Israel kills eight-month-pregnant woman in occupied West Bank raid
The troops opened fire on a Palestinian family at the camp, killing Sondos Jamal Muhammad Shalabi and critically injuring her husband, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement on Sunday.
The ministry said medical teams were unable to save the 23-year-old woman's fetus, because the Israeli military prevented them from transferring the injured couple to a hospital.
Palestine's Wafa news agency said the Israeli army raided the camp in occupied West Bank's Tulkarem region early on Sunday and deployed heavy machinery and bulldozers, raiding dozens of homes as reconnaissance planes flew at low altitudes.
Local sources told Al Jazeera Arabic they also heard sounds of heavy gunfire and huge explosions.
Earlier, the Palestine Red Crescent Society also said Israeli soldiers prevented its medical teams from entering the camp, despite reports of casualties.
Israel, which claimed its operation targeted what it called 'disruptive activities' in the camp, has imposed a curfew in the area.
The raid on Nur Shams camp came as Israeli forces continue their weeks-long military operation in the north of the occupied West Bank, targeting Jenin, camps in Tulkarem and Far'a in Tubas governorate.
The assaults have displaced more than 26,000 Palestinians from their homes in Jenin and Tulkarem in the past few weeks.
Since a ceasefire in Gaza was announced last month, Israel has increased the frequency and intensity of its attacks across the occupied West Bank.
Wafa reported that more Israeli military reinforcements have been deployed towards Far'a camp from the Hamra checkpoint, as Israeli forces continue to destroy infrastructure and private property in the area.
Raids on citizens' homes and field interrogations have also been ongoing, a day after Israeli soldiers forcibly displaced dozens of families, with some of them now sheltering in schools. At least eight Palestinians were arrested in Far'a.
Reporting from Amman, Jordan, Al Jazeera's Nour Odeh said Israel's conduct in Gaza is now being repeated in the occupied West Bank.
'The stated aim of this [Israeli] military assault [in the occupied West Bank]… comes under the banner or the pretext of fighting so-called terrorism,' she said.
'But the agenda of this [Israeli] coalition government included, long before October 7, 2023, the annexation of the occupied West Bank,' Odeh added.
'And so, in order to do that, [Israeli] ministers have openly and repeatedly said they must first shatter the idea that Palestinian freedom is possible, cleanse the area from as many Palestinians as possible and encourage their voluntary migration.'

Figures from Gaza's Health Ministry, controlled by the Islamist group Hamas, do not distinguish between civilians and fighters and cannot be independently verified, however international organizations such as the UN consider them to be largely credible. Around 50 people were killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip on Sunday alone, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported, citing medical sources. Ten people were killed in the bombing of a family home in Nuseirat, central Gaza, WAFA reported, without providing further details on the identities of the victims. When asked, the Israeli military said it would investigate the report. The al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza reported an Israeli airstrike on a water distribution site in Nuseirat in the morning, killing eight people, including six minors. At least 16 people were injured in the attack, according to the hospital. WAFA, citing the hospital, reported at least 10 killed in the strike. The Israeli military said upon request it had been targeting a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization in central Gaza, but that a technical error had led to its munition falling 'dozens of meters from the target.' Family of American citizen killed by Israeli settlers demands US probe
Agencies Washington The family of Sayfollah Musallet, a 20-year-old United States citizen from Florida who was beaten to death by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, is calling on Washington to launch its own probe into the incident and to hold the perpetrators accountable, Al Jazeera reported Musallet's family said in a statement that Israeli settlers surrounded him for three hours during the assault on Friday and attacked medics who were attempting to reach him. The slain young man, known as Saif, was a 'kind, hard-working, and deeply-respected young man, working to build his dreams', the family said. 'This is an unimaginable nightmare and injustice that no family should ever have to face,' the statement added. 'We demand the US State Department lead an immediate investigation and hold the Israeli settlers who killed Saif accountable for their crimes. We demand justice.' Washington has previously resisted calls to investigate the killing of US citizens by Israeli forces. Instead, US officials say that Israel is capable of probing its own abuses. But Israeli investigations rarely lead to criminal charges against settlers or soldiers, despite their well-documented violations against Palestinians. The State Department said late on Friday that it 'has no higher priority than the safety and security of US citizens overseas'. 'We are aware of reports of the death of a US citizen in the West Bank. Children collecting water among 59 Gazans killed by Israel
Agencies Israeli air raids across the Gaza Strip have killed more than 59 Palestinians, at least 10 of them near a water distribution point, including six children, according to Palestinian Civil Defence. Mahmoud Basal, civil defence spokesman, told the AFP news agency there were multiple Israeli strikes on Gaza City overnight and early morning on Sunday, resulting in eight deaths, 'including women and children', with additional injuries reported. An Israeli attack on a home near the Nuseirat refugee camp in the south of Gaza City caused '10 martyrs and several injured', he said. An Israeli drone attack in central Gaza 'hit a potable water distribution point in an area for displaced people', killing eight Palestinians, including six children, with several others wounded. Additionally, three people died when Israeli jets struck a tent housing displaced Palestinians in the southern coastal area of al-Mawasi, according to Basal. On Saturday, Israeli forces killed at least 110 Palestinians across Gaza, including 34 people waiting for food at the controversial GHF distribution site in Rafah. At least 67 children have died of hunger in Gaza since October 2023, Gaza's Government Media Office said on Saturday. Furthermore, UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, warned of a sharp rise in malnutrition cases as Israel's blockade of the coastal enclave entered its 103rd day. In a statement, the agency said one of its clinics in Gaza has seen an increase in the number of malnutrition cases since March when the Israeli siege started. 'UNRWA hasn't been allowed to bring in any humanitarian aid since,' it said. The warnings came as Israeli forces continued to target starving Palestinians. In the northern Gaza Strip, six Palestinians were killed and others injured when an Israeli warplane bombed a house in the Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City. Five others were killed and several more injured in a separate air strike that hit a house on Hamid Street in western Gaza City.
