Varonis Introduces Next-Gen Database Activity Monitoring

Varonis Systems has announced the release of Varonis Next-Gen Database Activity Monitoring (DAM), a groundbreaking new approach to database security that deploys quickly and overcomes the challenges legacy vendors face in preventing data breaches and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Databases are the backbone of the global economy and serve as the central nervous system of AI, yet they've never been harder to protect. Lack of competition and complex barriers to entry have stifled innovation in the DAM market—until now.
'Legacy DAM solutions like Imperva and IBM Guardium use outdated, agent-based technology that takes years to deploy and require hardware and multiple FTEs to operate,' said Varonis VP of Product Strategy and former Imperva CTO Terry Ray. 'Even when deployed successfully, legacy DAM rarely provides more than a compliance checkbox. Varonis offers customers a modern alternative that is fast, cloud-based, and delivers security outcomes far beyond what legacy DAM offers.'
Next-Gen DAM is part of the flagship Varonis Data Security Platform and includes: Activity monitoring. Capture every database query, in the cloud or on-premises, with a complete audit trail of who accessed which data, when, and how.

A Unified Data Security Platform
The AI era demands a new and novel approach to data security. The days of fragmented data security products are ending. Varonis protects data wherever it lives, at rest or in motion, from a single unified platform—enabling organizations to continuously reduce their sensitive data exposure and respond to threats automatically.
Varonis' Next-Gen DAM capabilities are now available natively in the Varonis Data Security Platform, with support for major databases such as Databricks, Microsoft SQL Server, Amazon RDS, Postgres, Oracle, Snowflake, and countless others.

Varonis and Microsoft Join Forces to Secure AI

Varonis Systems has announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft to help secure the next generation of workplace AI. The companies will build upon existing product innovations that help organizations securely adopt Microsoft Copilot. The partnership will also deepen the integration between the Varonis Data Security Platform and Microsoft's security portfolio — including Microsoft Purview — to deliver automated protection for sensitive data across the Microsoft ecosystem and beyond. The agreement lays out an engineering-led plan to solve one of the foundational challenges of the AI era — preventing AI tools, agents, and LLMs from accessing unauthorized data. 'Varonis built a world-class SaaS architecture on Microsoft Azure that protects the world's data and accelerates secure AI adoption,' said Yaki Faitelson, CEO and Co-Founder of Varonis. 'We are excited to expand our partnership with Microsoft, combining their innovation in AI with Varonis' deep expertise in data security.' 'Varonis' SaaS platform integrates the most advanced capabilities in Microsoft Azure,' said Nick Parker, President of Industry and Partnerships at Microsoft. 'Through our collaboration with Varonis, we are empowering customers to embrace AI securely and confidently with enterprise-wide data security and governance powered by Microsoft Purview and Varonis.' As part of the collaboration, Varonis' integration with Microsoft Purview aims to deliver unified data classification, permissions enforcement, and policy management — not only for Microsoft 365 and Azure, but also across leading SaaS and multi-cloud platforms like Salesforce, Databricks, and ServiceNow. This integration will help customers proactively reduce risk and simplify compliance — especially as AI and agent-based applications expand across the enterprise.

Varonis Enhances Data Security Platform

Varonis Systems has announced Varonis Identity Protection, the latest enhancement to its Data Security Platform that gives organizations unified visibility and control of data and identities. Most identity security tools operate in a vacuum — with no understanding of the critical data each identity can access or how they're accessing it. Varonis connects the dots between identities and data, helping organizations automatically reduce access to their most sensitive data, fix identity posture issues, and stop identity-based threats — including those originating from insiders, stolen credentials, and AI tools and agents. Unlike traditional identity products, Varonis understands the blast radius of every identity — showing how much data would be exposed if an identity were compromised. Varonis Identity Protection distinguishes between human and non-human identities, classifies them as internal, guest, external, or privileged, and monitors how they interact with data to detect anomalies. 'Identity and data are deeply intertwined — securing one without the other leaves dangerous gaps,' said Varonis CEO, President, and Co-Founder Yaki Faitelson. 'By unifying identity and data security, Varonis gives customers the context they need to better ensure identity threats don't become data breaches.' Key Capabilities of Varonis Identity Protection: Machine Learning-Based Identity Classification: Varonis integrates with Entra ID, Okta, Active Directory, and others to map user accounts across environments. Using machine learning, Varonis auto-classifies identities — tagging executives, privileged users, service accounts, non-human identities, and more. Peer Analysis & User Behavior Analysis: Varonis continuously analyzes peer behavior to detect anomalies in identity usage, flagging deviations from normal patterns to surface risky activity earlier. Identity Threat Detection & Response (ITDR): Varonis monitors identity providers for signs of compromise, alerting on suspicious logins, password resets, MFA changes, and policy updates — in context with each account's data access activity. Identity Posture Management With Automated Remediation: Varonis flags stale contractor accounts, excessive permissions, and missing MFA — then automatically remediates risks by revoking access, removing entitlements, and eliminating ghost accounts. Varonis was recently named a Leader in Identity Threat Detection and Response by GigaOm, recognizing the platform's advanced detection and automated response capabilities. These identity capabilities also enhance Varonis Managed Data Detection and Response (MDDR), enabling our expert analysts to detect and respond to a broader range of threats faster and more effectively across customer environments.
