New on Paramount Plus this month — all the new shows and movies to watch
Paramount Plus adds tons of new shows and movies every month, and this July is no different. Leading the pack on the streaming service this month are a pair of hit original franchises back with new episodes. "Dexter: Resurrection" continues the "Dexter" franchise, picking up mere weeks after the events of "Dexter: New Blood." But we've abandoned the small town of Iron Lake, New York, and are headed for the Big Apple in this new spin-off. Later in the month, "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" returns for its third season. The prequel series premieres on July 17, and if you ask any "Trek" fan, they'll tell you that you don't want to miss it. Here's everything new on Paramount Plus this month, starting with our top picks. If you need more to watch, check out these five highly-rated movies that arrived on Paramount Plus last month. "Dexter" has been a massive hit for Paramount. The Showtime original series about the titular vigilante serial killer has spawned 10 seasons of television across three shows, including this latest spin-off. "Dexter: Resurrection" picks up weeks after the events of "New Blood," in which Dexter (Michael C. Hall) miraculously recovered from a gunshot wound. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. But when he wakes in his hospital bed to find Miami PD Captain Angel Batista (David Zayas) waiting to bring him to justice, he ditches the small town of Iron Lake, New York, and heads for New York City to disappear — and find his missing son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). Premieres July 11 on Paramount Plus Premium "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" stars Anson Mount as Christopher Pike, captain of the USS Enterprise. Now, if that name — and that ship — sound familiar, that's because they're both famously from "Star Trek: The Original Series." This series is a prequel to that groundbreaking sci-fi show, set in the decade prior. Because it's a prequel, Captain Pike isn't the only familiar name. Spock (Ethan Peck), Number One (Rebecca Romijn) and several other characters have returned. The season 2 finale even saw the arrival of Starfleet engineer Montgomery Scott (Martin Quinn). Season 3 will cover the third year of the Enterprise's five-year mission, marking the midpoint of the series. If you have loved "Star Trek" in the past, it's time to return to the fold for "Strange New Worlds" if you haven't already. Premieres July 17 on Paramount Plus I'm not a huge reality TV fan, but I make a few exceptions. "The Traitors," of course, is one. But "The Challenge" was the first competition show I really got into. For those who have never seen "The Challenge," the reality competition show pits dozens of competitors against each other in grueling tasks and brutal eliminations. But the show's secret sauce is the drama between competitors we see play out in the house once the day's events are over. Lately, it's been a show more about athletic prowess than social game, which is why I've come to love "The Challenge: All Stars." This version of the show features older stars from seasons past who know your social game matters as much as your physical strength. Because all the "All Stars" are veterans, they also bring plenty of baggage when they come to compete. In season 5, the competitors are paired with one of their historic rivals, and you'll have to tune in to see who can stand to work with each other and who still holds a grudge. Watch it on Paramount Plus starting July 16 JULY 1 "Monster Summer"* When a mysterious force begins to disrupt their big summer fun, a group of friends team up with a retired police detective (played by Mel Gibson) to embark on an adventure to save their island. JULY 2 "Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado" premiere In this new live-action movie, the world's greatest explorer and her friends will trek through the perilous dangers of the Amazonian jungle in search of the ancient treasure of Sol Dorado to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. "Dora" season 3 premiere It's Dora, the world's most famous exploradora! Join her and all her friends on brand new, magical adventures in the rainforest! JULY 11 "Dexter: Resurrection" series premiere* The highly anticipated original drama series is a continuation of Dexter: New Blood, taking place weeks after Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won't come easily. JULY 17 "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 3 premiere The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise is still under the command of Captain Pike as they face the conclusion of season two's harrowing encounter with the Gorn. But new life and civilizations await, including a villain that will test their grit and resolve. JULY 2 "Dora & Diego: Rainforest Rescues special" JULY 8 "White Famous" season 1 JULY 10 "Big Brother" season 27) JULY 16 "The Challenge: All Stars" season 5"Max and the Midknights" season 1 JULY 23 "RuPaul's Drag Race" season 17"RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked" season 16 JULY 30 "CMT Live - Nate Smith at Busch Country: One Night Only" JULY 1 "A Soldier's Story""A Walk Among the Tombstones""A Walk on the Moon""Airplane II: The Sequel""Airplane!""An Officer and a Gentleman""Beverly Hills Cop""Beverly Hills Cop II""Beverly Hills Cop III""Boys And Girls""Breakfast at Tiffany's""Chicago""City of God""City of Men""Congo""Cracks"*"Crisis"*"Defiance""Don Jon""Downhill Racer""Election""Failure to Launch""Full Metal Jacket""G.I. Paramount+ With Showtime Streaming Service Gets Renamed ‘Paramount+ Premium'
Paramount Global has quietly erased Showtime from the name of its top-tier streaming package. On June 23, Paramount informed subscribers that the name of its ad-free plan is no longer Paramount+ With Showtime — instead, it's now called Paramount+ Premium. The pricing of the package remains the same: It still costs $12.99 per month or $119.99 per year. More from Variety Gary Levine to Retire From Showtime After 40 Years in Programming 'Dexter: Resurrection' Trailer: Dexter Morgan Is Back in Bloody Revival How to Watch the 2025 UEFA Champions League Final Live Online The two packages now offered by the company are Paramount+ Premium, which does not have ads except in the bundled live local CBS feeds; and Paramount+ Essential with ads ($7.99 per month). The company rebranded the ad-free package as Paramount+ With Showtime in the summer of 2023, and said it would phase out the stand-alone Showtime streamer (which shut down in April 2024). Now, after two years, the company is dropping the Showtime name. 'Since we recently introduced a sampling of Showtime programming to the Essential plan, the Premium plan name reflects the broad and diverse offerings across both plan tiers,' the company said in a notice on its customer-support site about the name change. 'Showtime programming remains an important part of Paramount+, and is still prominently represented on the service!' The name change comes as Warner Bros. Discovery has gone back in the other direction: It's going to reattach the HBO name to its flagship Max streamer, which will this summer become HBO Max again. Meanwhile, in what may potentially cause some confusion, the name of the Paramount+ With Showtime linear TV network on cable, satellite, or internet TV streaming services (like Hulu with Live TV) will not be changing, according to Paramount. Paramount said that depending on a customer's device, they 'may not see the plan name change immediately. But rest assured, if you sign up for the Premium plan while it's still Paramount+ With Showtime, your plan benefits will not be impacted!' Netflix just lost 'Dexter' at the worst time — here's where you can stream it before 'Resurrection'
Even though Netflix didn't include "Dexter" on its list of what's leaving the streaming service this month, Showtime's hit crime drama has been quietly removed from the service (in the U.S). The much-loved series revolves around Michael C. Hall's titular vigilante serial killer, and originally ran for 96 episodes across 8 seasons between 2006 and 2013. Since then, it's endured in the streaming era as a bingeable fave, but disappeared from Netflix U.S on Thursday, June 19, precisely one year after it came to the streamer. While the series remains available in the U.K. (as of the time of writing), anyone mid-watch in the United States will now need to sign up for Paramount Plus if they want to continue watching. This change couldn't have come at a worse time, really, as longtime "Dexter" fans who might've been rewatching the original show on Netflix in time for "Dexter: Resurrection" will now have to switch services to do so. If you don't yet have a Paramount Plus subscription, now's the time to get one: "Dexter: Resurrection" is due to premiere there on Friday, July 11. To be clear, the original "Dexter" series is only available on the ad-supported Paramount Plus Essential plan ($7.99/month), but if you're hoping to dive into the new spin-off, you'll need access to Paramount Plus Premium (formerly Paramount Plus with Showtime). Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Paramount Plus Premium costs $12.99/month. In addition to eliminating ads (except in live TV streaming), that extra $5/month nets you several other benefits. Premium customers can also download select shows and movies, stream local CBS channels, and, of course, get access to Showtime original programming, plus everything available on the cheaper tier. Taking place weeks after the previous sequel series, "Dexter: New Blood," finds Dexter Morgan waking up from a coma and heading to New York City in pursuit of his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). He's determined to find Harrison and make things right... Though Dexter soon realizes that his past is catching up to him, fast, forcing the pair to navigate the darkness together. Check out the trailer below: If you've never seen an episode of "Dexter" before, there's an easy way to see whether you'd like it: Showtime previously uploaded the very first episode of the original series to YouTube, so you can see what's in store without spending a dime. If you're signed up already and are looking to make the most of your subscription, check out our rundown of the best shows and movies on Paramount Plus for our top streaming recommendations.

Did Dexter get taken off Netflix? Here's where to watch the series
Dexter, the beloved crime drama series, is set to leave Netflix on June 19, according to multiple media reports. The show made a surprising return on the platform last year. However, due to its license expiring, there is no update on whether the streaming giant will be able to hold on to the show any longer. The show's plot follows a serial killer who takes it upon himself to track down and kill those whom he sees as having escaped the US justice system. It first aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013 and came on Netflix two years after it went off cable. Although the earlier seasons were a huge success, the IMDb ratings for the show took a sharp decline towards the latter half. Dexter first came to Netflix in 2015 and stayed on until 2020, when it was abruptly taken down after its license expired. However, it gradually returned to the platform in specific regions in 2024 and made its way to Netflix US on July 19, 2024. Despite raking up an impressive 1.01 billion viewing hours since its re-release, the show will no longer be available on the platform starting June 19 of this year. Although Dexter is leaving Netflix, fans will still be able to stream all eight seasons of the slasher series on Paramount+ with Showtime, which is available for $12.99/month. As Netflix's rival is the original home of Dexter, spin-offs Dexter: New Blood and Dexter: Original Sin are available for streaming on the platform. Additionally, the series' sequel, titled Dexter: Resurrection, will also be available for streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime on July 11. According to Just Watch, viewers can also stream individual episodes of the show on Apple TV for $2.99 per episode. Meanwhile, Netflix UK and Canada will keep the show until March 31, 2026, per What's on Netflix.
