Belagavi: Due to incessant rainfall in the catchment area of the Krishna River, many low-lying bridges were inundated, disturbing traffic movement.
The breathtaking view of the Gokak Falls, known as the 'Niagara' of India, is attracting tourists to enjoy the scenic view.
Apart from this, due to heavy rain, trees and electricity poles fell in Belagavi and the surrounding areas, and the forest department and Hescom personnel are engaged in resolving the problems.
The heavy rains pouring in Belagavi district and the Maharashtra border areas for the past four days increased the flow of water in the rivers.
There was a huge increase in the inflow of seven rivers, including Krishna and its tributaries Malaprabha, Ghataprabha, Vedaganga, and Dudhganga. Three bridges on the lower reaches of the Dudhganga River in Chikodi taluk were submerged on Monday evening. The bridges of Bhoj-Shivpurwadi, Karadaga-Bhoj, Barwad-Kunnur, and Akkol-Sidnal on the Dudhganga River were submerged, cutting off connectivity between villages.

Farmer swept away, 256 rescued, 27 roads shut as Gadchiroli fights floods
Nagpur: Heavy rains in Gadchiroli over the last three days has led to severe flooding, submerging several villages, leaving hundreds stranded, and severing vital transport links. A 46-year-old farmer, Raju Vishwanath Tumram from Khurja Deshpur in Armori taluka, was swept away in a swollen nullah on Tuesday. Overflowing rivers and nullahs like Pal Nadi and Gadhavi Nadi blocked 27 roads, including National Highway 353C (Gadchiroli-Armori-Chamorshi) and State Highway 377 (Kurkheda-Vairagad). The India Meteorological Department has issued heavy rainfall alert for the next 24 hours, raising fears about worsening flood situation. The district administration led by collector Avishyant Panda is mobilising all resources as rivers like Wainganga and Godavari breached danger levels, isolating entire communities. Over 250 people, including 33 pregnant women who were close to their delivery date, have been rescued from raging floodwaters. In Desaiganj taluka, 16 residents from Sawangi and 35 from Virshi Tukum villages were evacuated to the zilla parishad school and Shiv Mandir, respectively. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo In Gadchiroli taluka, 132 workers from Kotgal barrage found safety in private shelters. In Armori's Thanegaon, 73 passengers from two stranded buses were rescued and sheltered at the gram panchayat. Submerged bridges and waterlogged stretches have cut off dozens of villages in talukas like Armori, Kurkheda, Desaiganj, and Chamorshi, from the district headquarters. The administration has implemented robust mitigation measures like barricading flooded roads, equipping shelter homes with rations and medicines, with priority given to vulnerable groups like pregnant women. Due to heavy discharge from Gosikhurd dam and Chichdoh barrage — 5.29 lakh cusecs and 6.33 lakh cusecs respectively — residents near riverbanks have been warned to stay alert and avoid taking selfies near floodwaters. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are deployed for rescue operations, and heavy machinery is clearing blocked routes. The administration's swift action, combined with community resilience, is mitigating the impact of the deluge.
