Trump to host UFC fight at White House
Next year, it could become the political battleground could be transformed into a ring, with the world's top fighters facing off in an Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) championship bout to mark America's 250th birthday.
Mr Trump unveiled the plans at a rally in Iowa on Thursday, telling supporters the event would take place in front of up to 25,000 people.
'We're going to have a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there. Dana is going to do it,' Mr Trump said.
The UFC is yet to officially confirm any details of the event but Mr White, who supported the president during his re-election campaign last November, shared the news on X alongside the caption: 'This will be epic'.
The company's Instagram account also shared a video of Mr Trump's announcement, before asking fans who they would like to see fight at the White House.
Conor McGregor, who is credited with making the UFC a global sport, said he would be 'honoured' to star in the event.
'Count me in!' he posted on X after wishing Americans a happy 4th of July.
McGregor, who met Mr Trump at the White House on St Patrick's Day, has not fought in the UFC since breaking his leg in 2021, but periodically teases his return to the sport.
Colby Covington, a former interim champion, is also a big Trump supporter, and was frequently pictured wearing a Make America Great Again (MAGA) hat during the election.
Covington, who is from Florida, even blamed campaigning for Mr Trump for his loss to Joaquin Buckley in December.
Sean Strickland, a former Middleweight champion from Anaheim, California, is another vocal Trump supporter.
On Thursday, Strickland posted on X in response to a trans swimmer being stripped of their medals in response to a directive from Mr Trump: 'It went from William Thomas to Lia Thomas back to William Thomas...America is finally healing. LFG Trump'.
Neither the White House or the UFC have provided details on where exactly the fight would take place, but there are a few limited options.
One option is the Rose Garden, a smaller, more intimate outdoor space often used for presidential addresses or events. But the administration recently started work on paving over the grass in the Rose Garden, making it less likely.
More likely is a makeshift Octagon on the South Lawn, the largest open area on the White House grounds, covering three acres. It's often used for large events and state ceremonies, meaning it has the capacity to host large crowds.
At the centre of the UFC is White, who rescued the company from bankruptcy in the early 2000s and transformed it into a multi-billion dollar global enterprise.
At the time, Mr Trump was one of the few figures who offered White a platform, allowing events to be hosted at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City when others refused.
The two have been friends and political allies ever since.
White spoke at both the 2016 and 2020 Republican conventions, before appearing alongside Mr Trump's closest friends and family when he retook the White House in November.
Mr Trump is regularly treated as a guest of honour at the UFC, where he walks out alongside White to the roar of thousands of fans.
Over the past decade, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has evolved from a fringe combat league – once denounced by the late Republican senator John McCain as 'human cockfighting' – into one of America's most influential cultural platforms. It is a mixed-martial arts promotion in which a series of fights take place around the world, also known as fight nights. It calls itself the 'premier organisation in Mixed Marshall Arts (MMA)'.
The UFC is broadcast in over 170 countries, and reaches over 900 million households.
Perched behind Mr Trump in the front row you will often see some of his closest political allies including RFK Jr, the health secretary; Kash Patel, the FBI director; and Elon Musk, who until recently was a key figure in the administration and close friend of the president.
Hollywood stars and musicians are also staples at UFC events, including Chris Pratt, Jared Letto, Matt Damon and French footballer Kylian Mbappe.

Democratic lawmakers denied entry to ‘Alligator Alcatraz' immigration jail
A group of Florida lawmakers were denied entry on Thursday into the new Florida-based immigration jail dubbed 'Alligator Alcatraz' one day after the first immigrant detainees began to arrive. Five Democratic lawmakers attempted to enter the facility, which was previously toured on Tuesday by White House officials, but were stopped by law enforcement officers from local agencies, according to the state representative Anna Eskamani in an interview with CNN. 'This is a blatant abuse of power and an attempt to conceal human rights violations from the public eye,' the five said in a joint statement. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that the first detentions at the facility began on Wednesday, but did not respond to questions regarding the number of people detained so far. The controversial Everglades jail was quickly set up in a partnership between the federal and Florida state governments. Sitting approximately 50 miles (80km) west of Miami, the remote facility is managed by the state but in large part funded the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema). 'It might be as good as the real Alcatraz. A little controversial, but I couldn't care less,' Trump said on Tuesday after touring the site. During the tour, Trump joked about immigrants being pursued by snakes and alligators if they attempted to escape. Since Trump took office, Florida has been assisting the administration's goals in rounding up a large number of immigrants to be detained and deported. Through a program called 287(g), local law enforcement agencies partner with DHS and become deputized to carry out immigration enforcement operations. According to the state government, Florida has more 287(g) deputizations than any other state in the US, which has allowed it to engage in widespread operations targeting immigrant communities. 'You'll have a lot of people that will deport on their own because they don't want to end up in an Alligator Alcatraz, or some of these other places,' Florida governor Ron DeSantis said after touring the facility with Trump. 'This is a model, but we need other states to step up.' Being undocumented in the US is not a crime; rather, it is a civil offense. Data analysis by the Guardian shows that there has been a dramatic nationwide increase in the arrest of undocumented immigrants with no criminal record. The White House has pressured immigration officials to arrest 3,000 people per day, with the reported goal of reaching one million a year. Two non-profit groups have sued DHS, claiming the site's buildup is violating environmental policies. DHS said it expects the facility to expand quickly to 5,000 beds.

Tiger Woods and Vanessa Trump ‘are wedding bells serious' as smitten couple's relationship takes major step forward
TIGER WOODS and Vanessa Trump are reportedly almost ready to take the next step in their relationship. It was first revealed in March that the legendary golfer, 49, was dating Trump, 47. 3 3 They had originally hoped to keep the relationship under wraps. Amid rampant speculation, Woods eventually confirmed they were dating weeks later. But now their romance is heating up fast. So fast, that according to Page Six, they may even be considering marriage in the not too distant future. A source told the outlet: "They're very serious. "Wedding bells serious." The source added: "She's so happy! "She's finally found happiness. "She's found happiness for the first time in her life." Two-time PGA Tour winner Brian Henninger exclusively told SunSport how their blossoming romance had surprised him. I played golf with Tiger Woods but he was a ghost behind the scenes - his romance with Vanessa Trump surprised me He said: 'Tiger Woods is not a person you're going to go and hang out with. 'He's not eating with you in the lunchroom. He's pleasant though. He'd say 'Hi Brian'. He knows a little bit about everybody, he does his research. 'I'll never forget the first time I met him. We were at the Western Open, we're in this fitness trailer, they were stretching us or something. 'He goes 'hey, I saw your Trojans got beat by Stanford the other night'. I mean, I've never met him. So I think he's one of those prepared guys in any situation. 'Behind the scenes, he was a ghost to most of us. We didn't really know about his life off the course. We know what the media shared with us, but I didn't really know that lifestyle. 'He was a natural show off. He had so much popularity and it's incredible. 'I didn't get to travel and own mansions, private jets and have Michael Jordan as my best friend…even though I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that stuff. 'But he didn't show signs on the golf course of being affected by any of it. 'Scottie Scheffler is coming along doing similar things. I don't know all the matrix behind it, but they are very close in terms of how many times they've won at a certain age and all the accomplishments. 'They can just turn it on and off. I mean, they get to the golf course and they're like different human beings." 3

Deshaun Watson announces major life update with girlfriend Jilly Anais on social media
Controversial NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson has announced his marriage to longtime girlfriend Jilly Anais on Instagram, with a pair of photos shared through their accounts. The Cleveland Browns star and Anais tied the knot on Thursday, which also marked their sixth anniversary of dating, having started a relationship in 2019. What teammates attended his wedding are unclear, as Watson has had a rocky stay in Cleveland. Watson's $230million guaranteed contract has not paid dividends for the Browns, who have not won a playoff game since before he came to Cleveland. The 29-year-old Watson was seen as a future star in the league several years ago with the Houston Texans, with his career being detailed after being accused of sexual misconduct by more than two dozen women. Those accusers' claims led to Watson being suspended for 11 games during the 2022 NFL season. The brief glimpse into Watson's wedding day however showed him wearing a white dress shirt with gold lettering stitched into his cuff that read '07.03.25'. The lettering matches his glitzy gold watch with Watson also wearing a jewelry-encrusted wedding band. Anais is seen wearing a huge wedding ring, doubled up with her wedding band, as her nails are painted pink and white. Anais dress appears to be the traditional white, while Watson also looks to be in a shade of white, with matching pants and shoes. Other details of the joyous day for Watson and Anais are private as of Friday, with the quarterback having the day away from any drama with the Browns. The team also has veteran Joe Flacco, journeyman backup Kenny Pickett, and rookie's Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. Sanders himself has come under fire, as he is amid a speeding scandal, with two egregious violations behind the wheel. ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi believes that Sanders' roster spot isn't 'guaranteed' and projects he'll have to improve to move up the depth chart. Watson is expected to miss all of the 2025 season with an Achilles injury, which could make a path to a roster spot easier for Sanders, as the team will likely carry three quarterbacks, and possibly one more on its practice squad.
