BSc students at PRSU can now study Sanskrit

According to university officials, this initiative is part of the recently implemented National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which seeks to offer students multidisciplinary learning opportunities and improve their employability.
Previously, undergraduate students in these affiliated colleges were required to study three subjects within a single faculty or stream. Under the new system, students must now study two major subjects along with one minor subject from a different faculty, shared officials. For example, science students can opt for humanities subjects such as Sanskrit, Political Science, or Economics as their minor—provided that the chosen minor is offered by their college, explained the officials.
Confirming the move, PRSU vice-chancellor Prof Akhilesh Kumar Singh said that the minor subject will be studied during the first two years of the undergraduate programme. In the third year, students will focus solely on their two major subjects, he added.
A bachelor's degree will be awarded after three years of study. In the fourth year, students will specialise in one of their major subjects and will earn a bachelor's (Honours) degree. Those who score over 75% in all three years will be eligible for an 'Honours with Research' track, and upon completing the fifth year, they will also receive a postgraduate degree, he explained.
Formerly known as Allahabad State University, PRSU was established in 2016. It has around 717 affiliated colleges, including Prayagraj (383), Kaushambi (78), Fatehpur (82) and Pratapgarh (174). These include government-run, government-aided and self-financed colleges.

If there is knowledge in life, all obstacles can be removed and one can move forward. Now, we are in the era of AI and digitalisation. AI is now being used in all fields. 'The National Education Policy has been launched in schools and colleges in our state as well. It has been formulated in line with reality. On June 23, Tripura became the third state in the country to achieve full literacy. The literacy rate is 95.6%. After Mizoram and Goa, our state has achieved the recognition of a fully literate state, which is a matter of great pride for us. Three new general degree colleges will be opened in Ambassa, Kakraban, and Karbook,' he said. He said that currently, the state has educational institutions like the National Law University, National Forensic Science University, National Sanskrit University, Central University, IIIT, Fishery College, Agricultural College, Veterinary College, TIT, etc. Apart from this, many more educational institutions are being set up in different places privately, the release added. Local MLA and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Swami Shubhkarananda Maharaj, eminent social worker G.R. 1 2 3 Malda: Researchers at Bengal's Raiganj University have discovered a new species of soil bacteria that exhibits strong antimicrobial properties and significantly enhances seed germination, indicating its immense potential in promoting plant health and productivity. The bacterium was isolated from the rhizosphere of mulberry plants, a key component of the region's sericulture and farming systems. The newly discovered species has been named Bacillus ayatagriensis, inspired by the name of the lead scientist Amit Kumar Mandal's daughter Aayat.
