Update On Tottenham Hotspur In Their Pursuit Of This Bayern Munich Talent: Good Choice For Frank?

Yahoo2 days ago
In a recent post on X, journalist Sebastien Vidal offered an update on Tottenham Hotspur and their pursuit of Bayern Munich talent Joao Palhinha. It has been claimed that Spurs are ready to launch a £45m bid to land the Portugal international in this summer transfer period.
Palhinha's Decent Form In The Bundesliga
The 30-year-old proved his worth at times for Bayern in the previous campaign, but was sidelined for a lot of games for them because of injury. Palhinha played in 25 matches for the Munich outfit last season in all competitions.
Palhinha gave a good account of himself in the middle of the park as he made 20 tackles, 13 blocks and 4 interceptions in the Bundesliga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from midfield, based on his pass completion rate of 92.4% in the German top flight (stats via fbref.com).
Palhinha's current contract at the Munich club will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, Tottenham would have no choice but to meet Bayern's demands for their prized asset in this transfer period.

Is Palhinha A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank?
Palhinha is a tough-tackling midfielder who can make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half when he is playing well on the pitch. He usually clears his lines when required and is an accurate passer of the ball from midfield.
Standing at 1.90m, the Portuguese sensation is a strong presence in the air. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League from his time at Fulham and won't take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham.
Palhinha would inject more bite and steel into Spurs head coach Thomas Frank's midfield department. He is capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the North London club next season.
At 30, Palhinha has still got plenty of football left in him to play at a high level. Therefore, Tottenham would do well to lure him back to English football this summer. Furthermore, Palhinha might even help Spurs challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. With all things considered, it makes sense for Frank to try everything in his power to snap him up before the end of this transfer period.

Two Barcelona stars back Marc-André ter Stegen as captain

Two members of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona have on Thursday moved to throw their backing behind under-fire club captain Marc-André ter Stegen. The subject of Ter Stegen's captaincy status has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya's capital for several weeks now. This comes amid the widespread understanding that those in a position of power at Barcelona are giving serious consideration to stripping the German of his armband. Ter Stegen currently finds himself in something of a precarious situation in Hansi Flick's squad. Following the arrival of Joan García this summer, the 33-year-old has been knocked down to third-choice between the posts. Not only that, but he is facing up to an incoming spell on the sidelines, after undergoing surgery earlier this week. Owing to as much, as well as behavioural issues, Barcelona, in turn, are said to be considering removing Ter Stegen from the club's group of captains. Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the Blaugrana's meeting with FC Seoul earlier today, the subject of as much was therefore put to two other members of Hansi Flick's squad. And both made use of the opportunity to back their teammate. First, Frenkie de Jong explained: 'For me, Marc is the team's captain. He has always given his best to the club. I support him a lot, and the team does too.' And Ferran Torres soon followed suit in adding: 'Ter Stegen, just because of his experience and the years he's been here, I think he will be captain. I don't know if there will be votes, we haven't talked about it, at least I'm not aware.' Conor Laird – GSFN

Before that however, it looks like Wirtz will be making a quick return to Leverkusen. Leverkusen want to say goodbye to Wirtz The Werkself completed their Bundesliga campaign back in mid-May - with a 2-2 draw against Mainz. Back then there wasn't a big transfer clamour around Wirtz. In effect, it wasn't realised that he was playing his last games for the club. And having starred in the 2023/24 league and cup double successes, Wirtz departs as a bonafide club legend. The issue for Leverkusen and their supporters is they never got to say goodbye in a fitting manner. Plans are now afoot to bring Wirtz back for a special appearance. They play Pisa on Tuesday August 5 in a preseason friendly at the BayArena and according to Sport the club intend to honour Wirtz with a special farewell. Farewell party planned 'Florian Wirtz could travel to Leverkusen once again to say goodbye to the Werkself fans at their home stadium, the BayArena,' a report reads. 'A request to Liverpool FC to release the international from training on August 5 and possibly 6 has already been submitted. 'A final decision on whether Wirtz will be granted permission for the short trip to Leverkusen is not expected until this weekend.' In total Wirtz played 197 times for Bayer Leverkusen - scoring 57 goals. He leaves a two-time reigning Bundesliga players' player of the year.

NBA announces 6 Europe games over next 3 years

The post NBA announces 6 Europe games over next 3 years appeared first on ClutchPoints. The ever-expanding NBA has seen consistent growth in recent years, with franchise valuations at an all-time high. The world's best basketball league has become a global phenomenon under commissioner Adam Silver, and the league is continuing its push in Europe with a series of six games over the next three years. The NBA announced Wednesday that Berlin and London will host games in 2026, Manchester and Paris will host games in 2027, and Berlin and Paris will host games in 2028. The Paris Games have been a highlight of the NBA's regular-season calendar in recent years. The NBA previously made annual regular-season trips to London's O2 Arena from 2011-19, and now Berlin and Manchester will join the fun. The Berlin game will be the first regular-season NBA game ever held in Germany, while Manchester previously hosted a preseason game in 2013. The NBA will launch this European stretch with the Orlando Magic and Memphis Grizzlies facing off in Berlin on January 15, 2026, and then in London on January 18, 2026. The participating teams for the games in 2027 and 2028 will be announced before those seasons. The Magic, who also boast of German players Franz and Moritz Wagner, will mark their fourth and fifth appearances in Grizzlies, on the other hand, will be making their European debut. These matchups are made even juicier by the fact that Orlando acquired star guard Desmond Bane from Memphis this offseason. While these teams are traditionally seen as non-basketball markets, the NBA has become a rich financial market, with the 30 franchises currently valued collectively at over $130 billion.
