Rosary was ranked No. 11 in the Southern Section power rankings coming in. Now the Fullerton school is 16-2-1 and should get a big bump. The bats came alive by scoring eight runs in four consecutive wins over Roosevelt, Los Alamitos, Fullerton and Orange Lutheran.
Jenna Caldera is the leading the team in hitting with 33 hits and a .524 batting average. . . .
Corona, Huntington Beach and La Mirada are headed to Cary, N.C., to compete in the National High School Baseball Invitational that begins on Wednesday.
USC picked up a commitment from junior running back Deshonne Redeaux.

MLB draft: Pitcher Seth Hernandez goes No. 6 to the Pittsburgh Pirates
Seth Hernandez has imagined his name being announced for years at the MLB amateur draft. It finally happened Sunday. The Gatorade national player of the year and two-time L.A. Times player of the year from Corona High School was chosen No. 6 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates have been successful with Southern California pitchers, having drafted Gerrit Cole (Orange Lutheran), Paul Skenes (El Toro) and Jared Jones (La Mirada) in the past. Hernandez was considered the best right-handed high school pitcher in the draft after a sensational senior season in which he struck out 105 batters in 53 1/3 innings while walking only seven using a 99-mph fastball. His ERA was 0.39. All signs indicate he'll become the latest from a long list of outstanding pitchers groomed in sunny Southern California to make it to the majors. That includes Cy Young Award winners Jack McDowell (Sherman Oaks Notre Dame), Cole (Orange Lutheran) and Bret Saberhagen (Cleveland) and current standouts Skenes, Hunter Greene (Sherman Oaks Notre Dame) and Max Fried (Harvard-Westlake). He's also a top athlete having hit two three-run home runs in a playoff game this year. His coach at Corona, Andy Wise, said he has coached no one better. Hernandez missed his first two years of high school being home schooled. The last two seasons his pitching record was 18-1. He has a very good slider and changeup. He's uniquely ready for the pressure and exposure ahead, having been watched closely for years by scouts and interviewed over and over. High school shortstop Eli Willits from Oklahoma was taken No. 1 by the Washington Nationals.

Millikan gets revenge against Calabasas, wins California Live BallerTV bracket
Millikan's 2024-25 season culminated in a CIF-Southern Section 2AA playoff appearance – and a lopsided first round loss to Calabasas. However, the Rams got an early start on getting revenge during the last weekend of June with help from their newest star. Blue chip incoming freshman Quali Giran led Millikan with 20 points to beat Calabasas 84-65 in the BallerTV bracket finals for a California Live 2025 title. Jeremiah Hunt had 18 points for Millikan – which was his nightly average as a junior – and JoJo Wicker added 14. Between Giran, Hunt, and Wicker, Millikan projects to have one of the more formidable backcourts in L.A. If new stars emerge outside the Rams' big three, the team could have quite a bit of upside for 2025-26. Advertisement Grayson Coleman had a game-high 27 points for Calabasas. RELATED:

Jaden Bailes, JSerra win California Live Grip Spritz bracket title
Get ready for yet another big year from JSerra boys basketball. Despite graduating impact seniors such as BJ Davis-Ray and Grayson Sinek, the Lions look like a CIF-Southern Section Open Division playoff team once again. With returning senior Brannon Martinsen and St. Augustine senior transfer Jaiden Bailes leading the way, JSerra handled fellow CIF-SS Open Division team Redondo Union 69-56 to cap off a title run at California Live 2025 in the Grip Spritz bracket. Bailes had 31 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals, and Martinsen added 11 points. Before that, JSerra opened with a 68-33 rout of Riverside Poly, a 57-55 win over St. Joseph (Santa Maria), and a 73-66 victory against Corona Centennial. Advertisement The rest of the bracket had many more big-name programs: Archbishop Riordan, La Mirada, Cathedral Catholic, San Joaquin Memorial, Archbishop Mitty, Sunnyslope (AZ), Olympian, Central Catholic, Destiny Christian, San Joaquin Memorial, Mission Bay, Fairmont Prep, and Mountain Pointe (AZ).
