How do positive changes like quitting smoking reflect on relationships?
Dr Santosh Bangar, senior consultant psychiatrist at Gleneagles Hospitals, Parel, Mumbai, said that when a partner tends to quit vices like smoking, drinking, or anger issues after getting into a relationship or marriage, it shows commitment, sincerity, and willingness to make a fresh start. 'It shows that the partner values the other partner, respects, and is willing to change,' said Dr Bangar.
Quitting a habit isn't easy; it takes self-awareness, emotional support, patience, and sometimes professional help.
'It also needs a non-judgmental environment where they feel encouraged, not pressured, or blamed for their habits. When such changes happen, trust and emotional connection strengthen, and the relationship blossoms further. It signals maturity and mutual respect, showing that the partner wants to build a healthier, more stable life together and is looking for a bright future,' said Dr Bangar.
However, Dr Bangar pointed out that the change must come from within, not just to please the other person.
'When done willingly, it becomes sustainable, meaningful, and brings happiness to both partners. One should not quit to impress the other partner or out of fear that your partner will leave you. Be responsible and make the decision, keeping your health in mind. Ultimately, it is not about perfection, but about growing into a better version of yourself for the relationship to thrive,' said Dr Bangar.

The body gives signals that we need to pay attention to Remember that the body gives certain warning signs before a heart problem, like chest pain or tightness, shortness of breath, and sudden fatigue. Urvashi Rautela's nutritionist reveals actor's diet secrets: ‘Unko breakfast ke bagair chalta nahi bilkul bhi'
Urvashi Rautela's nutritionist, Shweta Shah, recently discussed the Daaku Maharaj actor's diet and eating habits and also revealed some of her favourites. 'Unki diet bohot simple hai. She is a very simple eater. She doesn't eat much. Bohot kam khaati hai woh. But her diet is such that we give her three meals a day. She never skips breakfast. Unko breakfast ke bagair chalta nahi bilkul bhi, toh humein dena hi padta hai,' she said in an episode of The Mumta Podcast. The nutritionist added that Urvashi usually has poha or upma for breakfast. For lunch, 'she likes to stick to roti and sabzi, and she has a favourite juice, without which…' said Shah, adding that Rautela's hot favourite juice is mint and coriander. 'She mostly does not need evening snacks. But an early dinner is what I have always proposed. I'm not saying she does intermittent fasting, but an early dinner between 6 and 7 o'clock. For dinner, sometimes we give her paratha or paneer, rolls or chillas, just simple food,' she continued. Concurring, Dr Meghraj Ingle, director and senior consultant gastroenterology at Gleneagles Hospitals in Mumbai, told that an early dinner can help make the digestion process easier. It can also help prevent bloating and reduce irritation in the stomach lining. He suggested eating light and non-spicy foods, as they help improve blood sugar control, cholesterol levels, and metabolism, potentially aiding in weight loss and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Eating earlier in the evening aligns your eating patterns with your body's natural cycles, which lowers your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and metabolic syndrome. 'Mindful eating allows you to savour your meal, pay attention to your body's hunger cues, and stop eating when you're full, lowering the risk of overeating. A better connection with food is critical for long-term weight management and general well-being,' he added. In a previous interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rautela gave us a quick glimpse into what she eats daily. For breakfast, Rautela shared that she loves to dig into eggs and broccoli or any other green vegetables. For lunch, she likes to keep it simple with South Indian food, or some green vegetables with tofu or paneer. Her dinner is usually the same as that of lunch. Rautela also added that her favourite fruits include grapes and strawberries, in fact, all kinds of berries. Her favourite seafood is lobster, and bhindi ranks number 1 in her list of favourite vegetables. 'I make sure I sleep for 5-6 hours every night,' she said, adding that she downs about 2-3 cups of coffee daily. A sucker for tiramisu and cheesecakes, she finished the interview by mentioning that masala uthappam happens to be her favourite dish of all time.

International Yoga Day 2025: Can this ancient practice really improve your mental well-being? Experts answer
In today's fast-paced world, mental well-being is just as important as our physical health, and yoga can bridge the gap between the two. More than just a fitness trend, doctors and mental health experts now recognise yoga as a powerful tool to help manage anxiety and depression and boost emotional balance. On International Yoga Day 2025, let's understand how yoga helps improve mental health. According to a Harvard Health Publishing report, research using MRI and other brain imaging tools has found that regular yoga practitioners tend to have a thicker cerebral cortex—responsible for processing information—and a larger hippocampus, which plays a key role in learning and memory. Yoga helps to provide a powerful and holistic approach to improving mental health. "It helps to sync the mind and body and regulate the stress response system, lower cortisol levels, and promote the release of mood-enhancing chemicals like serotonin and dopamine," says Dr Santosh Bangar, Senior Consultant Psychiatrist, Gleneagles Hospitals Parel, Mumbai. Yoga for mental health: Does it really work? Regular yoga can help with anxiety, depression, and stress. The mindfulness and breathing techniques taught in yoga help calm the mind and promote a sense of inner peace. Over time, yoga enhances self-awareness and supports better sleep, improves focus, and helps with a balanced mood. "For people dealing with trauma, burnout, or day-to-day emotional fatigue, yoga can be a boon. It can help you relax and rejuvenate," adds Dr. Bangar. Ensure to do it under the guidance of a certified practitioner. Yoga is extremely effective for long-term health and wellness. According to Vidya Jha, yoga guru at Aatma Yog Studio, Karampura, New Delhi, "Yoga helps calm the nervous system through mindful movement and controlled breathing (pranayama), which can lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone)." Alleviates Anxiety and Depression: Regular practice has been shown to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation. It also boosts levels of serotonin and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which are associated with improved mood.
