Aryna Sabalenka withdraws from Canadian Open citing fatigue
'I'm looking forward to kicking off the North American hard-court swing, but to give myself the best chance for success this season, I've decided it's in my best interest to skip Montreal,' Sabalenka said in a statement announcing her withdrawal.
Sabalenka played the tournament last year, after missing the 2024 Paris Olympic tennis event which directly preceded it. She reached the quarterfinals, losing in three sets to Amanda Anisimova of the U.S. — the player who beat her in this year's Wimbledon semifinals.
That defeat took her Grand Slam record for 2025 to two finals and one semifinal, but no titles, having lost the Australian Open final to Madison Keys and the French Open final to Coco Gauff. She has reached seven finals in 2025, playing 56 matches in the year to date and winning three titles.
Anisimova, who lost 6-0, 6-0 to Iga Świątek in the Wimbledon final but rose to world No. 7 in the process, has herself withdrawn from the D.C. Open in Washington, D.C., which begins July 21.
Defending champion Paula Badosa has also withdrawn due to a persistent injury to her lower back, so the world No. 10 will drop 500 points from her ranking. Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen, who had received a wild card into the main draw, has also been removed from the player list.

American star Katie Ledecky won her seventh world title in the women's 800-meter freestyle on Saturday, fending off the challenges of Canadian sensation Summer McIntosh and Australia's Lani Pallister. 'We got three under 8:10 there. That's pretty incredible,' Ledecky said afterward. 'Lani with the 8:05, Summer with the 8:07. That's incredibly fast and they pushed me all the way. I'm just really happy I could put that together. I just kept telling myself to trust my legs, because I've gotten a little better at kicking. So, I brought it home in the end.' They set off fast – all three swimmers were inside world-record pace at the halfway point – but Ledecky eventually finished just over a second outside the record she set in May. Aside from a short period with about 100m to go when McIntosh edged in front, Ledecky led for almost the entire race, and had enough energy left to hold off any late sprints from her rivals. 'I just came in tonight trying to enjoy this as much as I can,' she added. 'I don't feel like I have anything to lose at this point in my career. I just enjoy it every time I get to walk out in front of a crowd like this and swim against the best in the world.' This victory marks Ledecky's second gold medal at this championship and the 23rd world title of her glittering career after she won the 1,500m earlier this week. McIntosh, meanwhile, has already won three gold medals at this championship – in the 200m butterfly, 400m freestyle and 200m medley – and has a chance to win a fourth in the 400m individual medley on Sunday.

Dan Quinn says Terry McLaurin's trade request is ‘normal business' in NFL
Commanders coach Dan Quinn insisted the trade request made by his team's star receiver, Terry McLaurin, is 'part of normal business' in the NFL and is not a distraction to the team. 'He let me know that that was happening too, so I appreciated that,' Quinn said ahead of the Commanders' training camp practice on Saturday, where McLaurin continues to 'hold-in,' attending practices but not participating. 'We love Terry. Really glad he's here. Hopefully he's out practicing soon. We also understand that there's a business side of this thing that (general manager Adam Peters) and his side and Terry and his reps are working through. … Somebody asked me if it's a distraction. It is not.' Advertisement Quinn said NFL players are now 'more aware' of contract situations, for themselves and teammates, and that the rest of the team has maintained focus on camp and practice as McLaurin works through his situation. The 29-year-old wideout participated in the start of the Commanders' offseason workout program earlier this year, but skipped organized team activities and mandatory minicamp as he seeks a new deal with the team. He held out the first three practices of training camp before returning to facility in order to avoid the mandatory fines that were collectively bargained between players and the league. The team placed him on the active/physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury, limiting McLaurin to only strength and conditioning work and team meetings. McLaurin has stayed inside the team's facility during their morning workouts, but has has signed autographs for fans at each of the last five practices. Quinn said the receiver observes the team's afternoon walkthrough from the sideline, sometimes standing alongside linebacker Bobby Wagner. Asked if he's surprised the situation with McLaurin has reached this point — a face-of-the-franchise player beloved by fans asking to be traded because of a contract stalemate — Quinn said he tries to 'avoid judging.' 'I'm not surprised,' he added. 'I'm, honestly, I'm glad (McLaurin's) here and I do love coaching him. I try to avoid judging. … I recognize the players are trying to set themselves and their families up so I try to not put myself into that spot. It's too easy to say, 'Man, if I had that much, I'd do this or that.' So I don't go there. I try to support him as best as I can, but we don't discuss the finance part of things. Seth Rollins looms large at SummerSlam amid possible knee injury
The Undisputed WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship will both be up for grabs during the first-ever two-night SummerSlam this weekend. Gunther will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk, and John Cena, in likely his final SummerSlam premium live event, will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship in a street fight. There's one person who looms large over the entire world championship scene, and he is Seth Rollins. Rollins appeared to have suffered a knee injury during his Saturday Night's Main Event match against LA Knight. He came up lame as he tried to land a moonsault onto Knight. The referee briefly stopped the match but when he decided to continue on, Knight took advantage and won. Since then, Rollins has not appeared on "Monday Night Raw." Instead, his consigliere, Paul Heyman, has held his Money in the Bank briefcase as Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed continued to wreak havoc on Jey Uso and Roman Reigns. Rollins has only addressed the knee injury once – when he filled in as the host for Rich Eisen on his radio show. "There was some imaging. It was a little too swollen. So, we're going to take another look, hopefully in a week or two here in LA," he said. "Try to get some sort of firm diagnosis, and we can go from there. I am not a doctor, I only know my body and what I feel. What I feel is that this is going to be me out for an extended period of time." Those remarks were made on July 16. He hasn't been seen or heard from since, and it's unclear how hurt Rollins actually is. Heyman teased a Plan B with Breakker, but that has yet to unravel itself. Rollins could cash in his Money in the Bank contract at any time and insert himself into a match for either title. It could make the moment for either title match huge. But the bigger question is which title he would go for. "The Revolutionary" could very well make sure that he fulfills his promise to make sure Punk never holds as championship ever again and insert himself into his match against Gunther. He could also do it without cashing in his contract and go for the major prize. Rollins and Rhodes have feuded in the past and the two teamed up at WrestleMania 40 to take on The Rock and Roman Reigns. The Undisputed WWE Championship is the biggest prize in WWE and to take the title away from Rhodes and Cena would certainly turn WWE on its head. Rollins nearly cashed in at Night of Champions. The third possibility is that Rollins is actually hurt and that the injury isn't a so-called "work." But injured or not, Rollins holds the cards at the biggest event of the summer in WWE.
