Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Tuesday's: Forbes NYT 'Connections' Hints For Tuesday, July 8: Today's Clues And Answers By Kris Holt
It's Wednesday, and you know what that means: it's time for another game of Connections !
Wednesdays used to be quite different for me. When I was at university in my hometown, classes would end early on that day, I believe at 11. The idea behind this was to give students more time to study or take part in social activities.
I did neither.
Instead, I walked for about seven minutes from the campus to the downtown bingo hall to meet my grandmother. For the low price of two British pounds, I had a few games of bingo, a cup of tea, a bacon roll and some quality time with my beloved gran. After the lunchtime bingo session was over, we'd walk back to her flat and we'd spend some more time together. It was a nice time in my life, and I cherish those memories.
I do the same thing now whenever I'm back visiting family and friends, as I go to bingo with my mother and aunt. The occasional win is the least important part.
Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections , the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us.
Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don't look at the comments or Twitter much. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes .
Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Wednesday, July 9 are coming right up. How To Play Connections
Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT's website or Games app.
You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.
There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.
Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap.
If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.
If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections , so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.
Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find our hints Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query. What Are Today's Connections Hints?

This is your final warning!
Today's Connections answers are... 🟨 Yellow group — lowest part (BASE, BOTTOM, FOOT, FOUNDATION)
🟩 Green group — kinds of socks (ANKLE, COMPRESSION, CREW, DRESS)
🟦 Blue group — things you do at someone's front door (BUZZ, KNOCK, RING, SHOUT)
🟪 Purple group — ending in synonyms for "clip" (COMPARE, CONNECTICUT, PARSNIP, WALLOP)
RING and BUZZ locked together in my brain before anything else. As I looked around the grid, SHOUT and KNOCK were the only two "call to attention" words. So, that took care of the blues.
ANKLE and COMPRESSION seemed like socks to me. I vaguely remembered that CREW socks are a thing, and of course DRESS socks are handy too. Greens done.
At that point, the yellows seemed pretty clear, so as is my habit, I submitted the purples first. I suspected there was some kind of wordplay going on there, but I couldn't quite figure it out. After I submitted the group, it all made sense (at least within the tortured logic of this game). I slid through the yellows for the win.
That's another perfect game in this ridiculous streak, which has now extended to 134 wins (I haven't felt in too much peril lately, so I think we're due for another very difficult game). Here's my grid for today:
🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟪🟪🟪🟪
🟨🟨🟨🟨
That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Thursday's game if you need them.
P.S. I was saddened by the death of Michael Madsen last week. Such a talented actor, and he always brought something a bit interesting and unexpected to his roles. Perhaps his most famous moment was in Reservoir Dogs, in a scene that will live long in the memory. The song that plays during that sequence is the fantastic "Stuck In The Middle With You" by Steelers Wheel. What a great song:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
Please follow my blog for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot! Taylor Swift to 'take the high road' over Denise Welch jibes

Taylor Swift plans to 'take the high road' after being slammed by ex-boyfriend Matt Healy's mother Denise Welch. The 35-year-old superstar and the 36-year-old 1975 frontman briefly dated following her split from actor Joe Alwyn, in April 2023 and Taylor went on to reference their relationship in her album The Tortured Poets Department. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Matt's mother Denise insisted it was unfair that Matt couldn't talk about the relationship. She said: 'Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad I lost. 'Not that I have anything against [Taylor] at all! It was just – it was tricky. 'Listen, you're not allowed to say anything, and then she [Taylor] writes a whole album about it.' However, Taylor – who has been happily dating NFL star Travis Kelce for the past few years - plans to ignore Denise's jibes. A source told 'It's a bit obnoxious in Taylor's eyes, but she has to take the high road. 'If there was anything that would be in a future song of Taylor's – if she were ever to respond – she would respond that way. But as of right now, she might just let it slide. She is not going to let Denise ruin her day. 'Taylor respected Denise and will continue to do so, as this will go away very quickly. 'But if Denise continues to talk about it and bash Taylor, then Taylor would say something. The ball is still in Denise's court to see if she wants to continue the narrative she brought upon herself.'

Second day of York Racecourse's Music Showcase brings excitement

IT'S amazing to think that Ronan Keating first hit the headlines in 1993 when still a teenager with the formation of Boyzone. His worldwide fan club, based not only on his music but also as a judge on X Factor is one of music's largest and the fact he plays the Knavesmire on the second leg of a world tour- and this is one of just two in the UK- is a considerable coup for the York Racecourse team. His appearance on stage after the last race, will be a memorable climax to the Music Showcase weekend which also brings the Sky Bet Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival to a climax. York took the decision a month or so ago to increase the prize money on their two featured Saturday races, and they have been handsomely rewarded with, just like Friday night in excess of 100 runners declared. The £150,000 Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes (2.40pm) is seen as a stepping stone to next month's Group 1 Juddmonte International, which was voted the worlds best race in 2024 being run over the same mile and a quarter distance. This race was first run in 2006 and Twice Over, who won in 2011 is the only one to have completed the double, while Alflailia became the first horse to win this race twice when beating Kings Gambit and Passenger a year ago. Amazingly no jockey, so far, has won it more than once. A top-class field of seven line up headed by Almaqam who was last seen winning the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown in May. The race is a clash of the generations with three-year-old Stanhope Gardens, fifth in the Derby at Epsom and Irish raider Green Impact, sixth in the Irish Derby at The Curragh heading the younger age bracket. The £100,000 Sky Bet Dash (2.00pm), has attracted a maximum 22 runner field- but all eyes will be on Elmonjed, trained by Yorkshireman-in-exile William Haggas who won the equally valuable Constantine Handicap at last year's Sky Bet Ebor Festival. A draw in Stall 10 will only offer encouragement for his supporters. The second big sprint is unique as the jump jockeys, used to three miles plus around Aintree, Cheltenham and more locally at Wetherby, get their chance to exit from the stalls in the Jump Jockeys Nunthorpe (3.20pm) to face the shortest distance possible, just five furlongs. 20 of them will test this new skill to including Joe Williamson aboard Soul Seeker- first and second in this race for the last two years. York record holder, Copper Knight, is to be ridden by Jamie Hamilton, who tries to land his 8th victory on the Knavesmire at the thirty-third time of asking. Racing begins at 1.25pm with all the York facilities open for business, be it the new areas for food and drink in the Bustardthorpe End or in the centre of the course for picnics. But one thing is sure, the sporting action may well be a roller coaster that will all help build the atmosphere pending Mr Keating's arrival.

NEWS OF THE WEEK: Ellen DeGeneres confirms she moved to U.K. because of Donald Trump

Last year, the talk show host and her wife Portia de Rossi reportedly purchased a property in the picturesque Cotswolds area of England. In an onstage conversation with broadcaster Richard Bacon on Sunday, DeGeneres explained that she and de Rossi decided they wanted to live in the U.K. permanently after Trump was elected president for a second term in November 2024. "Yes," she replied when Bacon asked whether Trump was the reason for the move, according to the BBC.
