Mahershala Ali Has A Theory About What Exactly Happened During Jurassic World: Rebirth's Ending
Major spoilers for Jurassic World Rebirth lie ahead, so read on at your own discretion.
Jurassic World Rebirth – the latest installment in the Jurassic Universe – is finally here, and the film introduces audiences to a cast of new characters. As you'd expect, these new protagonists find themselves in some precarious situations involving dinosaurs. There's actually one situation at the end of the film that seemingly marks the demise of one character. However, in a wild twist of fate, that development gets wrapped up on a positive note. Mahershala Ali has since spoken to CinemaBlend about what he thinks happened.
Near the very end of Rebirth, mercenaries Zora Bennett and Duncan Kincaid along with Dr. Henry Loomis and the Delgado family make one final effort to escape the island of Ile Saint-Hubert. They're able to find a boat but are intercepted by the monstrous D. Rex, which Duncan lures away with a flare. Duncan's actions eventually bring him face to face with the massive creature, which looks like it's about to attack him. However, as Zora and co. prepare to sail away, they see a flare and meet up with Duncan, who swims towards them.
Honestly, I don't know about anyone else, but I definitely thought Duncan was done for before that reveal. That upbeat ending came up while CinemaBlend's Hannah Saulic spoke to Mahershala Ali and his cast members, Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. While Bailey and Johansson joked about how Ali's character survived his encounter with the D. Rex, the Oscar winner himself tried to provide a more practical theory:
I think he went… I think he distracted… The flare went out, and I think he went underwater and kind of like, you know, swam away very quickly.

That could've been the case, and it does make a lot more sense than Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey's humorous assertion that the Duncan who swims back to the group is actually a 'clone.' Believe it or not, Mahershala Ali himself also thought Duncan died, as he revealed during the interview. Apparently, Ali didn't discuss the specifics of that with director Gareth Edwards either. I'm not sure if we'll ever receive a concrete answer there, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy to see that Duncan survived.
Duncan Kincaid's characterization does represent one of the best elements of the original Jurassic Park, which writer David Koepp compared to Rebirth in some respects. As much as the movie delivers on dinosaurs and spectacle, it also puts focus on human connections. Duncan is a man who's lost a child, and it's for that reason he's willing to put himself in harm's way to protect the group, especially the Delgado kids.

At this point, it's hard to say if Mahershala Ali will reprise his role in another installment of the Steven Spielberg-produced. However, at the very least, the creative team has the option to do so, given his survival and, given the ending of Rebirth, the future of the Jurassic franchise is wide open.
Jurassic World Rebirth is now playing in theaters amid the 2025 movie schedule, so check your local listings. Also, the previous six films in the series are currently available to stream with a Peacock subscription.

Caterina Murino is pregnant
Caterina Murino is pregnant. The 47-year-old actress - who is best known for her role as Solange in Casino Royale opposite Daniel Craig - is expecting her first child with Edouard Rugaud, her partner of eight years, following an "excruciating" journey with IVF treatment, during which she suffered two miscarriages. Caterina, who will give birth to a baby boy at the end of summer, shortly before turning 48, told France's Gala magazine: 'At my age, I had to ask medicine to help nature. "You don't always decide when the right time to become a mother comes.' Despite her fertility struggles, Caterina has enjoyed a smooth and healthy pregnancy. She said: 'I haven't had any discomfort, no diabetes, no insomnia.' And while she is feeling anxious about her delivery, the Italian star feels confident in "the fantastic work" of her midwife team. Caterina has hailed her pregnancy a "magical moment". She told Italy's Costa Smeralda: 'I feel I am living a magical moment. Soon I will become a mother, and I believe we all have a huge responsibility today: raise conscious human beings.' The Garden of Eden actress has admitted she only understood the "significance" of her breakout role in 2006's Casino Royale much later. She told Costa Smeralda: 'It was a tremendous opportunity, but perhaps I only understood its significance later. 'I was the first Bond girl in the Daniel Craig era, in a film which marked a change of mood in the saga. Today, I look back at it with gratitude and realisation: not so much for the glamour surrounding it, but for the chance it gave me to build an international career.' Caterina received death threats in response to her saucy scene with Daniel in the movie. She said: "When he kissed me in the film… it was so sexy, so real. It must have looked very real, because among the many fan letters I got was a death threat from someone who was jealous."

This Paris Nightclub Has a No Men Policy – and Dinner and Drinks Are Included
I wasn't even the first in line when I arrived as the doors opened at Diva Paris, a pop-up dance club exclusively for women. Showing up on time is typically a very pas Parisien thing to do in the city of fashion(ably late) — as I'm often reminded by my Paris neighbors — and yet the entire line was filled with chic Parisiennes who had shown up exactly at 7 p.m. for the same reason I did: We needed this. We needed a night to ourselves, a break from the grind of work and parenting. We needed to dance without the pressures of coupling or impressing anyone, and we needed to get home by a reasonable hour (re: said grind). Diva promised all of that, and even served us dinner. 'For 45€ [about $53] you get food and an open bar with cocktails like Aperol Spritz or St-Germain, wine, nonalcoholic drinks, and softs,' explains Constance d'Amécourt, the 39-year-old mother of three and co-founder of Diva Paris along with friends Lucie de Gourcuff and Constance Fabry-Damour. 'The purpose of this concept is to leave your mental load in the locker room and spend three hours on the dance floor.' Most women had arrived straight from work, and one mom had even taken a train that day from London to make sure she could be part of what she had heard was the 'best dance party in Paris.' There were women in designer labels and others in Mickey Mouse t-shirts, and in the end, we all hovered together over ornate displays of mini sandwiches, fruit platters, and trays of French desserts. The language barrier disappeared for me as we all swayed around the hazy dance floor and mouthed the words to Celine Dion's 'Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore' — them in French, me in English — while devouring delicate bites of tiny foie gras sandwiches with walnuts and onion chutney or truffle-topped turkey rolls oozing with fresh mayonnaise. The bar was open and the food was courtesy of one of the top caterers in the city. The only men in sight were refilling glasses with white wine and rosé or onstage spinning records (DJ Thierry Khayat). I dabbled in an alcohol-free sparkling wine from French Bloom before moving to a pale pink rosé, letting the bartender drop a few cubes of ice into my glass to turn it into a refreshing, and trés French, Piscine. The bartenders were still whipping out Aperol spritzes made-to-order when Shakira came on and half-full glasses were left on tables unattended as the real dancing started. Diva Paris isn't the first women's-only dance club (the first of its type likely started in London in 2019), and it won't be the last. This highly successful model is working its way through Europe with events throughout Germany, Switzerland, and Austria through Mama Geht Tanzen, and is already spreading to the U.K. and America with clubs like Mums That Rave (from international DJ, producer, and creative Nikki Beatnik) in London and Earlybirds Club in the U.S. There's even a non-publicized members-only women's speakeasy inside Houston's C. Baldwin Hotel and an annual Mom Prom in Portland, Oregon. There's no age range or offspring requirement to attend these pop-up dance parties — despite having been inaccurately referred to as 'mum's clubs' in the past — where the open invitation to dance in a non-threatening environment is enough to attract a very loyal, and very niche, clientele. 'Women are showing up ready to dance but end up leaving with new friends and stronger work connections,' adds d'Amécourt, who also owns the popular children's swimwear brand, Happy Duck. 'The first edition of Diva sold out in five days, with 280 women attending that February, and the edition in March was the same plus 140 women on the waiting list. We had to go to another venue with a bigger space because we had so much interest.' It's through these events that women who haven't seen each other since college can finally reconnect. It's on a man-free dance floor that women who work in different industries can dance side-by-side and network openly between songs. And, maybe, just maybe, it's at 10 p.m. in a nightclub filled with likeminded women where a very non-Parisienne writer can leave feeling fully satisfied and fully refreshed to start a new day in the city she now calls home. Dakota Johnson's Post-Chris Martin Era Is a Fierce Rebellion Against Hollywood's Old Guard
Dakota Johnson is in her full single-gal era, and it's not about revenge, it's about empowerment. The 35-year-old actress enjoyed a Fourth of July yachting vacation frolicking with her BFF, Kate Hudson, in their bikini best. But now, it's time for business. In her post-Chris Martin chapter, Johnson is ready to tackle her biggest project to date and knock down Hollywood's old guard at the same time. More from SheKnows Dakota Johnson Scores a Bikini Bestie for Her Chris Martin Breakup Getaway Johnson is currently attending the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, where she revealed that she's prepping her directorial feature film debut for a top-secret project that's 'very close to her heart.' 'I've always felt that I'm not ready to direct a feature,' she said at a press conference, via Variety. 'I don't have the confidence, but with her, I feel very protective, and I know her very well. I can see this world, so I just won't let anybody else do it. That's the real answer.' After her lackluster promotion of Madame Web (and honestly, she wasn't wrong about how the film turned out), the Materialists star only wants to work on sets that are a 'healthy collaboration.' '…If it's not a good match, then it's not a good match. And we really don't move forward if it's not a good match,' she added. 'I can't waste time on toxic sets anymore, or in situations that are not fun or fulfilling or healthy. That's one of the perks of [producing], because I get to put amazing people together and make something.' Johnson called out Hollywood for being lazy when it came to making good movies in a March 2024 interview with Bustle. 'You cannot make art based on numbers and algorithms,' she pointed out. 'My feeling has been for a long time that audiences are extremely smart, and executives have started to believe that they're not. Audiences will always be able to sniff out b—.' Her next era is all about power and shifting those old norms in Hollywood.
