulated products increased by only 1.5%. Food products sold at free-market prices recorded a 7.2% rise, compared with just 0.7% for food products with regulated prices. On the other hand, the prices of edible oils and eggs fell by 22.7% and 4.7%, respectively. Egypt: El-Wazir announces offering 36 factories to investors at Robbiki Leather City

Arab Finance: Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir announced the launch of the second offering of industrial factories at Robbiki Leather City. This comes within the third phase, which comprises 36 fully equipped factories for finished leather products. The offering will be available on Egypt's Digital Industrial Platform from July 5th to 27th. This initiative follows the success of the first offering, which was launched last December and resulted in the allocation of all offered factories with a coverage rate exceeding 100%. Implemented under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the new offering aims to strengthen local industry and stimulate industrial investment, especially in key sectors with high added value, such as the leather industry. The 36 ready-to-operate factories span areas ranging from 121 to 2,000 square meters (sqm) to meet the investors' various demands. In this regard, six factories (2,000 sqm), 10 factories (1,000 sqm), and 20 industrial workshops (121 sqm) will be channeled through Cairo Company for Investment and Development (CID). El-Wazir noted that these factories serve varied production capacities, adding that multiple units can be merged for expansion-focused investors, ensuring smooth management. He also affirmed the ministry's commitment to supporting serious investors and bolstering a flexible, stable production environment within the Robbiki Leather City. The new offering, available under both instalment sale and operational rent systems, has unprecedented facilitations, including an integrated package of financing solutions secured with the Export Development Bank of Egypt (EBank). This facility covers machinery, working capital, technical support, and export assistance. Moreover, investors at the Robbiki Leather City will receive additional incentives, most notably an additional 50% of export burden refunds, to evolve global competitiveness. © 2020-2023 Arab Finance For Information Technology. Egypt secures natural gas supplies to all sectors via 4 FSRUs

Arab Finance: The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is securing natural gas supplies to all sectors via four floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), according to a statement. This move comes within the first pillar of the ministry's strategy to boost production and secure the state's needs of energy. It helps fulfill the demands of the electricity, industrial, and economic sectors safely and sustainably in line with the changing regional and internation energy market. The strategy aims to diversify the inputs into the national natural gas network to include production from domestic fields, pipeline-imported gas, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Additionally, the ministry signed several agreements with leading international companies to lease advanced FRUs, which will expand the system's capacity and support a stable supply during peak periods. The ministry also highlighted efforts to prepare several new berths and connect them to the national gas grid, sustainably boosting Egypt's gas infrastructure. This will ensure balanced distribution between supply and demand areas to maximize the stability of the national grid. Berths have been deployed at the Sumed and Sonker ports in Ain Sokhna, in addition to the United Gas Derivatives Company (UGDC) berth in Damietta. This comes as part of the final phase of connecting the FSRUs to their designated berths according to the planned timeline. The 'Hoegh Galleon' unit has been deployed at Ain Sokhna since 2024, while the 'Energos Eskimo' and 'Energos Power' are connected to the Sumed and Sonker berths in Ain Sokhna. This is in addition to the 'Winter' unit connected to UGDC's berth in Damietta. Hence, the four units' combined daily capacity during the peak consumption of 2025 will stand at 2,700 million cubic feet. In cooperation with Jordan, a fifth FSRU, Energos Force, is expected to arrive at the Port of Aqaba by the end of July, as it will be connected to the Arab Gas Pipeline. This will add a new gateway to the national grids, enhancing the ability to respond to any emergencies during the summer, with a regasification daily capacity of up to 750 million cubic feet. © 2020-2023 Arab Finance For Information Technology.
