Lili Reinhart to star in The Loev Hypothesis
The 28-year-old actress will lead the cast of the adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's New York Times best-selling novel for Amazon MGM Studios and MRC, and will also executive produce the movie.
The Love Hypothesis sees Biology PhD candidate Olive Smith and tyrannical professor Dr. Adam Carlsen embark on a fake romance to see their calculated theories on love get thrown into chaos.
Claire Scanlon will direct the movie from a script by The Sleepover scribe Sarah Rothschild, while Elizabeth Cantillon will produce and Lili and author Ali serving as executive producers.
Announcing the movie, Ali - who released The Love Hypothesis in 2021 and saw it spend 10 months on the New York Times bestseller list - said in a statement: 'Honestly, I still can't believe this is happening? Elizabeth Cantillon, Claire Scanlon, and Lili Reinhart have all created, produced, or starred in works that I'm absolutely feral about, and I am beyond honoured that they're choosing to bring their talent to this project. Books and films are very different media, and I have complete trust in this brilliant team.
"I cannot wait to see the final product they'll come up with. I hope they have as much fun filming as I had while writing the book.'
The project has been announced just weeks after it was revealed Lili was to appear opposite Paul Walter Hauser in the comedy thriller The Very Best People.
Brian Swibel's upcoming film is his directorial debut and the two stars will appear alongside Tim Roth, Jake Lacey, Jai Courtney and Kerry Bishe.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, Deadline reports The Very Best People will be based on John Lavelle's stage play of the same name, and is due to enter production in New York on 22 May.
Set in a Staten Island pub, The Very Best People follows two childhood friends who, after the mysterious shooting of a disgraced NYPD detective, embark on a misguided mission for redemption.
Armed with conspiracy theories and a warped sense of patriotism, they plot to confront the so-called 'Deep State', leading to a series of absurd and violent events, including a light-hearted kidnapping.
Lavelle is also due to write the movie's script alongside Blades of Glory scribe Craig Cox.
The Very Best People will be produced by Brent Emery, Justin Klosky, Alex Peace-Power, Tara Smith and Bita Khorrami for Swibel's Triptyk Studios alongside Bonnie Timmermann.

Henry Cavill has said the Highlander reboot is taking 'all of [his] focus'. The 42-year-old actor is due to portray Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod in director Chad Stahelski's reimagining of the 1986 action flick of the same name, and Cavill has now said he will be deep in production for Highlander soon. When The Hollywood Reporter asked the Man of Steel star what projects he'd be working on this summer, he said: 'Highlander! That is taking all of my focus. 'It's a project that I'm extremely excited about. This character is going to be a lot of fun to play, and I'm loving working with Chad Stahelski. He is a very talented man.' Filming for Highlander had initially started in January in Scotland, with Amazon MGM Studios said to be targeting a 2026 release for the movie. In Highlander, immortal warrior Connor MacLeod (Cavill) battles across centuries, facing duels with others like him. In modern-day New York, he must confront his greatest foe to claim the ultimate prize. Cavill will be taking on the role of Connor MacLeod from Christopher Lambert - who portrayed the action hero in the original series - and Stahelski said he had persuaded him to sign on by pitching the project as a martial arts-focused movie that centred around an intense character arc for the swordsman. The John Wick director told The Direct: 'My selling point was, to [Cavill], look, you've got a guy that's been alive for over 500 years. He's the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation. 'So you get to cover quite a broad spread of a character arc there. And you get to experience someone that's trained over 500 years and sort of played [with many types of] martial arts.' The Ballerina producer added his Highlander film would be set 'beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong', teasing that it's 'a bit of a love story, but not how you think'. He said: 'We're bringing it forward from the early 1500s in the highlands to the beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong, and seeing how it goes. 'There's big opportunity for action. There's a chance to play a character that not a lot of people get to play. And it's a bit of a love story, but not how you think. On John Wick, I learned a lot on how to bend the storytelling a little ... another kind of myth.' The Highlander reboot will feature Russell Crowe as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, originally portrayed by Sir Sean Connery, alongside Industry star Marisa Abela in a new, undisclosed role. Following the announcement of her casting, Abela shared that it was a 'real honour to step into such a legacy' and added that she was 'looking forward to working with Henry and Russell on something this iconic'.

Pamela Anderson has hailed Liam Neeson for putting her at ease during the filming of The Naked Gun reboot. The former Baywatch actress, 58, has been widely reported to be in a relationship with Schindler's List star Liam, 73, and she has now spoken to the New York Times to praise her co-star him for helping ease her nerves as they shot the cop comedy reboot. She said: 'He has so much charm and so much charisma that you kind of just fall into it. 'I can't explain it because I've never experienced it before.' The new Naked Gun film marks a reboot of the classic American crime spoof franchise originally made famous by Leslie Nielsen. Liam, known for dramatic and action-heavy roles in the likes of Taken and Batman Begins, also admitted to having doubts about leading a comedy. He told the New York Times: 'I don't think of myself as funny-funny, but I love laughing and gagging about.' Reflecting on his performance, he added: 'I thought I was OK, seriously. I thought I was OK.' The Naked Gun franchise began in 1982 with the TV series Police Squad! and expanded into three successful films. A source close to the production has told People Pamela and Liam are 'in the early stages' of a relationship, calling it 'a budding romance'. The insider added: 'It's sincere, and it's clear they're smitten with each other.' Pamela and Liam pair are currently promoting the film and, according to the source, are 'enjoying each other's company' off-screen during the promotional tour.

Billy Joel insists DUIs 'never happened'
Billy Joel is adamant he's never faced a drink driving charge. The veteran musician, 76, has addressed long-standing rumours about his past in his new documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes and he has insisted he's never been prosecuted for a DUI (driving under the influence charge) despite previous reports suggesting he got in trouble with the law after a series of motoring mishaps. He explained: "There's this rumor that I have all these DUIs. That never happened. But people keep repeating the myth. 'Oh, he's got so many DUIs.' "I never had a DUI. So f*** you. The press can be mean. So having that much attention paid to you is not easy." Joel was involved in a number of car accidents over the years - including a 1999 accident, a 2003 crash when he drove his Mercedes-Benz into a tree in Sag Harbor, New York and another smash in 2004 when he crashed his car into a house in Bayville, New York. However, Joel has since insisted the car accidents had nothing to do with alcohol and were actually linked to the "deep depression" he was suffering at the time. In a 2013 interview with the New York Times, he explained: "{The accidents had] nothing to do with the booze ... I never had a DUI in my life. That's another fallacy. "Look at the police records. My mind wasn't right. I wasn't focused. I went into a deep, deep depression after 9/11. 9/11 just knocked the wind out of me, and "I don't know even now if I've recovered from it. "It really, really hurt that man could do that to man. And then there was a break-up with somebody, and it took me a while to get me back on my feet again." In the documentary, Joel also opened up about becoming embroiled in a feud with Sir Elton John after the pop icon encouraged him to go to rehab. Joel explained: "Elton had made a comment that he thought I needed real rehab. He chalked it up to, 'Oh, he's a drunk.' And that really hurt me. "I said wait a minute? Don't you know me better than that? And there was bad blood for a little while. There was a dovetailing of things that happened during that time." Billy recalled feeling at "rock bottom" when he read Elton's comments. He said: "I was disillusioned with what I thought it was all supposed to mean. It was like all the signs were pointing to me: enough. And I wrote this letter to the band. 'I don't want to do this anymore. I'm gonna stop.'" Elton made the comments to Rolling Stone magazine back in 2011, shortly after they toured together. The singer explained at the time that they had "so many cancelled tours because of illnesses and various other things, alcoholism". Elton - who also struggled with addiction in the 70s and 80s - added: "He's going to hate me for this, but every time he goes to rehab they've been light ... I love you Billy, and this is tough love." Billy did actually spend time in rehab in 2005, and he previously acknowledged that addiction created "problems" in his life. The singer stopped drinking altogether in 2021.
