CPM alleges ‘massive' scam
CPM leaders Ch Babu Rao and D Kasi Nath, along with other party members, participated in the agitation, raising slogans against what they termed a 'conspiracy' to privatise RTC and undermine small and medium-scale traders in favour of big corporations.
The core of the protest revolves around the alleged allocation of five acres of the old RTC bus stand land, valued at Rs 400 crore, to Lulu Mall.
Addressing the gathering, Babu Rao and Kasi Nath sharply criticised the government's actions. 'Betraying the people of Andhra and pledging their lands and public assets to foreign companies is an act of treachery,' they stated.
They dismissed the claim that Lulu Mall would create hundreds of jobs, arguing it was 'inhumane' to destroy the livelihoods of thousands of small traders in the process.
The CPM also raised concerns about the alleged gifting of a Rs 25 crore municipal land in Brindavan Colony to the Raghavendra Math, stating that 'Vijayawada is gradually being put up for sale.' They questioned if 'wealth creation' meant handing over government and public wealth to foreign corporations.
They deemed it illegal for the government to forcefully acquire public land for metro and other public transport systems in Vijayawada, while simultaneously giving away RTC lands at 'dirt-cheap prices' to multinational corporations.
They urged the public to mobilise for the protection of public assets and called on the government to reconsider and withdraw its proposals to allocate land to the Lulu Group.
CPM leaders Boyi Satyababu, B Ramana Rao, P Krishna, K Durga Rao, and EV Narayana were present.

This development is a result of persistent advocacy and public pressure over the years. The Mewat RTI Manch, a local activist group, has been at the forefront of this campaign since 2013, conducting hunger strikes and protests. Also, the group has filed a petition signed by over 20,000 residents to draw attention to the perils of existing narrow roads and demand immediate corrective measures. Initially, a ₹186-crore proposal was approved in 2019, but the project was put on hold following construction plan for Delhi-Mumbai Expressway through the area. Now, with a renewed focus and an increased budget, the Centre has moved forward with a revised estimate of ₹325 crore. Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh, who has been a vocal advocate for the project, emphasised its transformative potential for Mewat. "The project is not just about a road; it's about giving the people of this region better connectivity, safety and opportunities they've long been denied," he said. Drop SIR: Stalin to Centre
Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin has demanded that the Union govt drop the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, comparing the exercise to 'playing with fire'. In a social media post on Friday, Stalin said the SIR was being misused to erase voters from disadvantaged and dissenting communities, so that the outcome could be tilted in favour of the BJP . "This is not about reform. It is about engineering outcomes," he said. He said what had happened in Bihar during the SIR was a telling example of the potential threat posed by the exercise. Any threat to our democracy will be met with firm resistance," he added. Stalin said that TN will raise its voice against SIR with full force. "Democracy belongs to the people. It will not be stolen," Stalin said in the post with the tag 'Quit SIR.' Meanwhile, CPM state secretary P Shanmugam has written to chief electoral officer Archana Patnaik asking her to convene an all-party meeting to discuss SIR. Stating that there are reports about preparatory work for commencing SIR in TN too, Shanmugam said the Election Commission of India should listen to views of political parties and then proceed with electoral roll revision.

CM seeks Centre's nod, funding for major infra projects in state
Mumbai: CM Devendra Fadnavis sought permission from the Union finance ministry to secure loans from the World Bank and other financial institutions for various projects in the state. At a meeting with Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman , Fadnavis sought permission for a loan of Rs 8,651 crore from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for building concrete roads in villages with a minimum population of 1,000 persons. Assistance of Rs 4,326 crore was sought for tackling the rising sea level in the state, and the third project is to process sewage and use the treated wastewater for industries, for which another Rs 4,326 crore is required. The CM also submitted a proposal to the Union Ministry of Rural Development to build 14,000 km of roads in Maharashtra. Fadnavis also met with Union home minister Amit Shah at Parliament House for 25 minutes.
