CM Stalin hails Uddhav Thackeray's stand on federalism, extends birthday wishes
In a message posted on social media, CM Stalin praised Thackeray for his efforts in defending the federal structure of the country and standing up for the rights of regional languages.
He described Thackeray's advocacy as a source of inspiration for the Marathi people in preserving their language and identity.
"Birthday greetings to ShivSena-UBT President, Thiru. Uddhav Thackeray. Your bold resistance to Hindi imposition and your firm stand to uphold Maharashtra's identity have united the Marathi people in standing up for their language. Wishing you strength as you continue to defend federalism and linguistic dignity," CM Stalin posted on social media platform X , tagging both @ShivSenaUBT_ and @OfficeofUT.
The birthday wish also underlined the broader message of unity among regional parties and leaders who oppose the centralisation of power and the perceived imposition of Hindi over native languages.
Chief Minister Stalin, who has consistently championed the two-language policy in Tamil Nadu, has previously voiced strong opposition to the three-language formula proposed under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which includes the promotion of Hindi in non-Hindi speaking states.
Thackeray, known for his vocal stand on protecting Maharashtra's Marathi identity, has aligned with similar federal voices in Indian politics that push back against what they describe as a homogenisation of linguistic and cultural identities.
The public exchange of support between CM Stalin and Thackeray signals continued cooperation among regional parties committed to federalism, state rights, and linguistic pluralism - issues that are expected to remain politically significant in the run-up to the 2026 state elections and beyond.

National conference ‘Bhasyotsava' to begin on August 3 at National Sanskrit University
National Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.S.R. Krishnamurthy on Saturday announced that the three-day national conference 'Bhasyotsava' will be held at the campus in Tirupati from Sunday (August 3, 2025). The conference will discuss the inauguration of Akshara Purushottama Mandir in the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha tradition (modeled after the temple constructed in Abu Dhabi). Chandigarh: The leader of opposition (LoP) in Punjab assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Saturday said the recent decision of the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab govt to stagger the acquisition process under its land pooling policy clearly signalled a retreat from its original stance. Bajwa claimed that at least for now, the AAP govt was planning to stagger the acquisition process under its land pooling policy, confining it to areas surrounding major cities, such as Ludhiana, Patiala, and Mohali. This shift clearly demonstrates a significant reversal in the govt's approach to the policy, he said. "The govt has faced fierce opposition from farmers and the opposition parties, including the Punjab Congress, since Day 1. The entry of the AAP leaders was banned in some villages. The farmers recently took out a successful tractor march against the policy. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the BJP and accused the party of having a double standard over protecting regional identity, saying that the BJP in Gujarat calls for protecting the state's language and culture, but anyone who does the same in Maharashtra is defamed. While addressing a gathering in Maharashtra's Raigad, the MNS chief claimed that Biharis were expelled from Gujarat twice, but these very people who led these anti-Bihari protests and drove them out of Gujarat were later accepted into the BJP party and made MLAs. He further said those who advocate for Marathi and culture are unfairly criticised for harassing outsiders, while a double standard exists elsewhere. 'We are accused of harassing outsiders by raising the issue of Hindi-Marathi, but Biharis were driven out of Gujarat twice. The people who protested against Biharis there, beat them, and drove them out of the state were taken into the BJP party and made MLAs. Following opposition, including from Raj and Uddhav Thackeray, the Maharashtra government withdrew the resolutions. Later on July 5, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS head Raj Thackeray shared a stage in Mumbai for the cause of the Marathi language, and vowed to oppose the 'imposition" of Hindi in Maharashtra after the state government rolled back the GRs. It escalated after incidents involving verbal and physical assaults, vandalism, and public intimidation by the MNS workers have been reported from various parts of the state, drawing widespread criticism and legal scrutiny. In multiple videos that have gone viral on social media, MNS workers were seen confronting shopkeepers, auto drivers, and even bank employees for not speaking Marathi. In one incident in Mumbai, a medical shop employee was beaten and forced to apologise publicly for allegedly posting a WhatsApp status deemed disrespectful to the Marathi language.
