RM100 One-off Cash Aid, Higher Rahmah Sales Allocation Timely To Ease People's Burden
Malaysian Islamic Chamber of Commerce (DPIM) president Datuk Mohammad Sahar Mat Din said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement reflects the government's targeted and comprehensive approach to addressing long-standing issues faced by the people.
'Overall, it is a very appropriate and timely move, especially the RM100 initiative under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) or basic Rahmah contribution initiative and the increased allocation for the Rahmah MADANI Sales," he told Bernama.
Meanwhile, the chairperson of the Bandar Tun Razak Single Mothers Association, Zaini Zakaria, described the RM100 assistance as proof of the government's concern for the low-income group and expressed support for the continuation of the initiative.
However, the 66-year-old Zaini hopes the government will consider expanding the scope of purchases under SARA to include wet goods such as chicken, fish, and vegetables, which are also essential daily necessities.
'If we can buy wet goods, that would be good too. Sometimes the biggest kitchen expenses come from fresh produce, not just dry goods,' she said.
Personal driver Nor Azreen Nabila Mohd Maliki, 30, also welcomed the government's decision to maintain toll rates and fuel prices, saying it provides much-needed relief for those who commute daily to work.
Living in Sepang, Selangor, and working in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Nor Azreen Nabila said fuel and toll costs are among her most burdensome fixed expenses.
'I really appreciate the government's move to postpone toll hikes and maintain fuel prices. My daily commute is long, so any savings on these costs really help,' she said.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Thailand and Cambodia have asked Malaysia to keep mediating their ongoing border conflict, even after Malaysia's term as Asean chair ends next year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told the Dewan Rakyat today. He said Putrajaya would continue acting as a mediator until the dispute is fully resolved. 'This responsibility is not limited to our position as Asean Chair. Anwar also stressed the importance of maintaining Asean centrality in managing regional disputes, warning against the direct involvement of major powers. He said any future monitoring or peacekeeping presence at the border should comprise representatives from Asean member states only. 'We want to avoid the direct involvement of major powers. These negotiations must remain an Asean initiative,' he said. He added that external logistical support from countries such as the United States or China may be accepted — but only if offered neutrally and without political interference. Anwar also urged all parties to refrain from provocations that could derail the ongoing peace efforts.

Malaysia to extend border peacekeeping role beyond Asean chair term
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will continue to host peace-monitoring efforts along the tense Thailand-Cambodia border under the General Border Committee (GBC), even after its term as Asean chair ends next year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today. He said the mandate entrusted to Malaysia to coordinate the border issue is not tied to its Asean chairmanship and will remain in place until the situation stabilises — ideally within three months. "I was asked to continue the role until the issue is resolved. It's not bound by Asean or a fixed timeline, but we are targeting a resolution within three months. "But in any negotiation, we cannot set a rigid deadline," he said during Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat. Anwar emphasised that any conflict involving Asean member states must be resolved internally, without intervention from major powers such as the United States or China. However, he said logistical assistance from these countries would be welcomed, provided peacekeeping efforts remain under Asean oversight. "In any negotiation process, there must be a ceasefire. This way, we can avoid intervention from major powers. "If there is a need for a peacekeeping presence, it should only involve Asean military attachés. Logistical support from countries like the United States or China is welcome — but not troops," he said.

'Hypocritical to act against Chinese school's upside-down flag when minister has yet to act on own flag blunder'
BRICKBATS have been hurled at Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek for vowing to take strict action against SJKC Chung Hua in Port Dickson for flying the Jalur Gemilang upside down. There is little doubt that the PKR Wanita chief who is awaiting a full investigation report into the matter is pressured to act given the opposition which has a bone to pick with DAP has played up the matter to perfection on various social media platforms. 'Has an upside-down flag become an annual event for Merdeka Day8 celebrations?' queried Gerakan Pengundi Sedar (GPS) (@pengundi_sedar) on X. 'Every year, there's bound to be an incident. 'However, due to carelessness, one of the flags was installed upside down. This incident was recorded by the public and uploaded to social media,' read the statement. 'The school received the information around 5pm and took corrective measures immediately.' That Fadhlina is succumbing to political pressure to act against the school rather than to just conduct an internal probe for what is seemingly a 'honest mistake' has irked Malaysiakini subscribers who mocked her for giving the matter a full-blown treatment. 'Fadhlina, are there any countries or organisations which have not ACCIDENTALLY flown their flags upside down? Have YOU not made any mistakes at all?' rued DarkHorse. 'A sensible person would have considered the number of times the flag flown in the correct orientation vs the flag flown upside down before initiating an investigation.
