Longhorns catcher Rylan Galvan adds to his trophy case
While the Longhorns 2025 campaign is over, honors are still rolling in. The latest Longhorn to add some hardware to their trophy case is catcher Rylan Galvan, who has been named an All-American. After a career year, Galvan's latest award comes as no surprise.
During his junior season, Galvan appeared in 56 games and was an anchor in the Longhorns lineup. He set career highs in home runs with 15, RBI with 47, and hits with 55. For the third straight year, the Texas native set new career highs in games played and took his play to another level.
This is not the first time Galvan has made headlines since the Longhorns' regular season ended. Last week, he was named a finalist for the Buster Poset Award. Each year, the award is given to the best catcher in Division 1 baseball. The Longhorns star will know his fate for that honor by the end of the month.
Whenever Galvan was in the lineup, Texas had a bat that could make a difference and a catcher pitchers could trust. He caught nine runners stealing and only committed four errors. The Sinton High School product finished the 2025 campaign with a .992 fielding percentage.
Due to his stellar season, Galvan's stock is on the rise. He only has one year left of eligibility and has the potential to be a very good star at the next level. Regardless of what the future holds, he has made the most of his time at Texas while continually earning national recognition for his play.

Few of the players seemed to be in a festive mood, however. That's because the Dodgers warmed up for Family Day with a 6-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, the team's third straight loss and the 10th in 12 games in which they've been outscored 71-36. It's the team's worst 12-game skid since 2018. The loss was also the sixth in as many tries against the Brewers in the last two weeks, making Milwaukee the first team to sweep a season series of more than four games from the Dodgers in 20 years. 'Guys are getting frustrated,' manager Dave Roberts said. 'You see kind of more emotion coming in. We just haven't played good baseball.' But it gets worse: the Dodgers (58-42) might have lost first baseman Freddie Freeman for a spell. Freeman, who is among the team leaders in batting average (.292) and is third in runs (47) and hits (95), sustained a left wrist contusion after being hit by a José Quintana pitch in the sixth inning. Roberts said X-rays on Freeman's wrist were negative and the first baseman is considered day to day. 'That one, I held my breath,' Roberts said. 'I think we all did, because, you know, when you're scuffling and to potentially lose a guy for four-to-six weeks is obviously very scary.' Derrek Cooper, No. 1 RB in 2026, commits to Texas
Derrek Cooper, the top-ranked running in the Class of 2026 by ESPN, committed to Texas on Sunday night. Cooper, a native of Hollywood, Fla., chose the Longhorns over finalists Florida State, Georgia, Miami and Ohio State. A two-way player for Chaminade-Madonna Prep listed at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Cooper is listed in the athlete category by the 247Sports Composite, where he is a five-star ranked No. 29 overall in the class and No. 2 in Florida. Cooper joins a star-studded freshman class for Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns next year.
