It wasn't just a hard-fought draw in Manchester — it was about pride, grit, and a little bit of drama. On Sunday, with the Test clearly heading for a draw, England captain
Ben Stokes
offered to call the game off.
But India had other plans.
Ravindra Jadeja
was on 89 and
Washington Sundar
on 80 when Stokes walked up to the umpire to propose a handshake draw. But instead of walking off, the two Indian batters chose to stay and continue batting — determined to complete their centuries after leading a brilliant rescue act.

India stay alive, England frustrated after draw; handshake drama at Old Trafford and more
Legendary actor
Amitabh Bachchan
summed up the mood on X (formerly Twitter) with a cheeky reaction to the moment. Quoting a fan post, he wrote: 'Take!?? अरे गोरे को टिका (tika, sorry
tayka
) दिया रे!' — a fun nod to India's refusal to settle quietly.
Amitabh Bachchan tweet
Ben Stokes was visibly unhappy. "Do you want to score a hundred against
Harry Brook
?" he asked sarcastically. But Jadeja didn't engage. He just smiled and kept batting — even lofted Brook for a six to get his hundred.
Poll
Do you think India made the right decision to continue batting despite the draw proposal?
Absolutely, they deserved their centuries
Yes, it showed great determination
No, they should have accepted the draw
Gautam Gambhir
backed the call: 'If someone is batting on 90 and the other on 85, don't they deserve a hundred?'
Captain Shubman Gill agreed. 'It was up to the boys. They deserved their centuries.'
India showed character. England showed frustration. And Amitabh Bachchan gave it the final word.

World Champion Gukesh acknowledges the massive achievement of Divya Deshmukh: 'It is not easy to win the tournament'
World Champion of Chess, D Gukesh, acknowledges the grand achievement of Divya Deshmukh, who recently won the FIDE Women's World Cup in Batumi. read more In a span of just two years, Indian chess has soared to the exosphere. Whether it's the Olympiad, the World Championship, or the FIDE World Cup, the Indian flag is flying high in every aspect of the Chess bloc. After D Gukesh's historic World Championship victory, all eyes are on Divya Deshmukh, who is making similar strides in the women's category. The 19-year-old recently clinched the FIDE Women's World Cup, held in Batumi, Georgia, and qualified for the Candidates tournament. Moreover, she also completed the last norm required to become a Grandmaster and claimed the title in the best way possible. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Gukesh acknowledges Divya's massive achievement As class often recognises class, Divya's ascension has been noted by Gukesh, who also had a few things to say about the achievement of India's newest Grandmaster. 'We (Gukesh and Divya) basically grew up together. We played in the same tournaments right from when we were eight or nine years old. The way Divya won the World Cup was really inspiring. It is not easy to win the tournament, you have to play regularly for a month. I have played the World Cup two times, so I know how difficult it is to win,' Gukesh said in a Velammal Nexus event that was organised to felicitate Mount Everest conqueror Ashish. 'Both of them (Divya and losing finalist, veteran Koneru Humpy) played amazingly well. For Indian chess, it is important that we have good results in both men (open) and women." Having played the FIDE World Cup twice, World Champion Gukesh will aim to win the whole thing when he takes part in the tournament, slated to take place later in the year in India. 'For sure, I will take part in the World Cup. I am really excited and looking forward to it. In chess, we do not have many knockout events, so the World Cup is the biggest knockout tournament. After the Olympiad (in 2022), India hosting a big event is important for Indian chess,' added Gukesh, who will be gunning for his maiden WC trophy. Given Divya has already bagged the prize, India will complete a World Cup double should Gukesh or any other contender from India go on to win the competition.

Alex Ovechkin reflects on breaking Wayne Gretzky's goal record, says the moment hasn't fully sunk in yet
Alex Ovechkin isn't quite ready to look back breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goals record (Image via Katie Adler/RMNB) While Alex Ovechkin recently eclipsed Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goals record, he's not dwelling on the monumental achievement. The 39-year-old hockey icon, who now has 895 career goals, is singularly focused on the present. He's saving the emotional reflection for when he retires, with one more season remaining on his current contract with the Washington Capitals. Alex Ovechkin reflects on surpassing Wayne Gretzky's record Alex Ovechkin, the celebrated 39-year-old hockey star, hasn't fully clutched the significance of breaking the NHL's all-time goals record. He remains focused on the present, phrasing, "The realization of the record will come when I finish my career." For him, reflection is a luxury for the future; for now, his singular focus is on the games ahead, not the milestones behind him. Even after his record-breaking achievement, Ovechkin remains focused on his active career, articulating, "Mine is still going on." He credited his incredible support system, acknowledging, "I understand that thanks to my family, father, mother, wife, friends, team, I did it." His journey is a testament to both his skill and the resolute support of those around him. The profound emotional significance of the record-breaking moment has yet to fully land for Ovechkin, who noted, "I will cry later." When pressed about his future with the Capitals as his current contract approaches its end, he was evasive, stating, "A year will pass, and we will think about it." This forward-looking perspective underscores his dedication to the present, not past victories. Remaining noncommittal about his future, Ovechkin articulated, "We will live and see." His career approach remains consistent: he takes things one game and one shift at a time. This mentality, which helped him pursue the record, continues to guide him today, focusing his attention on the present moment rather than the future. Also Read: Connor McDavid Trade Bombshell to the Bruins: NHL insiders say it could guarantee a Stanley Cup win With the heart of a true competitor, Ovechkin's focus is on the present, not on the past records he's broken. A sentimental wedding filled with personal touches and famous friends Beyond the A-list guest list, Selena also revealed that her wedding will include a deeply personal touch — the dessert.
