"Digital Census initiative is a transformational step towards modernising the Census process. For the first time, technology will be used to collect data and send it electronically to the central server. This will result in early availability of Census data," an official told PTI.
Very stringent
data security measures
would be kept in place to ensure data security at the time of collection, transmission and storage.
Reference date for the Census 2027 will be 00:00 hrs of March 1, 2027 and 00:00 hrs of October 1, 2026 for Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir and snowbound non-synchronous areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
It will be the 16th Census since start of the exercise in the country and 8th after Independence, for which a gazette notification was issued on June 16.
The
Registrar General of India
has put in place a three-tier focused and need-based training for each phase - national trainer, master trainer and field trainer.
The field trainers will train around 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors for the massive exercise.
The RGI has told states and Union Territories to make any proposed changes in the boundaries of administrative units before December 31, when they will be considered final for the Census exercise.
In a letter to all states and Union Territories, Registrar General and
Census Commissioner of India
Mritunjay Kumar Narayan had said that for the Census, all villages and towns are divided into uniform enumeration blocks and for each block, an enumerator is assigned to avoid any miss or repetition during the population count.
According to norms, the Census can be conducted only three months after the freezing of boundary limits of administrative units such as districts, sub-districts, tehsils, talukas and police stations.
Narayan had said that from April 1, 2026, the Houselisting Operation, the appointment of supervisors and enumerators and the work division among them will be done, and on February 1, 2027, the Census of the population will begin.

Adityanath holds meeting on UP flood situation, festival related security
Adityanath also issued a directive to use only large boats for rescue operations. Addressing officials via videoconference, the chief minister instructed district magistrates and superintendents of police to accelerate flood relief efforts. He directed that flood shelters must have robust security for women and adequate milk for children, a statement said. Lucknow, Aug 3 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday chaired a meeting to review a wide range of issues, including the state's flood situation, and law and order ahead of upcoming festivals. The CM also reviewed security preparations for the series of upcoming festivals. He announced that women will receive free travel on UP's government buses and city buses for Raksha Bandhan, from the morning of August 8 to midnight on August 10. He also gave instructions for ensuring cleanliness and security at temples for the last Monday of Sawan, as well as for Janmashtami on August 16. The chief minister called for grand celebrations on Independence Day, August 15, and for Tiranga Yatras to be held on August 14, which is observed as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'. Reviewing the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, Adityanath set a target of hoisting 4.60 crore flags across the state this year, and outlined a schedule for flag manufacturing, festivals, and official hoisting from August 13-15. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to addressing issues surrounding drone-related rumours, particularly in western UP. According to DGP Rajeev Krishna, 17 cases have been registered and 29 people arrested under the Drone Policy 2023 for spreading rumours. The chief minister ordered strict action against those who operate drones without permission, including the confiscation of their property. He warned that district officials and station house officers would be held accountable for any untoward incidents resulting from these rumours, and instructed police to increase foot patrols and engage with village security committees to counter misinformation. He also reviewed the Basic Education Department's work in the meeting. PTI CDN SKY SKY This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.

Cow should have been taken to new Parliament building during inauguration: Shankaracharya
The seer said the Sengol held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while entering the new Parliament building showed a cow engraved on the sceptre. 'If a statue of a cow can enter Parliament, why can't a living cow be taken inside?' he asked reporters. Mumbai, Aug 3 (PTI) Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand on Sunday said a cow should have been taken into the new Parliament building at Central Vista during its inauguration. 'A real cow should have also been taken into the building to bestow blessings. If there is a delay, we will take cows from all over the country and bring them to Parliament,' he said, adding this would ensure the PM and the building receive blessings of a real cow. The Sengol is installed in the Lower House of the Parliament. He also demanded that the Maharashtra government immediately frame a protocol on cow felicitation. 'The state has not yet declared how to honour the cow. It should finalise a protocol so that people can follow it, and also fix penalties for its violation,' he said. The Shankaracharya demanded that every assembly constituency in India have a 'Ramadham'- a cow shelter accommodating 100 cows. 'A total of 4,123 Ramadhams will be built across the country. The shelters will focus on daily cow service, protection, and promoting indigenous breeds,' he added. Those following the protocol while caring for cows would be financially rewarded. 'A person taking care of 100 cows will receive Rs 2 lakh per month,' he added. The Hindu pontiff further said the Dharma Sansad has passed a congratulatory resolution in support of Hoshangabad MP Darshan Singh Chowdhary, who has demanded that the cow be declared as Rashtramata (Mother of the Nation). The Shankaracharya said people should support only those candidates who protect cows and work for legislation in their interest. 'The present regime has not yet satisfied us. Cow slaughter must be completely stopped in India,' he added. Addressing the language controversy, he said, 'Hindi was first recognised for administrative use. The Marathi-speaking state was formed in 1960, and Marathi was recognised later. Hindi represents several dialects- the same applies to Marathi, which has borrowed from its own dialects'. The seer said any kind of violence should be treated as a criminal offence. He demanded justice in the Malegaon blast case, stating that the real culprits must be punished. 'It is ridiculous that the government is celebrating Amrit Kaal while cows who provide us with milk are being slaughtered. Those in government cannot be called our brothers unless they stand in support of cows,' he said. PTI ND NSK This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ‘Some don't agree to share power': DK Shivakumar's cryptic remark at Congress event
Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday highlighted the importance of political sacrifice and power-sharing and how leaders nowadays are reluctant to do the same. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with Deputy CM and state Congress President D K Shivakumar(PTI) Though Shivakumar didn't name anyone, his remarks have reignited speculation about a rift with Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah over a rotational chief ministership – a deal the latter firmly denied. Speaking at the AICC-organised event titled 'Constitutional Challenges' in Delhi on Sunday, Shivakumar lauded the Gandhi family's contributions to the party and praised Sonia Gandhi's decision to not assume the post of Prime Minister in 2004. 'When Sonia Gandhi was asked by the President to take oath as the Prime Minister, she said, 'For me, power is not important.' She decided that a Sikh, a minority, and an economist could save the country and should become the Prime Minister,' Shivakumar said, calling it an unparalleled act of political sacrifice. In an apparent dig at leaders unwilling to step aside, he added: 'Has anyone in such a big democracy made such a sacrifice? Does anyone even sacrifice a small position today? Some MLAs and ministers share power, but some of us don't even agree to share power. Even at the panchayat level, many don't.' Earlier last month, chief minister Siddaramaiah had dismissed speculation of a mid-term leadership change, asserting he would complete the full five-year term. 'Am I not sitting here as the Chief Minister? Where is the vacancy?' Siddaramaiah said in New Delhi. 'DK Shivakumar himself has clarified this, and I'm saying the same, there's no vacancy for the CM post,' he had said. His statement was seen as a clear attempt to shut down persistent talk of Shivakumar being elevated to the top post in the latter half of the government's term. 'Congress's history is India's history' In his concluding remarks at the Delhi event, the deputy CM further talked about the grand old party's legacy and the Gandhi family's role in maintaining unity within the organisation. 'Congress's history is the country's history. The Gandhi family has kept the Congress Party united, and the Congress Party has kept the country united,' he said, according to an official party release.
