Kindergarten teacher scammed of RM108,703 through fake job and loan offers
Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the 32-year-old victim was first contacted by a male suspect on June 20, who claimed she had been selected as a lucky customer and won a prize consisting of groceries.
On June 28, the victim received groceries worth around RM50 as promised and was then asked to provide her bank account number to receive a supposed RM8 reward.
"She was later offered a part-time job that involved clicking product links and following accounts in exchange for lucrative rewards. However, the suspect claimed the victim was late in completing her tasks and had to pay a penalty to retrieve the promised earnings,' he said in a statement Tuesday (July 8).
Azli said the victim used all her savings and proceeds from selling jewellery to make transfers to several bank accounts between July 1 and 3, and then was instructed to make an additional payment of RM75,000.
In desperation, she sought to borrow money through two online loan sharks (ah long) and made deposit payments to five different bank accounts. However, no loan was ever disbursed.
"The loan agents claimed the payments were for processing and administrative fees. Despite making the payments, the victim never received the promised funds,' he said.
Realising she had been scammed by two separate syndicates, the victim lodged a police report yesterday evening.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - Bernama

Three Bangladeshi men killed in highway crash at LPT1 near Kuantan
KUANTAN: Three Bangladeshi men were killed and two others injured after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in skidded off the road at KM200.8 of the East Coast Highway (LPT1) near here yesterday. Melaka lecturer pleads not guilty to amphetamine, syabu consumption
MELAKA: A public university lecturer in Melaka pleaded not guilty at the Ayer Keroh magistrate's court today to a charge of consuming amphetamine and syabu last month. Mohd Shahrizan Othman, 44, entered the plea after the charge was read to him by a court interpreter before Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman. According to the charge, he was found to have self-administered amphetamine and methamphetamine, listed in Part III of the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division Office of the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters. The offence was committed on June 19, at 5.20pm. He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952, which carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or both, along with a supervision order of between two and three years under Section 38B of the same act. Deputy public prosecutor Syaza Nur Sharif prosecuted the case, while the accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Muhammad Izzuddin Ab Malek. During the appeal, the lawyer said the accused was a lecturer with an income of about RM7,000 and was currently suspended due to the court case. The court granted bail at RM2,000 and set Sept 29 for mention, pending a pathology report.

Four-year-old boy dies after falling from eighth floor in Port Klang
SHAH ALAM, Aug 2 — A four-year-old boy was found dead after he is believed to have fallen from the eighth floor of a flats in Port Klang near here yesterday. Klang Selatan Police deputy chief Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said an emergency call was received at about 8 am. He said the incident occurred while the boy's father was at work and the mother had gone out to take their second child to the babysitter. 'Preliminary investigations indicate that the boy fell from the window of his home on the eighth floor. He was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang, but was pronounced dead during treatment,' he said in a statement. Kamalariffin said the case was being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
