Maryland Set for Cool, Comfortable Weekend Before Midweek Rain Chances Return
Skies will clear tonight, allowing temperatures to dip to near 60 degrees across much of the region. Some of the typically cooler spots, especially north and west of Baltimore, could fall into the upper 50s by early Saturday morning.
The weekend itself will feature nearly ideal summer conditions. Both Saturday and Sunday will bring plenty of sunshine with highs near 80 degrees. Humidity levels will remain low, making for comfortable afternoons and cool nights. Lows both nights will hover near 60 degrees, with patchy areas dipping into the 50s.
These pleasant conditions will hold into the start of next week. Monday looks sunny once again with highs close to 80, while Tuesday brings increasing clouds. Despite the added cloud cover, the forecast remains dry through Tuesday evening.
By Wednesday, however, the pattern begins to change. Rain chances return midweek and could persist into Friday. While it is too early to pinpoint exact rainfall amounts, multiple days of unsettled weather are possible, which could provide a much-needed soaking for parts of the region that have been running drier over the past several weeks.
Even with the clouds and potential showers, temperatures will stay seasonably mild. Highs throughout the week will remain steady near 80 degrees, with overnight lows holding in the 60s.
This stretch marks a welcome break from the persistent heat and humidity typical of early August. For many across Maryland, the weekend offers a taste of late-summer comfort before a wetter pattern sets in later next week.

No Pets Left Behind: How a Dog's Hurricane Rescue Changed Florida Law
Hurricane Milton was barreling toward Florida last October when the emergency call came in about a dog that was stuck in rising waters. Florida Highway Patrol troopers like Orlando Morales were looking out for crashes as residents scrambled to evacuate from the hurricane, a rapidly intensifying Category 5 storm. When Trooper Morales responded, he was skeptical that it could be true. But then, in the distance off Interstate 75 near Tampa, he spotted the dog's head sticking out from the flooding terrain. Along a grassy field, he pulled his cruiser over and approached the trembling bull terrier as rain poured down. 'It's OK buddy, it's OK,' Trooper Morales said in a gentle tone to the growling dog, according to police video. 'I don't blame you. It's OK,' he continued, before he brought the dog to the safety of his cruiser. Nearly a year later, the dog, a bull terrier who was named Trooper after his savior, has been thriving in his new home in suburban Parkland, Fla., with Frank and Carla Spina and his adoptive sister, Dallas, who is of the same breed. On weekends, Trooper and Dallas enjoy chowing down on scrambled eggs. Trooper's story has inspired a new Florida law that makes restraining and abandoning pets during a natural disaster a felony. Wiltshire in Pictures: Sir Keir and Ian Holloway
If variety is the spice of life then this week has been a good one with; footballing celebrations, a VIP visit and a successful cow rescue. Shortly after welcoming back England's victorious Lionesses the Prime Minister dropped into Swindon to announce plans to support small businesses. A cow rescue operation happened in Malmesbury whilst other parts of the town showed off their scarecrows and we have had lots of fantastic weather watcher snaps from across the county. Still smiling: Ian Holloway managed some of his usual chuckles as he faced the media ahead of the start of the new season for Swindon Town. Mixed bag: We have had rain and thunderstorms this week but also glorious patches of sunshine, which helped these stunning sunflowers in Upavon look great. Picture taken by Weather Watcher TAG. Celebration time: The Lionesses prompted wild celebrations at the Steam Railway Co. pub in Swindon as they beat Spain to win Euro 2025 on penalties last Sunday. Eye do: These hay bales, designed to look like newlyweds, were photographed by weather watcher Barnaby Bear. A mooving story: Firefighters from Malmesbury, a technical rescue team from Stratton and a local vet rescued a young cow that had become stuck in a stone culvert. Best of British: Malmesbury's scarecrow competition started on Friday, with this year's theme being 'Best of British'. Derek Tilney, 92, created this fine member of the King's Guard alongside his children Judie and Richard. The scarecrows are part of Malmesbury carnival and will be on display for the month of August Follow BBC Wiltshire on Facebook, X and Instagram.
