485 people are currently on Nipah virus contact list in Kerala, says Health Minister Veena George

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], July 8 (ANI): Health Minister Veena George on Tuesday informed that a total of 485 people are currently on the Nipah virus contact list in Kerala as containment measures intensify across districts, according to the official statement.
According to the Health Department, Malappuram district has 192 contacts under observation, followed by Palakkad with 176, Kozhikode with 114, Ernakulam with 2, and Kannur with 1.
In Malappuram, 18 people are receiving treatment, with one patient in ICU care. So far, 42 samples from the district have tested negative for Nipah virus. In Palakkad, 3 individuals remain in isolation, with 7 samples confirmed negative to date, as per the release.
In a statement, Statewide, 26 individuals have been classified as highest risk, while 117 are in the high-risk category and are under strict monitoring. The confirmed Nipah patient from Palakkad continues to undergo treatment in the ICU in Kozhikode.
A high-level meeting was held to assess the situation, attended by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, the NHM State Mission Director, the Directors of Health Services and Medical Education, Additional Directors, District Collectors, District Medical Officers, and senior officials from various departments.
Earlier in the day, George chaired a review meeting regarding the prevention of the Nipah virus at the Collectorate Conference Hall in Malappuram.
There are 461 people in the Nipah contact list, out of which 27 people are at a high risk, Health Minister Veena George said.
Health Minister Veena George on Monday said, 'There are currently 461 people in the Nipah contact list in the state. Out of these, 252 are from the Malappuram district and 209 are from the Palakkad district. 27 people are on the high-risk list. They are undergoing treatment in Malappuram, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Ernakulam districts.'
The minister added, 'Out of 48 people in the contact list, 46 have tested negative. Out of these, 23 are in Manjeri Medical College and 23 in Kozhikode.'
She added that the people on the high-risk list are in quarantine, and all persons on the list have been found. (ANI)

Hyderabad: The government on Tuesday appointed administrative officers including principals and superintendents for medical colleges in the State and also taken a decision to promote 44 senior professors as additional directors of Medical Education. This is a significant decision by the government as it has been taken for the first time after the formation of Telangana. The government issued the GO in this regard on Tuesday. All of them have been appointed as Principals of government medical colleges and Superintendents of teaching hospitals across the state. The process of promoting 308 people working as associate professors to professors has reached its final stage. In the wake of the completion of the ADME posting process, the government would soon give postings to those promoted as professors, said the official. With these promotions, the problem of shortage of professors and department HODs in all colleges will be solved. The Health Department has initiated steps to promote about 278 assistant professors to associate professors. Since there was no possibility of direct recruitment for posts like Associate Professor, Professor, Additional DME, these posts are being filled through promotions. The Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board had recently issued a notification to directly fill 607 assistant professor posts. In addition, the Finance Department has approved the filling of about 714 more posts. These posts will also be filled soon. The professors promoted above, have been asked to join the promotion post within a period of 15 days from the date of receipt of the orders of promotion. If they fail to join the new post within the said time limit or evade joining the post by proceeding on leave, they shall forfeit their promotion for the current panel year in terms of Rule 11 (b) of TS State and Subordinate Service Rules, 1996. 6. The Director of Medical Education has been asked to take necessary action to relieve the officers with immediate effect, by making internal arrangements.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 7 (ANI): In view of the upcoming Kanwar Yatra starting July 10, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a high-level meeting with police officials on Tuesday to review law and order, disaster-preparedness, and public safety measures. During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the strict implementation of the verification campaign across all districts and emphasised tight surveillance at the state borders. He also instructed officials to continue action against illegal encroachments and ensure a seamless and safe experience for Kanwar pilgrims. 'Monitoring should be ensured through CCTV and drones on the Kanwar Yatra route, and the traffic control system should be made effective,' Dhami said while addressing police officers and administrative heads. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure the availability of heli-ambulance services to deal with emergency situations during the yatra. He also emphasised strengthening women's safety mechanisms, along with real-time monitoring of public grievance redressal systems. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of continuous tracking of complaint resolutions to build public trust and accountability. CM Dhami called for the effective implementation of the zero-tolerance policy against drug addiction and illegal substances. 'Work effectively on the policy of zero tolerance against drug addiction and drugs,' he instructed, while also appealing to the officers to enhance coordination between departments during the yatra. Earlier, under the leadership of CM Dhami and Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat, the Health Department has prepared a strict and dedicated action plan to provide pure and safe food to lakhs of devotees during the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, a statement said. Special teams of food safety officers have been deployed in Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri and Uttarkashi districts. These teams will regularly take samples of milk, sweets, oil, spices, beverages, etc., from the pandals and send them to laboratories for testing. If any sample does not meet the standards, the concerned place will be closed immediately, the statement said. The Yatra is scheduled to get underway on July 10. In the Kanwar Yatra procession, Kanwariyas collect water from a river and carry it hundreds of kilometres to offer it to the shrines of Lord Shiva. Devotees across the country perform worship, fasting and pilgrimage dedicated to the Lord Shiva. (ANI)
