3 bodies found in Missouri River believed to be girls who went missing while fishing in Omaha

NBC News01-05-2025
Authorities believe they have recovered the bodies of three girls who went missing after going on a fishing trip last month on the Missouri River in Omaha, Nebraska.
Lah Tray Moo, 18, Laiana Green, 18, and Eh Cress Moo, 11, were out on the water and reported missing on April 15, according to NBC News affiliate WOWT. The station reported that they were with a 13-year-old relative who was unharmed.
Authorities said one of the girls slipped into the river and the others went into the water in an attempt to rescue her.
Lah Tray Moo's body was found on Saturday by a bystander at NP Dodge Park. A representative for the Omaha Police Department confirmed to NBC News that her body has been positively identified.
Coby Werner, battalion chief, told WOWT at the time that the discovery could help recovery teams find the other two girls.
"The indication is that maybe the girls are still up in this area," Werner said. "But with the way the river flows, you just never know, so we're going to continue, we're going to focus up here tomorrow, but we'll also continue to search down river as well just in case."
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the Omaha Fire Department confirmed that two more bodies were recovered in the river on Tuesday night.
Eh Cress Moo would have turned 12 years old on April 22.
Autopsies were still underway to confirm their identities, the police department said, but they are presumed to be the other two missing girls.
"We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of these girls," the fire department wrote on Facebook. "The loss of these young lives has touched our entire community, and our hearts continue to be with you now and in the days ahead."
A GoFundMe raising fund for the Moo family to cover funeral expenses asked for prayers and support as they handle the "devastating loss."
"This is a nightmare for our family as we have to go through this tragedy," the campaign wrote. "We're grateful for everyone who has been there for us in this difficult time."

Local community backs charity fundraiser after lifeline van damaged

The founder of a Glasgow charity has said his faith in humanity has been restored after a local community backed a fundraiser to repair a delivery van that was vandalised. Chris Halliday, founder and chief executive of the Halliday Foundation, discovered one of his delivery vans smashed up after a meeting in Dennistoun on July 16. 'I just couldn't understand why this had happened' Chris told STV News. The charity was getting ready to move into the area and provide furniture to social housing tenants, as well as food packages and fuel vouchers to families living in poverty. But, after their vehicle was vandalised, the charity was forced to cancel and postpone vital services. The Halliday Foundation 'There was a family sleeping on the floor, and we were supposed to bring them beds. We had to cancel and get it done at a later time. 'We already have a huge backlog of people waiting for our help as well as 25 to 30 referrals a week, and that's just for furniture.' The charity launched a GoFundMe to ask for funds to make up an insurance excess of £250. Chris told STV News that the response from the Denniston community has been 'reinvigorating' with all the money needed raised within a week. Chris Halliday Chris said, 'The vandalism wasn't a good welcome to the area, but we've had a lot of response from the community. 'We've gotten calls asking to please still come and provide our service – that people still really need our support (in Denniston). 'Most have come from the local Denniston community, and we had others phoning in to provide support and donations. 'It's been really reinvigorating.' Police Scotland said it is investigating the damage. STV News is now on WhatsApp Get all the latest news from around the country Follow STV News

Teddi Mellencamp's Los Angeles home target of burglary as she was home with kids and husband

Two people allegedly attempted to burglarize former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Teddi Mellencamp's Los Angeles home on Monday night, her husband said. Three people jumped their gate and set off their alarm system, Mellencamp's estranged husband Edwin Arroyave told NBC News Los Angeles. The suspects broke in through a side door into their office, but fled after about 20 seconds he said. He and Mellencamp were both home at the time with their four children, who ranged in age from 5 to 16 years old. "By the time we came down, they had already ran out," Arroyave said. "But I just saw, obviously, the doors open at the house and stuff." A spokesperson from the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to NBC News that officers responded to a report of a burglary on Mellencamp's block at 10:15 p.m. on Monday night. The caller told officers that two men in black hoodies came to their house after a neighbor's house was burglarized, police said. Arroyave believes the suspects were scared off by the security system and the fact that people were home. Officers arrived quickly, but the suspects fled before they got to the house, Arroyave added. "You really don't see anything because they have hoods, fully covered, gloves," Arroyave said. "I mean, they're professionals at what they do and stuff, although these seem pretty young." Break-ins have become an "unfortunate thing" happening with some frequency in Los Angeles, he said. Arroyave focused on the positive aspects of the incident and that everyone was safe despite the scary moment. He urged others to "prepare for the unexpected." Mellencamp made headlines earlier this year when she revealed doctors found multiple tumors on her brain. She posted in February that she went to the hospital with a debilitating headache that prompted scans. She had previously been open about her ongoing battle with stage 2 melanoma, which metastasized into stage 4 cancer with tumors developed on her lungs and brain. Mellencamp shared later that month that the tumors 'significantly shrunk" following surgery and immunotherapy. In addition to her health struggle, Mellencamp is separated from Arroyave, but they paused divorce proceedings amid her cancer treatment. Arroyave has his own home but sometimes stays in a guest room at Mellencamp's house, according to Bravo, home of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills." This helps ensure that Mellencamp never sleeps alone while she deals with her health issues.

Suspect in killings of 'American Idol' supervisor and husband allegedly used their own gun against them

The suspect accused of killing an "American Idol" music supervisor and her husband in their Los Angeles home allegedly used the couple's own gun in the murders and called police, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. Raymond Boodarian, 22, allegedly killed Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca, both 70, on July 10 after the couple returned to their Encino home while he was burglarizing the residence, officials said. The couple was found dead last Monday after police conducted a welfare check and found blood at the door, according to Los Angeles police. Hochman shared the update about the suspect and alleged murder weapon during a public safety meeting hosted by the Encino Neighborhood Council to discuss the incident on Monday night. Over 100 concerned Encino residents attended the meeting to demand answers as to why Boodarian was out on the streets, despite being jailed last year on suspicion of battery, displaying a weapon and making threats, Encino Neighborhood Council President Josh Sautter told NBC News A judge dismissed the case in December after hearings concerning Boodarian's mental health, NBC Los Angeles reported. At the meeting, Hochman said Boodarian was arrested the day after the couple's bodies were found. "Mr. Boodarian got caught because he used his cell phone to contact police concerning the situation, actually identified himself by name," Hochman said during the meeting. "Police were able to ping the cell phone, find out where he lived, go to his residence and arrest him." Hochman also said investigators found the gun used in the double murder, and that it did not belong to Boodarian. "It was Robyn and Tom's gun," he said. "It wasn't his gun. It was exceptionally tragic." Boodarian is believed to have entered the couple's home at around 4 p.m. through an unlocked door on July 10, according to officials. Kaye and Deluca returned home from the grocery store and found Boodarian there, prosecutors said. 'In a matter of moments, this couple was senselessly killed in their own home as they returned from the grocery store,' Hochman said in a statement issued last week. Police were called to the couple's home on the same day for a report of a possible burglary, but officers did not see any evidence of a crime, the police department said last week. Their bodies were found last Monday after someone requested a welfare check after not hearing from one of the residents for several days, police said. Kaye had been working for "American Idol" since 2009, according to a spokesperson for the show. Sautter, who met Kaye after she contacted the neighborhood council regarding a safety issue concerning a house next door, said she was "so full of joy and gratitude." "You could feel her joy for life," Sautter said. Boodarian was arrested last Tuesday and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree burglary, but the charges are with special allegations, like multiple murder, that would increase a possible sentence. If convicted, Boodarian could face life in prison, officials said. He is being held without bail in a Los Angeles correctional facility, according to online records. The Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office, who represents Boodarian, according to records, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Boodarian's next court date is scheduled for Aug. 20, per online records. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police are trying to determine if there was a connection between Boodarian and the couple.
