Bono Bares His Soul for Andrew Dominik in ‘Stories of Surrender' Trailer

Yahoo16-05-2025

It's a beautiful day for U2 fans, as Apple has unveiled the first trailer for 'Bono: Stories of Surrender,' the filmed version of the band's frontman Bono's one-man stage show as directed by Andrew Dominik.
For Dominik, this is the filmmaker's first movie since 2022's 'Blonde,' the critically panned Marilyn Monroe biopic starring Ana de Armas. But the film is also set to premiere as a special screening at Cannes before it debuts on Apple TV+.

The film debuts on the streamer on May 30 and will also be available via the Apple Vision Pro headset and Apple Immersive Video. It is the first feature-length film made available in the 180-degree VR format, featuring both 8K picture and spatial audio.
'Stories of Surrender' is based on Bono's memoir 'Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story,' with which he had an accompanying book tour and theater tour made into a one-man show 'Stories of Surrender: An Evening of Words, Music and Some Mischief…' Or, as he says in the trailer, his 'quarter-man' show, a dig at him saying these are the 'tall tales of a short rock star' (he's 5-foot-6-inches tall).
Shot entirely in black and white, 'Stories of Surrender' details Bono's life's journey, his relationships with his wife, his parents, friends, and his faith, and he discusses some of his more personal stories from being a rock star and an activist. The film was shot from the Beacon Theatre shows (it's not the Sphere, but it'll do) and features Bono performing stripped-down versions of some of his most famous U2 songs like 'Beautiful Day' and 'City of Blinding Lights,' as seen in the trailer.
The film is a production of RadicalMedia and Plan B Entertainment. Jon Kamen and Dave Sirulnick ('Summer of Soul,' 'Hamilton,' 'David Byrne's American Utopia') produce alongside Academy Award-winning Plan B Entertainment's Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner (upcoming 'F1,' 'Moonlight,' '12 Years a Slave'). Bono executive produces with Jennifer Pitcher ('Kiss The Future') and Kelly McNamara ('V-U2 an Immersive Concert Film at Sphere Las Vegas').

The Real Inspiration Behind Lauren Sanchez's Wedding Gown

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Amid the extreme fanfare—and corresponding outrage—surrounding her Italian nuptials to Jeff Bezos, Sanchez has finally revealed her much-anticipated wedding dress. She selected her friends the Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana of Dolce & Gabbana to craft the gown. And instead of pushing boundaries with a modern silhouette, Sanchez wanted timeless glamour. So, she turned to the past. More specifically, the bride reverted back to the '50s for her inspiration. The dress is based on the one Sophia Loren wore to marry Cary Grant in the 1958 film Houseboat. The bodice is quite similar: A white, boned corset with a sweetheart neckline blanketed in lace that extends to a high neck and long sleeves. 180 chiffon-covered buttons trace a line up the middle. The skirt, however, swaps a full '50s silhouette for that of a fluted mermaid. A sweeping tulle-and-lace veil tops it off. The whole thing took over 900 hours to make. It's a departure from the revealing silhouettes Sanchez often favors (she famously exposed a lace bra beneath a plunging white Alexander McQueen blazer to Donald Trump's presidential inauguration) but no less body conscious. She wore a similar silhouette to the amfAR gala in Cannes last month: a white Roberto Cavalli strapless mermaid gown trimmed in ostrich feathers. So far on the bridal circuit, Sanchez has attempted to skew more capital-F fashion. She's worn a one-shoulder vintage 2003 Alexander McQueen dress and Schiaparelli couture, lavishly embroidered with an extremely exaggerated, corseted waist. This morning, she sported a classic white Dior skirt suit with an Hermès silk scarf tied on her head in an homage to Audrey Hepburn. She is rumored to be changing into a sweetheart neck, corseted gown inspired by the 1946 Rita Hayworth film Gilda. Other publications have noted that Sanchez seems to be chasing the fashion crowd with choices like her couture gown from Schiaparelli, a brand that the industry has dubbed elite in its creativity. References have also become a popular red-carpet hack, as editors and watchers alike uncover sartorial easter eggs left by celebrities and their stylists. Sanchez wanted to evoke a moment rather than opting for something simple. But the key to an interesting historical reference is that modern interpretation. For Sanchez, it seems the past curries more favor than the present. When in Venice, it's of course appealing to channel golden-age film stars—La Dolce Vita, and all. Their ensembles exaggerate the wearer's femininity in a manner that parallels Sanchez's style of dress (minus a bit of fabric—it is 2025, after all.) But then, there's a reason the 1950s have become shorthand for regressive gender roles. The gowns in Houseboat and Gilda are beautiful, but both films feature female characters who are criticized for their promiscuity and failed domesticity. In an era where so many things feel like they've moving backwards, it's hard not to read something deeper into this kind of '50s cosplay coming from the newly-minted wife of a billionaire. Matt Reeves Shares Photo of Script for ‘The Batman Part II'

It would seem Matt Reeves has finally delivered a script for 'The Batman Part II,' on time and as promised. The director shared a photo on Friday of himself seated with co-writer Mattson Tomlin (upcoming John Wick spinoff 'Caine') captioned 'Partners in Crime (Fighting),' along with a blurry image of a script with the Bat Signal logo on the cover. More from IndieWire Screen Talk with David Koepp on 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' and How to Build a Blockbuster Why 'M3GAN 2.0' Is More 'Terminator 2' Than 'Child's Play' Partners in Crime (Fighters) ⁦@mattsontomlin⁩ — Matt Reeves (@mattreevesLA) June 27, 2025 A rep for DC Studios did not respond to IndieWire's request for comment. But the timing of the photo matches the planned timeline that DC Studios head James Gunn previously outlined. Gunn said in an interview that fans need to 'get off Matt Reeves' nuts' amid some consistent questions about the status of the Robert Pattinson-led superhero sequel and said Reeves was expected to deliver the script by the end of this month. If all is good to go, the movie could begin shooting in London by January, as IndieWire previously reported. The movie is expected to hit theaters in 2027. Gunn had also defended Reeves and suggested that these things just take time. 'Well, I don't think Matt really pays attention to that stuff so much,' Gunn said. 'He's got a lot of other things happening, so I don't think he lets it affect him. He's fine. But I am irritated by people. I mean, it's just that thing people don't need to be entitled about. It's going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. And Matt's not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.' So there you have it. We have a script. 'The Batman Part II' had been delayed several times amid the regime change at DC Studios, and fans no doubt had questions and concerns after the success of spinoff 'The Penguin,' after seeing the fate of 'Batgirl,' or in knowing that 'The Batman' and its sequel would not be considered canon in the new DCU but would be part of the 'Elseworlds' banner. But fans can presumably put those fears to rest now. For some fanboys looking for some clues, Tomlin recently retweeted a page from the comic 'Batman: The Imposter #1,' in which Batman sheds a tear after realizing that Gotham for the first time in 54 years experienced a night completely without violent crime. 'The Batman Part II' is understandably a priority, though. The first film, which starred Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, made $772 million worldwide at the box office. The film also starred Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, John Turturro, Andy Serkis, Peter Sarsgaard, and Barry Keoghan in a cameo role as a prisoner who appeared to be the Joker. How to Watch ‘F1,' the Brad Pitt Racing Movie Everyone's Talking About

Brad Pitt returns to the big screen in F1: The Movie, a high-energy racing drama bringing Formula 1 to the masses in the form of a summer blockbuster. Directed by Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, the film debuted internationally on June 25 and is now playing in the U.S. as of today. Set in the world of elite motorsports, F1 follows veteran driver Sonny Hayes (Pitt) as he comes out of retirement to join the fictional APXGP team at the behest of its owner (played by Javier Bardem), his longtime friend. But it's no easy transition, as he clashes with the team's hot new rookie, Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). Kerry Condon and Kim Bodnia round out the cast. In a unique move for a Hollywood film, Pitt and Idris performed their own driving on real circuits, filmed during actual Grand Prix weekends. To achieve a realistic effect, Kosinski and his team used miniature IMAX-certified cameras mounted directly onto the race cars. Pitt described filming as 'one of the most extraordinary' experiences of his career, adding in an F1 interview, 'It's really fun, it's exciting, it's adventurous, and you feel it. I do. I hope others do too.' Kosinski set out to make, as he told GQ, 'the most authentic, realistic, and grounded racing movie ever made.' Here's how to watch it. For now, F1: The Movie is only available in theaters. While Apple has not announced an official streaming release date, the film is expected to arrive on Apple TV+, based on previous Apple releases like Napoleon and Killers of the Flower Moon. Before then, a digital purchase or rental option is expected. Until then, the only way to experience F1—and Pitt hitting speeds just shy of 200 MPH—is on the big screen. Get Tickets
