Horror at sea as police investigate sexual assault onboard Carnival cruise ship

Federal authorities have launched an investigation into allegations of sexual assault onboard a Carnival cruise ship just days after a man died on a separate Carnival ship. The Carnival Breeze ship departed from Galveston, Texas, for a five-day cruise to Cozumel and Progreso on Monday afternoon. It remains unclear when the alleged incident took place. The Federal Bureau of Investigation told Daily Mail in a statement: ' FBI Houston is aware of allegations of sexual assault that occurred on the Carnival Breeze cruise ship which docked in Galveston on 07/28/2025. 'As is customary with crimes aboard a cruise ship, an FBI Maritime Liaison Agent, based out of the Texas City Resident Agency, is coordinating with the US Coast Guard (USCG), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the cruise line regarding this incident. 'Also keeping in line with case reviews or open investigations, the FBI will not be providing additional details or updates regarding these matters.' Carnival Cruise Lines said in a statement to KHOU 11: 'Matters of potential criminal conduct, should they occur, are turned over to local law enforcement for their review. We will defer to the appropriate agency for further comment.' The Daily Mail has contacted Carnival Cruise Lines for comment. The investigation into the incident comes just days after a separate investigation was launched into the death of a holidaymaker on the Carnival Dream on July 23. The Dream was out at sea around the Western Caribbean after leaving from Galveston, Texas, when passengers were awoken from their sleep to alarms blaring at around 3am. One anonymous passenger told the outlet that she had heard an announcement calling for medical assistance on the Serenity Deck of the ship. The Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office identified the deceased passenger to KHOU 11 as Euvelester Villarreal Jr., 48, of Rio Grande City, Texas. Passengers had also told the outlet that they saw federal agents board the ship while disembarking on Saturday. Speculation about what unfolded onboard has also started circulating online, with one woman claiming the man was attacked. Amanda Meadows shared a video to her Facebook saying she was onboard the ship at the time, and woke up to the alarms and decided to investigate. She said she had tried to go to an upper deck to vape but was told she couldn't by staff. Meadows claims she then mentioned going to the casino, but again staff said she couldn't go there either, and told her to return to her room. Meadows said she returned to her room and after leaving some time later, she claims a staff member approached her and told her somebody had been attacked. She added: 'They said someone was attacked on the ship and they lost their life because they won in the gambling place.' A statement from Carnival on the death investigation said: 'There is no investigation about a suspicious death on Carnival Dream and it's disappointing to learn that any guests might be spreading rumors about something they know nothing about.' After the FBI said they were probing the death, the operator said: 'It is standard practice for the FBI to review deaths that occur on cruise ships. 'This routine protocol ensures transparency. It does not automatically imply suspicious circumstances, and the facts of this matter do not suggest any such activity. 'We extend our heartfelt sympathy to our guest's family and loved ones in this difficult time.' A spokesperson for the FBI Houston office said: 'I can confirm FBI Houston is aware of an incident that occurred around July 23, 2025 on the Carnival Dream cruise ship. 'An FBI maritime liaison agent, based out of the Texas City resident agency, is coordinating with the U.S. Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, and the cruise line regarding this incident.

Matthew McConaughey's acting role which helped apprehend sadistic murderer and sex offender resurfaces

Matthew McConaughey 's acting debut clinched the capture of a fugitive murderer who had been on the run for 14 years. Now one of Hollywood's biggest A-listers at 53, McConaughey was aged just 23 when he portrayed 1978 murder victim Larry Dickens, 26, in Unsolved Mysteries season five episode, Texas Most Wanted, which aired in December 1992. The future Oscar-winner's portrayal of young father and Marine Dickens' coldblooded shooting by sadistic sex offender Edward Harold Bell moved so many viewers that Bell was apprehended just days after the episode aired. In the resurfaced clip, a shirtless McConaughey was seen mowing a lawn before his panicked mother, played by Hell or High Water star Margaret Bowman, called the police about a sinister man outside his home who was exposing himself to children. McConaughey showed off his dramatic acting chops as he confronted the pervert (played by Denver Mattson) took his car keys and lambasted him - before a gun was pulled on him. He was seen being shot in front of his horrified mother - before staggering back into his garage with his attacker in pursuit. He was then shot again - with McConaughey's eyes rolling back as he fell to the ground in the arms - with his horrified mother trying in vain to save his life. In 2023 documentary Unsolved Mysteries: Behind the Legacy, a producer praised the actor's scenes They said: 'Matthew McConaughey had to do a fairly robust death scene. He was working in his garage and he was shot by a man who pulled up with a shotgun. Let's just say… his acting has come a long way since then.' Bell was caught by police in Pasadena, Texas shortly after the shooting - but while on $125,000 bail, he absconded. When he did not show up for his trial, he was designated as a wanted fugitive. Bell fled to Mexico and Central America on a boat, using his dead cousin's identity. He was named Texas' most wanted fugitive in in 1985. After McConaughey's Unsolved Mysteries episode aired, a man recognized Bell from a recent meeting in Panama City. He was finally arrested on February 14, 1993 after a joint operation conducted by the FBI and the Panamanian National Police. In the resurfaced clip, a shirtless McConaughey was seen mowing a lawn before his panicked mother, played by Hell or High Water star Margaret Bowman, called the police about a sinister man outside his home who was exposing himself to children. The future Oscar-winner's portrayal of Dickens' shooting by sadistic sex offender Edward Harold Bell moved so many viewers that Bell was apprehended just days after the episode aired. Bell's attorney's bizarrely claimed the killing was done in self-defense but Bell was convicted and sentenced to 70 years in prison. Bell later claimed he had 'quit being a flasher' in Panama and said he regretted not doing so before killing Dickens. McConaughey has spoken proudly of his turn on Unsolved Mysteries and how his appearance led to the capture of Bell 'just 11 days later.' Bell is also considered a suspect in the murders of a series of young women near Galveston, Texas in the 1970s. In 1998 he claimed in letters to prosecutors in Galveston and Harris counties that he had killed seven teenage girls between 1971 and 1977. He was also suspected in four rape murders by Panamanian authorities. His allegations have never been proven and he was only convicted in Dickens' murder. McConaughey's performance was also praised by Dickens' family. Dickens' niece commented on the resurfaced clip: 'Matthew McConaughey first acting job was portraying my uncle. This was actually filmed at my grandmother's former home where it happened. She's been gone but it is nice to see her face and hear her voice despite the tearful reminder of this crime. 'The man evaded police for over 20 yrs and thanks to Unsolved Mysteries, they found and extradited him back to the states. ' In the early 1990s, McConaughey began working in television commercials and in 1992, he was cast as the boyfriend in the music video for Walkaway Joe, a song by Trisha Yearwood featuring Don Henley. He made his first big screen appearance in 1993 movie Dazed and Confused. McConaughey's first lead role was in the 1996 film adaptation of the John Grisham novel A Time to Kill, and he's since gone on to win an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and various other accolades throughout his career.

Doctor decapitated in freak elevator accident... as colleague watched in horror

A doctor was killed after an elevator in his hospital malfunctioned and severed his head, it has been revealed. Dr Hitoshi Nikaidoh, 35, stepped into a second-floor elevator at St Joseph Medical Center in Houston, Texas, when the doors suddenly closed and pinned his shoulder and head in the doorway. The elevator then ascended, and he was decapitated. A colleague was already inside the elevator and remained trapped with part of Dr Nikaidoh's body for 20 minutes before firefighters freed her. She was treated for shock in the hospital's emergency room, according to hospital spokesperson India Chumney Hancock. The elevator bank was immediately taken out of service, with employees saying a maintenance crew had worked on the mechanics during that week. An investigation later revealed that wires had not been attached correctly causing the elevator's sensors to fail, leading it to go up with Dr Nikaidoh trapped in the doors. Dr Nikaidoh had just graduated from the University of Texas-Houston Medical School and was training to become an obstetrician-gynecologist. From a family of physicians, he was also a devout Christian and his father said he aspired to become a missionary doctor. The accident took place in August 2003, but has resurfaced online in recent weeks after details of the accident were recirculated. Dr Nikaidoh was reported to have run to catch the elevator and the colleague inside had pressed a button to hold the doors open. The pair had been planning to travel up to the sixth floor of the hospital. Elevator 14 in the hospital was the elevator involved in the accident, with firefighters having to remove the door to free the trapped individual. An investigation later found that the accident was caused by a single wire in the elevator. If the elevator had been correctly configured, a second wire wouldn't have been mistakenly attached to the controller, which caused the safety sensors to fail. This would have enabled the car's sensors to function correctly and would have ensured the doors would have released the trapped victim, the Mirror reported. An inspection by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation revealed 22 code violations with the elevator. It was also found to be a month overdue for its annual inspection. In a tribute to Dr Nikaidoh, colleagues wrote: 'As a surgeon-to-be, he tutored fellow lower-level medical students on not only how to master the challenges of gross anatomy but also how to develop the skillful art of dissection and respect for the human body. 'As a physician, he taught patients not only to hope when all hope is lost, but also to have faith through which peace can be found. 'Toshi's dedication to academics and education, his compassion for the sick and less fortunate, and his tireless devotion to his faith, family, and friends have all continued to touch and change lives of all who knew him, and even of all who only knew of him.' Elevators are equipped with numerous safety mechanisms and sensors to avoid serious or fatal accidents and to stop them from moving while someone is pinned in their doors. But data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests that the cars are involved in about 30 fatalities every year and seriously injure about 17,000 people annually in the US alone. About 18billion elevator trips are taken in the US every year, with the average person taking about four trips per day. In a more recent case from August 2019, a tech executive was crushed by a malfunctioning elevator in New York City. Sam Waisbren, 30, was trying to exit the elevator and enter the lobby of the Manhattan Promenade Tower when the car suddenly fell and trapped him between the wall and the elevator shaft. His cause of death was listed as 'mechanical asphyxia', or when someone is left unable to breathe by mechanics, with the accident occurring in the building at East 25th Street and Third Avenue.
