Shihab: Dialogue Is Fundamental Principle Instituted by Islam

Mohamed Mandour
Dr. Muhammed Quraish Shihab, member of the Muslim Council of Elders and former Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, affirmed that dialogue is a fundamental principle instituted by Islam for the welfare of humanity. Allah Almighty calls upon us to cooperate, and true cooperation can only be achieved through mutual understanding.
As the Almighty says: 'O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another' (The Quran, 49:13) One of the most important means of achieving this mutual understanding is through dialogue.
Moreover, difference and diversity are part of the divine order, as Allah also states: 'And if your Lord had willed, He could have made mankind one community; but they will not cease to differ — Except whom your Lord has given mercy, and for that He created them.' (The Quran, 11:118–119 )
Speaking in the seventh episode of the Ramadan program 'One Ummah', which is broadcast across the Muslim Council of Elders' social media platforms throughout the holy month, His Eminence explained that the diversity willed by Allah is a diversity of variety—not of contradiction.
Therefore, dialogue is a key Islamic teaching; it is the effort to understand others and to explain our own perspective without imposing our views on anyone.
Dr. Quraish Shihab further emphasized that difference can be a source of mercy and a means of broadening the horizons of the Ummah. In fact, some differences among us may stem from a shared pursuit of truth—such as the differences that exist among scholars on various legal and jurisprudential matters.
Accordingly, we must learn to benefit from our diversity and embrace it as a source of strength, not division or conflict.
Throughout the month of Ramadan, the Muslim Council of Elders is broadcasting five special programs across its social media platforms as part of its media strategy to promote and reinforce the values of dialogue, peace, tolerance, and coexistence. These programs are: 'Al-Imam Al-Tayeb', 'One Ummah', 'Humanitarian Values with the Elders', 'The Month of Harmonious Coexistence', and 'Our Ethics'.

League Council Condemns Genocide in Gaza by Israeli Forces

H-Tayea The Arab League Council, at the level of permanent representatives, held an emergency session at its Cairo headquarters, chaired by Jordan, to address the worsening humanitarian and military crisis in Gaza. The meeting was convened in response to the intensifying Israeli military operations and the continued blockade imposed on the Palestinian population in the besieged enclave. In a strongly worded statement, the Council condemned what it described as Israel's systematic policies of starvation, collective killing, and deprivation, aimed at turning Gaza into an empty land free of Palestinians. These actions, the Council affirmed, constitute a full-fledged genocide under international law. The Council called for an urgent and wide-ranging Arab and international political and diplomatic response to exert pressure on Israel to halt its aggression, lift the blockade, and allow unimpeded humanitarian and medical aid into Gaza. The statement emphasized the need to hold Israeli officials accountable for crimes committed against Palestinian civilians, including through legal mechanisms such as the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. According to the Council, the continued denial of food, water, medicine, electricity, and clean water to over two million Palestinians in Gaza is a war crime and a crime against humanity. It condemned the reduction of humanitarian aid under political or legal justifications as immoral and illegal under international humanitarian law. The Council also welcomed the statement issued by 28 European Union countries on July 21, which clearly condemned Israeli practices, called for the protection of civilians, and denounced the ongoing crimes. It described the EU statement as a positive step toward building international pressure for accountability. The Arab League urged continued efforts at the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly to initiate political and legal proceedings against the occupation, including the referral of Israeli crimes to the ICC and obtaining a legal opinion from the International Court of Justice regarding the legality of the blockade and collective punishment imposed on Gaza. The Council concluded its statement with a warning: the silence of the international community in the face of these atrocities only emboldens the perpetrators and reinforces a culture of impunity. It called for a unified Arab stance to mobilize international opinion, demand an end to the aggression, and relieve the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

OIC Warns of Israeli Occupation's Plans to Impose Control over Ibrahimi Mosque

Mohamed Mandour The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, delivered a speech at the opening session of the open-ended emergency meeting of the OIC Executive Committee at the level of Permanent Representatives regarding the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and the targeting of holy sites in the occupied Palestinian territory, particularly the Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Khalil. The meeting was held at the OIC General Secretariat headquarters on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. The Secretary-General stated that this meeting was held to discuss a new Israeli attack on the Islamic identity of Palestinian cities, represented by the withdrawal of administrative and historical powers over the Ibrahimi Mosque from the Palestinian side. This attack represents one episode in a series of Israeli aggressions against the Ibrahimi Mosque since the occupation of the city on June 8, 1967. Taha affirmed that the OIC rejects and warns against the danger of the Israeli occupation's plans aimed at imposing full control over the Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Khalil, Judaizing it, and altering its identity and historical landmarks. He added that the OIC also condemns the blatant attacks on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the bombing of churches and mosques in Gaza City in flagrant violation of human values and international conventions. He noted that all these measures aimed at Judaizing the city of Al-Quds and isolating it from its Palestinian surroundings are illegitimate and invalid under international law and United Nations resolutions. In his address before the permanent representatives of the OIC Member States, the Secretary-General emphasized that the continuation of this unprecedented humanitarian crisis constitutes a war crime, a stain on the entire humanity, and a violation of the principles of justice and human dignity. He called for the need to multiply international efforts to pressure the Israeli occupation in order to achieve a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire, open all crossings, allow the entry of humanitarian aid, and ensure a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. He also emphasized the need to enable the Palestinian government to assume its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip and begin the reconstruction process. This emergency meeting of the OIC's Executive Committee, at the level of permanent representatives, is being held amid the unprecedented worsening of the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip as a result of the ongoing crimes of genocide, starvation, and forced displacement perpetrated by the Israeli occupation and the escalation of Israeli attacks on both Islamic and Christian places of worship. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks
