Oasis drummer Tony McCarroll reveals real reason he was sacked from band & makes surprise admission about Liam Gallagher

The Sun2 days ago
HE famously got the sack from Oasis in 1995 – less than a year after the band released their massive debut album, Definitely Maybe.
And now former drummer Tony McCarroll admits he would definitely love to make amends with Noel Gallagher, who was the one to give him the boot.
9
At a fan event in Newcastle, Tony, said: 'Would I sit down and have a cup of tea, a Rich Tea, with Noel, and go, 'What the fk happened, mate?'. I would.'
Recalling the clash that saw him sacked, Tony said: 'There was an incident in Paris. I was next door to Noel's hotel room, which I didn't know.
'I had an argument with some girl I was with and the next day we were doing the soundcheck.
'I just finished my bit, and he turned around and, in front of everybody, he went, 'You fing keep me awake again, you're getting fing sacked, mate'.
'Probably the most stupid thing I've ever done in my life, but I fronted him and said, 'You won't f*ing speak to me like that again, no chance'. It was only a matter of weeks later I got the P45.'
Although the row meant Tony was kicked out of the band, he insists he doesn't regret standing up for himself, adding: 'What sort of man would it make me if I didn't?
"Everybody was under threat every day, but it was just bravado.
'I never saw it being something serious like losing your position in the band.'
While Tony, who these days teaches drumming, has not spoken to Noel since their clash, he said he's been in touch with Liam and guitarist Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs.
'Everyone thinks Liam's a nutcase, but he's a shockingly nice guy,' Tony explained.

'A lot of that stuff is bravado. It might be nervousness, something about him where he just can't deal with whatever it is, people in his face.'
He added of being left behind as the band rocketed to fame: 'If the roles were swapped, what do you do? You keep going.
'They were on the way to superstardom, the stadium gigs forever.'
Tony has not yet seen Oasis on their sellout reunion tour, which will see them play Wembley Stadium tonight and at the weekend.
But the musician, who drummed on all of Definitely Maybe, as well as hit singles Whatever and Some Might Say, is still immensely proud of his role.
Tony said: 'I wish I had a few more quid, but I've got to be proud and happy that I've made my mark.
'We were The Beatles of the Nineties. It was mayhem.'

NEW TUNE'S NO RAYE OF SUNSHINE
9
RAYE looks hot here but she's been taking inspiration from the cold for her new album.
The Escapism singer posed in a black swimsuit on Instagram as she opened up about how 'personal aches and pains' have helped her new song The Winter Woman.
It is expected to feature on the follow-up to her 2023 debut album My 21st Century Blues, which won her six Brit Awards, as she admitted that her sadness means her new record is now starting to take shape.
She explained: 'I know it's July, but I've been writing this song called The Winter Woman.
'The sad feelings we wrestle with do make great songs I think, and considering this seems to be a chapter in my life where I am swimming through some personal aches and pains, I'd say this album is now beginning to move swimmingly.
'Every cloud . . . lots of love Raye.'
ANNE'S READY FOR THE RE-RUN
9
ANNE HATHAWAY looks like she's running away from a really bad smell, or an incoming bing while filming The Devil Wears Prada sequel.
The actress, who plays Runway assistant Andrea Sachs, was seen hot-footing down a road in New York for one scene.
And I've no doubt she was legging it from her mega-bitch boss Miranda Priestly, played by the brilliant Meryl Streep.
The pair are reprising their roles, alongside Stanley Tucci's Nigel Kipling, for the follow-up to the hit 2006 film.
As a young reporter, The Devil Wears Prada was one of my favourite films, and it taught me a lot.
Always be kind, always be on time and whatever you do – don't be an Emily . . .
JULIA STILL IN VOGUE FOR BIOPIC
9
OZARK actress Julia Garner has revealed Madonna 's long-awaited movie biopic IS still in the works – despite the fact Madge is also working on a TV series about her life.
Julia was rumoured to have been cast as the Vogue singer – and even joined her on stage during the Celebration Tour in 2023.
She admitted she learnt to dance for the audition and added: 'I had to convince Madonna that I can dance and sing, and sing with her.'
On how she channelled the music legend, she told the SmartLess podcast: 'I thought, what would Madonna do? Which is convince you that she deserved to be in this room.'
ALESHA'S IN IT FOR THE LOVE
9
ALESHA DIXON is already back in the studio working on new tunes – just a year after dropping her comeback single Ransom.
The Britain's Got Talent judge shared a video of herself recording a new song in a London music studio i with fans on Instagram.
It's been ten years since Alesha's last album, Do It For Love, and last year she told Bizarre's Howell she's just putting out the tunes she wants to make.
Alesha, right, said. 'I'm an independent artist so it's a lot, energetically, for me to put myself back out there.
'At this point in my life and career, it's just about what makes me feel good.'
With October marking a decade since Do It For Love, we're really hoping that she'll release something to coincide with the anniversary.
LULU is returning to the stage in a new musical of To Sir, With Love, 58 years after starring in the original movie with Sidney Poitier.
She will star in two shows on November 24 at London's Gillian Lynne Theatre. It will feature her original title track, the highest-selling song of 1967, which reached No 1 in the US.
IT'S A CLAP ON THE BACK FROM PAUL
9
SIR PAUL McCARTNEY started clapping before he'd even walked into the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts graduation awards.
The Beatles legend was seen greeting fans outside the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall before helping to honour a number of leading figures in the entertainment world who were made LIPA companions yesterday.
The Wombats, who met and formed at LIPA, were honoured by Paul during the ceremony, along with actors James Nesbitt and Adrian Lester.
Paul also handed out an honour to movie director Sam Mendes.
It's certainly perfect timing for the pair to get together, with Sam's four film biopics about the Fab Four currently in pre-production.
From what I've heard, the films are already coming together brilliantly, with stars, Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Joseph Quinn and Barry Keoghan preparing to start filming in the coming months.
ZARA'S HOT TIFF TRACK
ZARA LARSSON has worked with everyone from MNEK to David Guetta and Clean Bandit.
Now the Swedish singer has lined up a very surprising collaboration – and I think it will go down a storm with her fans.
Insiders have told me Zara has called on reality TV sensation Tiffany 'New York' Pollard for a new single called Hot And Sexy.
She became an internet sensation on a series of shows in the US before a stint on Celebrity Big Brother here in 2016, where she clashed with Gemma Collins.
She also went viral during her infamous 'David's dead' breakdown, where she mistakenly believed their housemate David Gest had died, after Angie Bowie told her that her ex-husband, rock star David, had passed away.
A source said: 'Zara is a big fan of Tiffany's and has seen the cultural significance of what she does.
'On TikTok, Tiffany is off the charts and Zara approached her to see if she wanted to team up.
'Tiff helped write the track as well as singing alongside Zara on it.
'It's such a fun, upbeat song – it's going to be massive.
'Zara had so much fun working with her.
'They're going to be firm friends for life.'
Tiff is outspoken, feisty and isn't afraid to tell you exactly what she's thinking.
I'm here for this new pop star era, and you can bet her fans will lose their minds when Hot And Sexy drops.
NET CATFISH FREE TICKETS
CATFISH AND THE BOTTLEMEN fans have been snapping up tickets for their homecoming show in Cardiff on Friday – after they were given away for free.
The Welsh band have struggled to fill the city's Principality Stadium, with Ticketmaster teaming up with voucher websites to get bums on seats.
Fans clamoured to grab their tickets, with one writing on a ticket deal website: 'Never see many of these in the principality stadium, bagged 3 tickets.'
Another wrote: 'Bloody hell, going but should have waited.
'Great band and an absolute no brainer at this price.'
Fans are now keeping a close eye on this Sunday's gig at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, as plenty of seats are still available.
I expect Ticketmaster will be dishing out the same freebie codes too.

Liam Gallagher makes sweet onstage gesture to brother Noel during Oasis' Wembley gig after fears a bust-up could halt the live shows amid signs of growing tension

Liam Gallagher made a sweet onstage gesture to brother Noel as Oasis took to the stage at London's Wembley stadium on Wednesday night. It's been almost a month since the siblings performed together for the first time in 16 years following an epic falling out backstage in Paris which sparked the band's split. And while it's been feared that a major bust-up between the once warring brothers could put a halt to the live show s, their latest gig showed that the pair are still on track for the time being. As they continued their Oasis '25 tour at during their thirds show at Wembley, Liam, 52, left fans in awe as he dedicated a song to his older brother, 58. Ahead of belting out his next track, Liam told the crowd: 'Now I've gotta dedicate this next tune to our kid - Stand By Me', reports The Sun. The emotional moment was captured by a fan who shared a clip to X, with music lovers rushing to the comments to share how it made them feel. They penned: 'Stop I'll cry'; 'Oh my heart' 'I love this! Wish I could be at one of these biblical gigs!!!I love Oasis. xxxx.'' 'I'M GONNA CRY THIS IS THE CUTEST.' The surprisingly touching moment comes after fears for the tour's future after it was revealed that Liam had been spending more time with his dog than Noel on the reunion tour. On July 4 when the tour kicked off and Cardiff's Principality Stadium witnessed the sight of Liam with his arm around Noel after 16 years, it seemed the brothers had achieved their aim to convincing fans the guns had fallen silent. What that sight didn't reveal, however, was the sheer amount of effort that has gone into making it happen. Team Oasis has gone to enormous lengths to maintain an image of warm, fraternal harmony throughout the 41-gig tour by maintaining the 'magic' that Noel and Liam have put their past grievances behind them. Paranoia is rife and so desperate are they not to let the truth come out that, the Mail can reveal, backstage staff including security at every venue are forced to put stickers over their camera phones to prevent filming the brothers' relationship when they are not public-facing. The emotional moment was captured by a fan who shared a clip to X, with music lovers rushing to the comments to share how it made them feel But insiders have exclusively spoken to the Mail and shared for the first time that behind the scenes fears are mounting about how long the brothers can keep this charade up. One source close to the tour said: 'Liam is spending more time with his dog on this tour than with Noel – they absolutely cannot stand each other still and it's proving to be a real problem, not to mention a logistical nightmare.' Indeed Liam is said to be 'inseparable' from his pampered pup Buttons, a ridgeback he rescued from the charity Happy Doggo in Thailand in 2023. It's a relationship that is a far cry from the one with his older brother, whom he's relentlessly bad-mouthed since their dramatic fall-out in 2009. No wonder organisers are doing all they can to stop history repeating itself. After their final London gig at the end of September, the brothers are scheduled to perform in Japan, Australia, Argentina and Chile before rounding off the tour in Brazil in November. The Mail has learned that plans are in place for the brothers to travel in separate private jets to minimise the time spent in each other's company because, as the source said: 'Flying for hours together in a metal box thousands of feet in the air is a recipe for disaster.'
