New Delhi: If the need arises to destroy the nuclear weapons of Pakistan, how will India accomplish this mission? America has shown the perfect way to do this in the 12-day war between Israel and Iran. The US Air Force's B-2 Spirit stealth bomber jets dropped 14000 kg bunker buster bombs on Iran's three nuclear bases, Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan and destroyed them. Due to the bunker buster bomb attack, Iran's nuclear programme has been set back by several years. What is the way to counter Pakistan's nuclear threat?
The leaders of Pakistan often threaten nuclear attack. Imagine if such a situation arises that Pakistan's nuclear weapons and its bases have to be destroyed to establish peace in the region, what will India do? The US attack on Iran's nuclear bases has also shown India the way. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has started working on developing a bunker buster system. India will also soon have an ultra-modern and one of the most lethal and effective bunker buster systems in the world. No timeline has been given, but it is expected that this system will be developed soon. What happened during Operation Sindoor?
India shares its border with Pakistan in the west and China in the east and north and both China and Pakistan are nuclear weapon-rich countries. During Operation Sindoor, India punished Pakistan as the Indian Air Force attacked its 11 airbases and caused extensive damage to them. The strategically important Noor Khan airbase was also targeted. Pakistan's nuclear base is at Kirana Hills, a short distance from this airbase. It is said that Pakistan has hidden its stockpile of nuclear weapons at underground facilities, so the attack on Noor Khan airbase shook the foundations of the Pakistan government and army.
India felt the lack of bunker buster system very badly but now work has started to overcome this deficiency. DRDO's Bunker Buster Project
In view of the global environment, India has now started working vigorously towards developing a bunker buster system. DRDO is developing a bunker buster missile system. For this, the intercontinental ballistic missile Agni-5 is being modified. Let us tell you that Agni-5 is a hypersonic ballistic missile capable of hitting a distance of more than 5500 kilometers. Reports say that DRDO is now developing a bunker buster missile version of Agni-5 missile. Under this, while its range will be reduced on one hand, the capacity of the conventional warhead payload will be increased manifold, so that sufficient amount of ordnance is available to destroy the underground targets. What is speculated capacity of Indian bunker buster?
According to the information, the bunker buster missile version of Agni-5 will be able to penetrate 80 to 100 meters inside the ground and strike. This means that military bases or nuclear weapons depots located 80 to 100 meters inside the ground can be destroyed. Agni-5 bunker buster missile will be able to move towards the target and destroy it at a hypersonic speed of 8 to 24 Mach. In this way, the bunker buster version of Agni-5 will wreak havoc on the enemies at a speed of 9878 to 24696 kilometers per hour. Agni-5 bunker buster missile is capable of carrying 7500 to 8000 payloads (capacity to carry weapons). Due to the high payload, its range will be reduced to 2500 kilometers, so that it can reach the target and destroy the target.

Syama Prasad Mookerjee symbolised unwavering commitment to India's integrity: Arunachal Guv

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd) said on Sunday that Syama Prasad Mookerjee was a shining example of unwavering commitment to India's integrity, cultural pride, and democratic values. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla highlighted Mookerjee's immense contributions to nation-building. Addressing the commemoration of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Mookerjee in Itanagar, the Arunachal Pradesh Governor passionately addressed the youth of the northeastern state, declaring them the torchbearers of Mookerjee's vision. He affirmed that their strength is in their talent and capacity to dream big for their community, state, and country. The Governor urged the youth of the state to embrace deep pride in their traditional heritage, art, culture, land, and languages, while simultaneously showing equal courage in excelling across science, sports, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Lt. Gen Parnaik said that Mookerjee was far more than a political figure. He was a visionary, an esteemed educationist, and a courageous nation-builder driven by a profound belief in 'One India, Great India'. He founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951, laying the ideological groundwork for national unity and integrity at a time when the country was still healing from partition. The Governor recounted Mookerjee's unwavering opposition to Article 370 and his powerful call for "One Country, One Head, One Flag, One Constitution" in 1953, a stance that marked a pivotal moment in Indian political history. He noted that this very dream of equality, national integration, and constitutional unity was realised under the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with the abrogation of Article 370 and the full integration of Jammu and Kashmir into the Indian Union. Recalling the pivotal role of Mookerjee in the Constituent Assembly, the Governor said that he persistently advocated for minority rights and the preservation of regional languages to ensure a Constitution acceptable and applicable to all communities. In Imphal, Manipur Governor Bhalla, on the occasion, described Mookerjee as a towering figure in the history of modern India, a distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, visionary leader, and an intellectual of remarkable stature. As one of the key architects of independent India, Mookerjee played a significant role in shaping the country's political and educational landscape, the Governor said. He was also a strong advocate for national integration and worked tirelessly to uphold the unity and integrity of the nation. The Governor also recalled Mookerjee's pivotal role in the integration of Jammu and Kashmir. His firm stance was encapsulated in his well-known statement: 'Ek deshmein do Vidhan, do Nishan, do Pradhan nahichalenge' — reflecting his unwavering commitment to the principle of one nation, one constitution. Bhalla appealed to everyone to remember and draw inspiration from Mookerjee's legacy of selfless service, unwavering commitment to national unity, and fearless pursuit of constitutional integrity.

BJP government eroding autonomy of Assam tribal councils, says Gaurav Gogoi

GUWAHATI Assam Congress president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday (July 5, 2025) alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Assam was systematically eroding the autonomy of the tribal councils functioning under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. He held Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma primarily responsible for 'undermining the spirit' of these autonomous councils, rather than upholding their constitutional mandate. Also Read | Indian Government has in principle agreed to strengthen Sixth Schedule Councils: Pramod Boro Mr. Gogoi said the BJP-led government was 'remotely controlling' the constitutional powers granted to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), which spans five districts in western and north-central Assam; the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), covering two districts in central Assam; and the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), which administers the Dima Hasao district. 'Power was decentralised to the BTC, KAAC, and NCHAC during the 15-year tenure of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, as the Sixth Schedule was intended to ensure administrative and financial autonomy for these regions,' Mr. Gogoi told journalists in Diphu, the headquarters of Karbi Anglong district. 'The people of these regions should have the authority to make decisions regarding their development. Authority should not be confined to Delhi or Dispur (the State capital); it must extend to the councils,' he said. Also Read | Concern over push for Adani power project in Assam 'However, under the current regime, all decision-making powers are centralised in the hands of the Chief Minister. The councils are being remote-controlled from Dispur, with the Chief Minister making unilateral decisions, keeping the council chiefs sidelined,' he added. Mr. Gogoi further alleged that Mr. Sarma was acting like a 'real estate broker' by allocating thousands of acres of land belonging to indigenous communities to corporate houses.

Guntur Lok Adalat resolves 1,076 civil cases in a day, sets national benchmark

In a historic feat for the Indian judiciary, the Guntur District Lok Adalat has set a national record by resolving 1,076 civil cases in a single day during the National Lok Adalat held across Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. In addition to civil disputes, the Lok Adalat successfully disposed of 11,636 criminal cases, primarily involving compoundable offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including pending non-bailable warrant (NBW) cases dating back to 2015 and 2016. B. Sai Kalyan Chakravarthi, Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority and Principal District and Sessions Judge, attributed the district's exemplary performance to the robust mediation system adopted by the Lok Adalat. He noted that compensation totalling ₹51 crore was awarded to victims, largely from motor accident claims and civil settlements. A high-profile case involved the family of Dr. K. Sridhar, who died in a 2024 road accident near Piduguralla. Their ₹5 crore claim against Tata General Insurance was amicably settled at ₹1.4 crore. Two other cases fetched compensation of ₹1.1 crore and ₹70 lakh, respectively. Guntur now stands as a national model in legal dispute resolution, he said.
