Madden NFL 26 Top-10 TEs: will Steelers' Jonnu Smith or Pat Freiermuth make the list?

USA Todaya day ago
EA just revealed the top-10 player ratings at each position for Madden NFL 26 — and although the Steelers acquired one of the league's best pass-catching tight ends this offseason, neither Pro Bowler Jonnu Smith nor Pat Freiermuth made the cut.
Here are the newly released Madden NFL 26 player ratings for the top-10 tight ends — with Smith's projected 80 overall rating just five points short of the group.
An argument can be made that Smith, who's coming off the best year of his career, deserves a spot among Madden's top tight ends — but clearly, both he and Freiermuth still have doubters to silence this season.
Many expect Smith to play a versatile and pivotal role for the Steelers this upcoming season — potentially enough to raise his Madden rating and break into the top mark.

Auburn's Alex McPherson named to Lou Groza Award watch list

Alex McPherson is receiving national attention ahead of his "comeback" season. Preseason award watch season is upon us, and one Auburn Tiger is on the radar. Alex McPherson is set to return to the field full-time after an illness sidelined him for most of the 2024 season. He has caught the attention of the Palm Beach Sports Commission as he is one of 30 kickers included on the Lou Groza Award watch list that was released Friday afternoon. McPherson was 49-of-49 on extra points and was 19-of-20 on field goals with a long of 53 yards as a freshman and sophomore during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In one game last season, he connected on all three extra point attempts while going 1-for-2 on field goals in Auburn's win at Kentucky in October. He has worked to regain strength and is poised to make a strong comeback in 2025. 'It gives me some confidence that my body can hold up, that I can trust it and not have to worry about it every step of the way like I had to last year,' McPherson said in an interview with Jeff Shearer of 'I think this is definitely one of the strongest groups in the country. We have three really strong kickers, we've got three strong punters. This group is definitely special and it's going to be something to look out for this year.' USC's Caden Chittenden, Georgia's Payton Woodring, and UAB's Jonah Delange join McPherson on the Groza watch list this season. The winner will be announced on Dec. 8. Chiefs Fans Call Out Madden For 'Disrespecting' Patrick Mahomes

Chiefs Fans Call Out Madden For 'Disrespecting' Patrick Mahomes originally appeared on The Spun. EA Sports sent the football world into a frenzy this week, releasing its quarterback ratings for "Madden NFL 26." Let's just say people didn't like where Patrick Mahomes ranked among his peers. Historically speaking, EA Sports doesn't really throw a lot of members into the 99 overall club. That being said, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have both received that honor for "Madden NFL 26." We can't say the same for Mahomes. Forget about Mahomes being ranked below Allen and Jackson, he wasn't even the third highest-rated quarterback. That title went to Joe Burrow, who threw for 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns last season. Mahomes is currently ranked fourth with a 95 rating. That's still a respectable rating, but Kansas City Chiefs fans view it as a sign of disrespect. Over the past few days, Kansas City's fan base has ripped EA Sports to shreds on social media. "Patrick Mahomes should always be a 99 on Madden," one person said. "Period." "All he does is help his team get to the AFC Championship every year and 5 times to the sb. What could be better than that," a Chiefs fan wrote on X. "Everybody keeps disrespecting Pat," a third fan commented. "Cheated. This is so wrong," another Chiefs fan said. "Mahomes a 95 is a joke," a social media user wrote. If Chiefs fans want to spin this rating into a positive, they could thank EA Sports for giving Mahomes bulletin-board material. However, he doesn't really need added motivation. He's already out to avenge his loss in Super Bowl LIX. "When you lose a Super Bowl, I think there's sometimes in those workouts, you may be a little tired, you have that extra added motivation to finish even harder, finish even stronger," Mahomes told reporters, via USA Today. "I think it'll be good for us at the end of the day. I mean, obviously looking back, you want to win the game. But a lot these guys hadn't lost one (Super Bowl), hadn't ended the season on a loss that are on this team now. So, I'm sure they'll be motivated to go back out there and try to find a way to get to the Super Bowl and win it this year." We'll see if Mahomes silences his doubters this Fans Call Out Madden For 'Disrespecting' Patrick Mahomes first appeared on The Spun on Aug 1, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 1, 2025, where it first appeared.
