"Dexter: Original Sin" Renewed for Season 2
"Dexter: Original Sin" has been renewed for a second season at Paramount+ with Showtime.
A Season 2 writers room is set to begin shortly, with production dates to be revealed soon.
From creator, showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips, Dexter: Original Sin is the first prequel series in the expanding franchise following serial killer Dexter Morgan.
Michael C. Hall, who portrayed the titular antihero in the mothership series, is the prequel's narrator. Patrick Gibson plays Dexter in his late teens, when he was a baby slayer in training, 15 years before the events of the original Dexter series.
The 10-episode original drama series is set in 1991 Miami and follows Dexter (Gibson), a student refining his killer skills with the help and support of his adoptive father Harry (Christian Slater). In his dad, he finds solace and understanding, especially as his bloodthirsty urges grow and can no longer be ignored.
As his only confidant, Harry teaches Dexter a code that's designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to die — all while avoiding getting caught by law enforcement. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Season 1 also stars Molly Brown, Christina Milian, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu and Reno Wilson, with guest stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Patrick Dempsey.
Dexter: Original Sin premiered on December 13 with 2.1M global viewers across Paramount+ and Showtime in the first three days of availability, according to Deadline's Katie Campione in a December 19 ratings story, noting also that Paramount+ touted the episode as Showtime's most-streamed series in 10 years. By the time of the show's finale on Valentine's Day, the finale audience grew 27% over the December premiere with a tally of 2.68M global viewers on Paramount+ with Showtime, Campione noted on February 20.
It was the most-streamed episode of the season, up 30% from the premiere's streaming audience.
Phillips, who was showrunner on the first four seasons of Dexter, is in production on "Dexter: Resurrection", a continuation of the limited series "Dexter: New Blood," set to premiere this summer.
The Dexter-verse is now one step closer to adding a second prequel spinoff to the franchise, the long-spoken-about Trinity Killer limited series with John Lithgow, who originally played the madman, potentially returning to narrate.
"Dexter: Original Sin" is executive produced by Phillips, who also served as showrunner for the debut season, and produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Executive producers for the first season also included Scott Reynolds, Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns, with the series produced by Robert Lloyd Lewis. Michael Lehmann served as directing executive producer.

Elle and Dakota Fanning to Star in "The Nightingale" Film Adaptation, Sets 2027 Release Date
Yara Sameh TriStar has set a new February 12, 2027 release date for "The Nightingale," its highly anticipated feature adaptation of Kristin Hannah's global bestselling work of historical fiction. Gestating for some time, the project has regained traction for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic, enlisting "To Leslie" helmer Michael Morris to direct. Dakota and Elle Fanning are still set to star and produce, starring together on film for the first time, having first attached to the project in 2019. Dana Stevens (The Woman King) penned the script, and Elizabeth Cantillon will produce for The Cantillon Company, alongside the Fannings and Brittany Kahan Ward for Lewellen Pictures, and Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine. Nicole Brown and Shary Shirazi are overseeing for TriStar Pictures. Sources attributed the February 12, 2027 date to the fact that it's a huge event weekend, with the double holiday of Valentine's Day that Sunday and President's Day on Monday. Sunday, February 14 is also Super Bowl Sunday, which presents an opportunity to counterprogram with a film that already has a substantial built-in fanbase. "The Nightingale" will also be the first big female-skewing title of the year as the schedule currently stands. Selling more than 11 million copies worldwide since its 2015 debut after being translated into 45 languages, "The Nightingale" tells the story of two sisters who dare to embark on separate, dangerous paths during World War II in the fight for survival, love and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France. The book hit No. 1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list and has spent a combined 165 weeks on the list across formats, also dominating NPR's fiction chart for 45 weeks and being named a Reese's Book Club Pick. In March 2025, a special 10th Anniversary Edition got to No. 2 on the NYT hardcover list, and already this year, the book has sold a million copies. "The Nightingale" has had a decently long journey to the screen, beginning with TriStar's move to lock down film rights in 2015, with Ann Peacock coming on to write and Cantillon to produce. (The latter has been with the project ever since.) Writer-director Michelle MacLaren and co-writer John Sayles attached to a later iteration, with the Fannings initially coming on to star in a version helmed by Mélanie Laurent from Stevens' script. Just when it looked like the project would get off the ground, the pandemic resulted in numerous delays, with Laurent stepping back to attend to other projects in the interim. A two-time Emmy nominee known for his directing on series like Better Call Saul, "13 Reasons Why" and "Kingdom", Morris directed Andrea Riseborough to her first Oscar nomination with his feature directorial debut, the indie drama "To Leslie". His follow-up project on the feature side was "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy", which enjoyed acclaim as well as international box office success, surpassing $100M globally while premiering on Peacock only in the U.S. Dakota Fanning will next be seen starring opposite Sarah Snook in Peacock's upcoming series "All Her Fault". Elle Fanning, meanwhile, is next set to appear in dual roles in Dan Trachtenberg's "Predator: Badlands", out November 7, and in a starring role alongside Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgard in Joachim Trier's "Sentimental Value", the winner of Cannes' "Grand Prix", which is out in limited release via Neon on the same day. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

"Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse" Release Delayed by 3 Weeks
Yara Sameh Spider-Man fans will have to wait just a little bit longer for 'Beyond the Spider-Verse.' The third installment in Sony's popular web-slinging animated trilogy has shifted its release date back by three weeks, from June 4, 2027 to June 25, 2027. Studio insiders tell Variety the move was made to capitalize on school-aged moviegoers — 100% of schools in the U.S. will be on summer break by the new date, as opposed to only 65% on June 4. 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse' is the conclusion to a trilogy that began with 2018's 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' and continued with 2023's 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.' Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson serve as directors for 'Beyond the Spider-Verse.' The screenplay is scripted by 'Spider-Verse' creators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, alongside David Callaham. Lord and Miller will also produce with Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Jinko Gotoh. Aditya Sood and Christina Steinberg are executive producing while Jessica Berri will serve as co-producer. At CinemaCon in March, Lord told the audience that the threequel would begin with protagonist Miles Morales as a fugitive on the run from every other spider in the multiverse, and hinted that 'Gwen and his other friends may or may not be enough to help him save the family that's been the leading part of the entire system.' 'Into the Spider-Verse' took home the Oscar for best animated feature at the 91st Academy Awards, and 'Across the Spider-Verse' landed a nod in the same category. The first entry grossed $384 million globally in addition, while the sequel raked in a mighty $690 million. Sony also added the animated comedy 'Buds' to the schedule for March 12, 2027 from Sony Pictures Animation. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language

Hailee Steinfeld Teams Up with Miles Teller in Olympics Pic "Winter Games"
Yara Sameh After battling vampirism in the box office smash "Sinners", Hailee Steinfeld has found her follow-up project in Paramount's Olympics film "Winter Games", starring opposite Miles Teller. Paul Downs Colaizzo is directing the movie from a script he co-wrote alongside Pat Cunnane. Set in the high-stakes arena of the Winter Olympics, the movie follows a perpetually overlooked skier (Steinfeld) and a self-sabotaging hockey legend (Teller) who collide at their breaking points. Their unexpected connection threatens her chance for a medal and his shot at a comeback as they navigate romance and redemption in the Olympic Village. Tim and Trevor White are producing on behalf of Star Thrower alongside Teller. Steinfeld is coming off one of the year's biggest hits with the Warner Bros horror thriller "Sinners", where she stars opposite Michael B. Jordan. The pic blew past expectations with $365 million to date at the global box office — which includes an astounding $278 million domestic — making it the top-grossing original movie of the past 15 years and the fifth-highest-grossing horror movie of all time. Following an almost two-year break, Steinfeld made her much anticipated return to music on the Sinners soundtrack with 'Dangerous.' The song amassed over 4.7 million streams on Spotify in its first month. The movie also earned rave reviews, putting it, Steinfeld and her co-stars in the mix for consideration this awards season. Following the film's success, Steinfeld saw a slew of offers come in but, after taking her time, she ultimately landed on "Winter Games" as her follow-up pic. In 2023, Steinfeld reprised her voice role as Spider-Gwen in "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse". The second film in the popular trilogy grossed over $690 million globally and received rave reviews. The first film, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2019. Spider-Gwen will make her return in "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse" on June 4, 2027. In 2021, Steinfeld made her Marvel debut as Kate Bishop in Disney+'s "Hawkeye", starring alongside Jeremy Renner. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language
