PH downgrades alert level in Israel to Level 2

Filipino Times01-07-2025
The Philippine government has downgraded the alert level status in Israel from Level 3 or voluntary repatriation to Level 2 or restriction phase, following a recommendation from the Philippine Embassy in Israel issued on June 24.
In a statement released on Tuesday, July 1, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) cited 'positive developments in the security situation' as the reason behind the move.
Under Alert Level 2, essential travel to Israel is now allowed, including official government visits and business delegations. Additionally, Filipino workers currently in the Philippines on vacation may return to Israel provided they hold valid Overseas Employment Certificates (OECs) and re-entry visas.
However, the DFA emphasized that non-essential travel remains prohibited, particularly for pilgrims, tourists, and newly-hired overseas Filipino workers.
'The Department will closely monitor the situation in the region and will update the Alert Levels as necessary,' the DFA added.
This downgrade marks a significant easing of restrictions, which had been in place amid heightened tensions in the region in previous months.

Jisoo's nephew to study in the Philippines

The nephew of K-pop star Jisoo is set to study in the Philippines, according to a social media post by the Blackpink member's older sister, Ji Yoon. Ji Yoon recently shared a photo on Instagram showing her son, Minsung, at the airport before his flight to the Philippines. The post was captioned, 'Have a good [time studying] in the Philippines, Minsung,' accompanied by a plane, Philippine flag, and heart emojis. She also posted a photo of Minsung hugging his father prior to departure. Ji Yoon is a former flight attendant who is now working as a lifestyle influencer and freelance model. She stepped away from aviation after having two children. Jisoo, a member of the globally popular girl group Blackpink, has visited the Philippines multiple times. The tour coincided with the release of her debut solo EP Amortage, which includes tracks like 'Earthquake,' 'Your Love,' 'Tears,' and 'Hugs & Kisses.' Before the fan meet, Jisoo was also seen filming scenes for her upcoming K-drama Boyfriend on Demand in Cebu, alongside co-stars Seo In-Guk and Chae Soo-Bin.

PH, Croatia forge stronger labor ties with pilot hiring program for Filipino hotel workers

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has taken a major step in strengthening labor relations with Croatia by finalizing a government-to-government agreement that will deploy Filipino hotel workers to the European nation. DMW Undersecretary Felicitas Bay and Croatian Employment Service Director General Ante Loncar formalized the deal through a virtual ceremony on Thursday, witnessed by Philippine Ambassador to Austria Evangelina Lourdes Bernas and Croatian Labor and Employment Director Luka Čirko. Described as a pilot initiative, the agreement lays the groundwork for a streamlined, ethical, and secure hiring process in Croatia's hospitality industry, while ensuring robust protection mechanisms for Filipino workers. 'This milestone marks a significant step toward facilitating safe, ethical, and government-to-government job opportunities for Filipinos in Croatia's hospitality sector,' Bay said The initiative reinforces the broader cooperation under the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) in the Field of Labor Market, signed by both countries in October 2024 and ratified by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier this year. Pre-departure preparation for workers will be conducted by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the DMW's Pre-Employment and Government Placement Bureau, ensuring that hotel workers are fully briefed and equipped for employment abroad. The DMW emphasized that this partnership not only opens new doors for overseas employment but also reflects the Philippine government's commitment to ethical labor mobility and stronger international partnerships.

8 Filipino Seafarers Attacked in Red Sea Return Safely Home, Gov't Extends Full Support

Eight Filipino seafarers from the MV Eternity C, who were caught in two Houthi rebel attacks in the Red Sea earlier this month, have arrived safely in the Philippines. They landed at NAIA Terminal 1 in Pasay City on July 16, 2025, via flight SV870. Their homecoming was facilitated through the coordinated efforts of various Philippine agencies, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive. The seafarers had been working on a Greek-managed cargo vessel when it was attacked on July 7 and 8. Support teams from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah ensured their safety and immediate assistance prior to repatriation. The returning seafarers will receive financial aid, medical care, and reintegration support from the DMW's AKSYON Fund, OWWA, DSWD, DOH, DOTr, and TESDA to help them transition back to life with their families.
