PFF picks this starter as Rams' make-or-break player in 2025
The Los Angeles Rams made a lot of preparations this offseason to build on the success of 2024 and create a championship-caliber team in 2025.
Matthew Stafford is back, the offensive line is mostly the same and the team even added Davante Adams to replace Cooper Kupp. While the defense remains a work in progress, this Rams squad has the makings of another team who can compete in the playoffs.
A lot of the Rams' success hinges on Stafford's ability to stay healthy and upright, though. That's why Pro Football Focus's Dalton Wasserman wrote that starting left tackle Alaric Jackson is the Rams' top make-or-break player heading into the season.
"No current starting quarterback needs proficient pass protection as much as Matthew Stafford," Wasserman wrote. "That's a huge reason why the Rams re-signed left tackle Alaric Jackson to a three-year contract worth roughly $19 million per year. Unfortunately, Jackson is now dealing with a blood clot issue that puts his status in doubt, at least for the beginning of the 2025 season. The Rams ranked 30th in the NFL in PFF pass-blocking grade last season, and Jackson is arguably the most important part of a turnaround in the department."
General manager Les Snead wouldn't have re-signed Jackson if he didn't think he was an important piece of the Rams' 2025 puzzle. The former undrafted free agent has shone in recent years and is coming off a solid season despite missing the first two games with a PED suspension.
The blood clot issue isn't good, as a similar ailment cost Jackson the final nine games of the 2022 season. The Rams signed veteran D.J. Humphries to step up in case Jackson needs to miss time. Jackson's deal is big, but it's effectively just a two-year deal, which gives the Rams some flexibility if Jackson's health goes south.
The Rams have to hope it doesn't come to that.

NFL Star Makes Shocking Statement on Philadelphia Eagles Fans
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Following his first NFL season, Los Angeles Rams defensive end Jared Verse came away with an unexpected take. The young pass rusher believes the Philadelphia Eagles has the best fans that don't root for the Rams. Quite the change of tune for the 24-year-old out of Florida State. "I got to give them that," Verse said on 'Whistle.' "I like when you kind of get into it. You're aggressive, you're loud, and all of that stuff. They stand by that, no doubt." Ahead of an Eagles-Rams clash in the 2025 NFC Divisional Round, Verse wasn't as complimentary to Philly fans. In fact, he claimed to have a hatred for them. "I hate Eagles fans," Verse stated. "They're so annoying. I hate Eagles fans." Despite not playing in front of Eagles fans outside of Los Angeles yet at the time, perhaps Verse got an idea of what they were like back when he lived in Pennsylvania during his earlier years. Running back Saquon Barkley #26 of the Philadelphia Eagles and linebacker Jared Verse #8 of the Los Angeles Rams interact after an NFL football game, at SoFi Stadium on November 24, 2024 in Inglewood, California. MoreHe gave the Eagles and their fan base perfect bulletin board material ahead of an intense playoff matchup at Lincoln Financial Field. What started out as a cold, windy game turned into a snow bowl. The Rams put up a good fight, but the Eagles found the edge and knocked the Rams out of the postseason en route to their Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs a few weeks later. Although Verse's words back in January displayed a dislike for Eagles fans, it seems his feelings have turned into respect for the screaming fans in South Philly. When he was asked about the toughest fan base to face, in his opinion, Verse fired off the Eagles once again. Read More: NFL Writer Highlights Concerning Theories For Eagles' Saquon Barkley "Probably the Eagles! Playing the Eagles is like playing your rival in college," said Verse. "You never know what they are going to say, and they're going to try to like say disrespectful stuff. They are going to bring some stuff on you. They're not going to say something where you crossed the line, but they are going to say some stuff where you're like, 'Who are you talking to?'" With the Eagles defeating the Rams twice last season, and going on to win it all, Philly fans have likely let go of their mini-rivalry with Verse, especially now since he's been showing a lot of respect for their approach to spectating the game. Verse, the Defensive Rookie of the Year, will pay another trip to Philadelphia next season. After the Eagles visited the Rams in 2024, the schedule-makers will have the Rams and the Eagles battle it out at Lincoln Financial Field for a Divisional Round rematch. 70 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.70?
Who is the G.O.A.T. at No. 70? The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 72 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 70 No. 70 currently belongs to offensive lineman Juice Scurggs, who could be fighting for a roster spot after two underwhelming seasons. Scurggs, whom the Texans traded up for in 2023 out of Penn State, was expected the long-term starting center after an All-Big Ten season. So far, he's struggled to maintain consistency at both center and right guard. Entering training camp, former New England Patriots lineman Jake Andrew is seeing the most action at center, while fellow third-year lineman Jarrett Patterson is seeing reps with the 2s. At right guard, Tytus Howard has shifted into the starting role next to former second-round pick Blake Fisher. At left guard, former first-round pick Laken Tomlinson seems settled into the starting role. This isn't to say Scurggs won't see action or be on the chopping block, but everything is on the table after two underwhelming campaigns to start his Texans' tenure. Scuggs will need a stellar fall camp to prove he's worthy of starting action in a pivotal year for the franchise and his tenure here. Best Player: Fred Weary Weary didn't excel on the offensive line, but he was a stable backup for seven seasons. A member of the inaugural draft class, Weary started 43 games over his time with the Texans. He was limited in 2004 and 2005 due to injury, but he returned to start under new coach Gary Kubiak in 2006 and 2007. There's nothing special to write about regarding Weary's tenure in Houston, but he was part of the initial draft class that debuted in 2002. He's also the longest-tenured player with the number, so that counts for something, right?
