24-Year-Old Bengaluru Techie Buys Rs 1.9 Crore Flat, Internet Asks For Tips

Last Updated: A 24-year-old Bengaluru techie shared on Reddit that he bought a 2BHK flat after spotting it on Instagram. A 24-year-old software engineer from Bengaluru has gone viral on Reddit after sharing that he bought a 2BHK flat. In his post, he said it has been two months since he started paying his home loan. Surprisingly, the flat, which his father found on Instagram, cost Rs 1.9 crore. The young engineer explained that he paid 35 per cent of the cost in cash, while the remaining 65 per cent was financed through a home loan. He also mentioned that his parents helped a little with the initial payment, but now he is fully responsible for the rest and the monthly EMIs. 'My dad found this on Instagram. Brokers and real estate agencies have moved onto Instagram as well. There are quite a few good listings out there," he said in the comment section. The Redditor also shared two pictures—one of a bedroom in the high-rise and another showing a screenshot of his loan account, with a sanctioned loan amount of over Rs 1.22 crore. Check the post here: Posted on July 13, the story got over 4,300 upvotes and many comments. It quickly went viral, sparking a lot of reactions from Reddit users. Many people congratulated him for buying a home at 24. Some praised his money management, while others were curious about his loan and EMI details. However, a few users raised concerns about taking on such a large loan at a young age. 'I used to pay a lot as rent, from an investment perspective, buying a flat made more sense. The location is near a tech park, so even if I don't live there, I could rent it out and cover half of the EMI through that easily," the young engineer replied to a user asking why he bought a home at 24. A person commented, 'Bhai, it is so beautiful. So good! I'd definitely wanna live in a house like that. Looks so cosy as well. Congratulations, OP!" Another added, 'Congratulations, Bro, it looks so beautiful at just 24, you bought your own home, that too in Bangalore. Something you should be proud of." 'EMI, huh? Everyone seems to advise against it. People say you become a slave to banks if you buy stuff on EMI," a user said. The post also led to a bigger discussion about rising housing costs and the difficulty of owning a home in cities like Bengaluru. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
