David Letterman had something to say after the Stephen Colbert cancellation
Letterman posted a video and a quip this week, seemingly in response to news that CBS would be ending 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' in May 2026.
Letterman shared a montage of the many times he had roasted his own netwrok over the years, when he was still working for CBS. Colbert succeeded Letterman as host of 'The Late Show' in 2014, following Letterman's 22-year run.
'You can't spell CBS without BS,' the caption on the video reads.
The two men have been friends for years and have been guests on each other's shows.
While CBS cited financial reasons for the cancellation, there have been questions about the timing of the announcement amid the pending sale of Paramount, the parent company of CBS, which requires approval from federal regulators and Colbert's previous criticism of President Donald Trump.
Fellow comedians have rallied around Colbert since the news. Comedy Central's Jon Stewart, HBO's John Oliver, and NBC's Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon appeared in Colbert's audience on Monday.
'Some people see this show going away as a sign of something truly dire,' Colbert said Monday night.
'While I am a big fan of me, I don't necessarily agree with that statement,' he continued. 'Because we here at 'The Late Show' never saw our job as changing anything other than how you felt at the end of the day.'

Travis Kelce showed up to Chiefs camp with a dramatically different haircut
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has gone through numerous hair eras during his career. Last season, he grew his hair out (at Taylor Swift's urging, according to Patrick Mahomes). And he showed up to the first days of Chiefs training camp this week with even longer hair. That changed on Sunday, though. It looks like the fade is back for the future Hall of Famer. When the Chiefs took the field for Sunday's practice session, fans noticed that Kelce ditched the long hair in favor of the haircut he went with in the 2023 season. Yes, the long hair is officially gone. The fade worked out well for Kelce in 2023, so it makes sense. ‘Wizard of Oz' blown up by AI for giant Sphere screen
In Brief The massive Las Vegas venue known as Sphere will be screening its first classic movie, 'The Wizard of Oz,' starting on August 28. And as detailed in a segment on CBS Sunday Morning, this isn't just a matter of taking the existing movie and projecting it on Sphere's 160,000 square foot, wraparound LED screen. Instead, Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan said a 2,000-person team is creating a new experience. That includes using AI to both increase the resolution of the existing film and expand the footage beyond the frame of what was actually shot. For example, Turner Classic Movie presenter Ben Mankiewicz said that through the use of AI, 'a grainy close-up of Dorothy becomes richly detailed, and then through a process called outpainting — though it seems like magic — we see the rest of the Scarecrow, the Yellow Brick Road, and the mountains of Oz.' In other cases, expanding the frame means creating new performances from the existing actors. Despite these changes, Dolan said, 'Our standard on this was not to modify the film at all but to try and bring you into the film, as if you were in the studio when it was shot.'
