He succeeds Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, who will assume his new role as director of the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) on July 21.
The handover-of-duties ceremony took place at the Dewan D'Cerana, Selangor contingent police headquarters (IPK), and was witnessed by Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Management Department director, Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid.
In his speech, Hussein expressed gratitude to the PDRM leadership for their trust and support during his two years and five months at the helm, highlighting key achievements, such as a 12 per cent reduction in the crime index last year and the successful foiling of major drug smuggling attempts, involving seizures worth hundreds of millions of ringgit.
He said that, between 2023 and 2024, Selangor police seized over 10 tonnes of drugs, worth RM300 million, a move which prevented the narcotics from reaching more than 21 million potential users.
'The Selangor contingent recorded 22,000 arrests in 2023, a figure which rose to 40,000 in 2024. Meanwhile, the state Commercial Crime Investigation Department opened investigation papers on 7,115 cases in 2023, involving losses of RM510 million, compared with 7,731 cases in 2024, with losses amounting to RM680 million,' he said.
Hussein added that traffic enforcement issued 1.06 million summonses in 2023, generating RM135.7 million in collections, while in 2024, 1.13 million summonses were issued, with collections totalling RM128 million.
He said that these achievements reflect the unwavering dedication and teamwork of every officer, personnel, and civil servant, who formed the backbone of the force's success. — Bernama

'So far some 2,000 suspects have been arrested,' he said, adding that the suspects include Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Indian nationals. Neth Preaktra said the government wants to make the country 'no safe haven for online scammers' and 'will dismantle every scam network no matter where they hide'. At least 226 Chinese nationals were among the detained suspects, according to a police report, which said some ringleaders would face prosecution in Cambodia while most others will be expelled. The justice ministry also said it had suspended one prosecutor pending an investigation after he released several cybercrime suspects. Abuses in Cambodia's scam centres are happening on a 'mass scale', Amnesty International said in a report published last month. There are at least 53 scam compounds in Cambodia where organised criminal groups carry out human trafficking, forced labour, child labour, torture, deprivation of liberty and slavery, the report said. Many of those freed from Southeast Asian scam centres say they were trafficked or lured there under false pretences. In March, Cambodia deported 119 Thais – among 230 foreign nationals detained during raids on alleged cyber scam centres in Poipet city.

In a statement, it said the individual was called in for questioning at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters at 2.30pm. A mobile phone and SIM card were seized as part of the investigation. MCMC said it views the spread of false and offensive content involving the judiciary seriously, and warned that any misuse of social media in such a manner could erode public trust and disrupt national harmony. It also said firm action will be taken under the law. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, relating to the improper use of network facilities or services, and provides for a fine of up to RM500,000, up to two years in prison, or both, upon conviction. Last night, the office of the chief registrar announced that Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh had been appointed the new chief justice, replacing Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, who retired earlier this month. In a statement, the office said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong also consented to the appointments of Abu Bakar Jais as Court of Appeal president, and Azizah Nawawi as chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak. All three will be sworn in and presented with their letters of appointment at Istana Negara on July 28.

The commission said that the individual's statement was recorded at 2.30pm at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters and a mobile phone and SIM card were seized to assist in investigations. 'MCMC views the spread of fake content touching the integrity of the country's judicial institution seriously. Misuse of social media for such purposes can affect public confidence and the country's public order. 'Stern action will be taken according to existing legal provisions,' the commission said in a statement today. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 that stipulates a maximum fine of RM500,000 or two years' jail or both if found guilty. — Bernama
