Egyptian startups secure $228mln in funding in 5 months

Arab Finance: Egypt's startup ecosystem has seen significant growth in attracting venture capital and debt financing, with investments reaching $228 million from January to May 2025, according to the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship.
This represents a 130% increase over the same period in 2024.
The group reported 16 deals executed during the first five months of the year, 11 of which involved investments totaling $156 million.
Additionally, two startups, Nawy and MNT-Halan, secured substantial debt financing, receiving $23 million and $49 million, respectively.
In addition to funding, Egypt's startup sector has seen notable exit and acquisition activity, including Dubizzle's acquisition of the online car trading platform Hatla2ee and MaxAB-Wasoko's acquisition of Fatora.
The proptech sector led in terms of investment volume, contributing to 33% of total funding, while the fintech sector dominated in deal volume with five transactions, accounting for 32% of the total investment.

Arab Finance: The General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) recorded total revenues amounting to EGP 11.425 billion during fiscal year (FY) 2024/2025, announced Waleid Gamal El-Dien, the authority's Chairman. During his meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Gamal El-Dien highlighted that the SCZone generated a surplus of EGP 8.487 billion in the past FY. The authority's promotional efforts contributed to actual contracts for industrial, service, and logistics projects at a value of $7.09 billion for 286 projects. This is in addition to 11 seaport projects valued at $1.5 billion, bringing the total value to $8.6 billion over 297 projects. Gamal El-Dien also addressed the latest developments of various projects implemented in the Ain Sokhna and Qantara West Economic Zones. The SCZone has succeeded in attracting international companies to establish their projects in the Sokhna Industrial Zone in sectors such as new energy, electronics, pharmaceuticals, auto components and spare parts, and metal components. In the Qantara West Industrial Zone, a total of 31 projects have been implemented on an area of 2 million square meters, with a total investment cost of $799 million, providing 45,000 job opportunities. Moreover, the chairman outlined plans in Ismailia East (Technology Valley) to attract high-tech investments in fields like semiconductors, electronics, solar cells, and silica-based industries. In this regard, the SCZone signed $43 million deals for foreign investments in silica and modern construction materials. Egypt: EGX nods to listing $1.6mln capital hike for Spinalex

Arab Finance: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Listing Committee approved the listing of Alexandria Spinning and Weaving Company's (Spinalex) capital increase of EGP 80.160 million, as per a disclosure. The company's issued and paid-up capital will rise from EGP 641.282 million to EGP 721.442 million through the distribution of nearly 40.080 million bonus shares at a nominal value of EGP 2 per share. Shareholders will receive 0.1250000027 bonus shares for every ordinary share held prior to the increase, financed from the dividends recorded in the financial statements as of June 30th, 2024. Eligibility for the bonus shares distribution applies to shareholders holding the stock until the closing of the trading session dated July 30th. Egypt: Credit Agricole's H1 2025 consolidated profits drop 99.9% YoY

Arab Finance: Credit Agricole Egypt (CIEB) recorded a 99.92% year-on-year (YoY) plunge in consolidated net profits after tax and minority interest in the first half (H1) of 2025 to EGP 3.554 billion from EGP 4.213 billion, the bank stated. Net interest income hit EGP 5.450 billion during the January-June period of 2025, up from EGP 5.393 billion in the same period a year ago. The bank's standalone net profits after tax dropped to EGP 3.533 billion in H1 2025, compared to EGP 4.198 billion in H1 2024. Meanwhile, standalone net interest income hiked to EGP 5.433 billion from EGP 5.376 billion.
