Replica of Sikkims Time Capsule 2025-75 installed at MG Marg in Gangtok
The installation offers the public a unique glimpse into the historic initiative ahead of the official burial of the original time capsule next month.
The replica symbolically represents contents of the actual time capsule, which is slated to be sealed and preserved for the next 50 years, the officials said.
It will be reopened in 2075 when Sikkim celebrates its centenary as a full-fledged state of India.
The time capsule will serve as a cultural and historical bridge for future generations.
The display is also embedded with a QR code that provides detailed information about the real capsule, its purpose, significance, and the artefacts or messages it will contain, they said.
The initiative is part of the broader Sikkim@50 celebrations marking five decades of the state's progressive journey since attaining statehood in 1975.
The Department of Information & Public Relations has urged the public to visit the replica, scan the QR code, and be part of this forward-looking milestone in the state's history. PTI KDK NN

Ex-BKTC chairman meets CM Dhami seeking conservation of Tungnath temple
Dehradun, Jul 28 (PTI) Former chairman of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee Ajendra Ajay on Monday requested Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to take necessary steps for the conservation of the Tungnath temple. Standing at a height of 12,073 feet above the sea level at a picturesque location in Rudraprayag district, the centuries-old Tungnath temple is the third among the Panch Kedar group of temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The former BKTC chairman who met the chief minister at the secretariat also handed him a letter stating in detail why it was necessary to take steps for the conservation of the temple. Over the last few years, micro-subsidence in the area has adversely affected the structure of the main temple, he said. Cracks have developed between the stones part of the temple structure through which water leaks into the sanctum sanctorum during the rainy season, he said. It is believed that the Pandavas built the temple to please Lord Shiva as he was unhappy with them due to the Mahabharata war. In view of the historicity of the temple and its mythological links, a detailed study of the temple complex was done by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) during his tenure as the BKTC chairman, Ajay said. These institutions as well as the state government had endorsed the idea of the temple's conservation, he said. As the temple committee chairman he had also prepared a comprehensive action plan for the renovation, repair work and beautification of the Tungnath temple and the temple complex. However, his tenure came to an end before actual work could be started on it, he said. Tungnath temple is important not only historically but also mythologically and is also a symbol of India's glorious heritage, he said. Crowds witnessed at Nashik temples on first Monday of Shravan
Nashik, Jul 28 (PTI) Devotees thronged temples in Nashik to mark the first Monday of the Hindu month of Shravan. The temples that saw heavy crowds included Kapaleshwar temple in Panchavati, Someshwar temple at Gangapur road and the one at Trimbakeshwar, with devotees offering 'bel' leaves and flowers and also taking holy dips in Ramkund, Godavari and Teerthraj Kushavarta, officials said. Devotees were also seen in large numbers at temples in Baneshwar, Naroshankar, Ardhanarinateswhar, Sarveshwar Mahadev, Mankameshwar Mahadev, Nashik Road, Cidco, Indiranagar, Satpur and Ambad. A sizable number of police personnel were deployed across the city to manage the crowds, they added. At Trimbakeshwar, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) deployed extra buses due to the crowds, the officials said. Over 87,000 allocations made in DUs 2nd round of UG admissions
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) The Delhi University (DU) released the second list of allocations for its undergraduate admissions on Monday, with a total of 87,335 students allotted seats across colleges and programmes under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG) 2025. According to the university, the fresh round saw 24,843 new allocations, while 27,314 students were upgraded to higher preferences, reflecting significant internal reshuffling after the first round. Additionally, 17,922 candidates chose to freeze their previously-allotted seats. The changes came after 43,741 students opted for upgrades following the first list, which saw 93,166 seat offers made for the 71,624 available UG seats across 69 colleges and 79 programmes. Of these, 62,565 candidates confirmed their admissions. DU officials said the second list accommodates not just fresh preferences but also takes into account newly-vacated seats, giving thousands of aspirants another opportunity to secure their preferred colleges or programmes. The upgrade and reordering window for the second round was open till 4:59 pm on July 25. The admissions are being conducted based on the CUET-UG scores, along with factors like category reservations, programme choices and eligibility. Seats have been allotted across various categories, including Unreserved, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, PwBD, Kashmiri Migrants, Sikh Minority, Single Girl Child and Orphan. Meanwhile, the DU said the allocation for performance-based courses, such as Hindustani Music, Karnataka Music, Percussion Music, Physical Education and Fine Arts, will take place in the third round. Students applying to these programmes are advised to monitor the college websites for the trial and evaluation schedules. The academic session for first-year students is set to begin from August 1.
