An IPS officer of the Odisha cadre has allegedly instructed police personnel to "break legs" of some Congress workers and assured them of "rewards" for their action, prompting the opposition party in the state to condemn such a remark.
The controversy erupted after a purported video, in which Bhubaneswar Additional Police Commissioner Narasingha Bhol was seen instructing police personnel to "break their legs and take reward from me" during a Congress workers' protest, went viral.

The Congress activists were holding a demonstration before the Chief Minister's residence, alleging that there were lapses in crowd management, which led to the stampede incident.
In the viral video, Mr. Bhol was seen instructing the police personnel guarding barbed fencing near the CM's residence not to allow anyone to breach the barricade.

IS THIS DEMOCRACY?@IYCOdisha went to gherao the CM's residence, demanding accountability for the chaos and mismanagement during the recent Puri Rath Yatra incident. Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das said, 'This is highly condemnable. This shows the BJP government's attitude towards protesters. They (BJP) are criticising the emergency even after 50 years, but now a senior officer is instructing police personnel to break the legs of protesters. Is this a democracy?'
Mr. Das also accused Mr. Bhol of instigating Congress activists earlier during a rally in Bhubaneswar.
As his remarks stirred controversy, Mr. Bhol said that he urged the police personnel to perform their duties properly.

"I was briefing the personnel to take action against protesters if they take the law into their hands, and resort to violence and unlawful activities," Mr. Bhol said.

Toll rate hike a blow to daily commuters, says Cong

AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala, on Tuesday, alleged that the Narendra Modi-led government had given yet another blow to daily commuters and working-class citizens by increasing toll rates on the Hosur Road corridor, connecting Bengaluru and Tamil Nadu. He said as per the new rates, the toll for cars at the Electronics City Flyover has increased from ₹60 to ₹65 (8.33% hike), while at the Attibele toll plaza, the rate has gone from ₹35 to ₹40 (14.29% increase). Additionally, the monthly pass for cars at Electronics City has been raised from ₹1,795 to ₹1,885, and at Attibele, from ₹1,080 to ₹1,130 — a steep hike of ₹90 and ₹50 respectively, the Congress leader said. He pointed out that BELT (Bangalore Elevated Tollway Limited), a private company operating under a concession agreement with NHAI, has once again hiked toll rates on Bengaluru's elevated expressway, proving that in Karnataka, even public roads are at the mercy of private profit. 'While the BJP-led Centre watches silently, the burden keeps falling on the backs of ordinary commuters. This is not infrastructure development, it's organised, authorised extortion,' he alleged. He accused the Modi-led Central government of favouring private toll operators at the cost of ordinary citizens and demanded an immediate rollback. He also urged immediate rollback of the ₹50 LPG cylinder hike and ₹2/litre fuel excise hike. 'If Karnataka's BJP-JD(S) MPs and MLAs can't raise their voice against Delhi's loot, they should raise their hands and resign,' Mr Surjewala said.

Congress govt. won't compromise on water rights of Telangana, asserts CM Revanth Reddy

HYDERABAD The Congress government would not compromise on the interests and rights of Telangana in the matter of river waters and they would wage a political, technical and legal battle towards that end, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said here on Tuesday. Speaking at a meeting of the party legislators, members of Parliament, Chairpersons of the Corporations and Commissions and Advisors as also the functionaries of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) organised to give a powerpoint presentation on the Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project (PBLP) being taken up by Andhra Pradesh, he along with Minister for Irrigation N. Uttam Kumar Reddy asked them to counter the misinformation campaign being run by the Opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The Chief Minister noted that it was former K. Chandrasekhar Rao and T. Harish Rao who were at the helm of the irrigation portfolio, but they had harmed the State's interests in the matter of Krishna waters first and later Godavari waters. At the first Apex Council meeting held in September 2016, the then Chief Minister (KCR) and Minister for Irrigation (Harish Rao) had agreed for only 299 tmc ft water share in Krishna against 512 tmc ft to A.P. and their decision had proved to be the death knell for Telangana. Despite having much higher catchment area, the previous government had agreed for only 32% water of 811 tmc ft assured water allocated to combined A.P. Besides, the BRS government had not completed any of the pending projects during its 10-year rule and as if it was not enough in a meeting with his A.P. counterpart then Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao had offered to give away Godavari water, stating that thousands of tmc ft was flowing waste into sea every year. However, the BRS leaders were shedding crocodile tears now after doing everything against the interests of Telangana and blaming the Congress government of inaction. The Chief Minister blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) too for not making even a small effort to protect the water rights of Telangana. On the PBLP, the Chief Minister said the A.P.'s proposal was not outrightly rejected but was told to get clearances first before seeking for its appraisal and added that there was a need to wage a relentless fight to protect the rights of Telangana in the matter of river waters. Meanwhile, Mr. Uttam Reddy said it was due to efforts of the Congress government that the expert appraisal committee of the MoEF had returned the A.P.'s proposal.
