F1 American Explosion: Another Record Falls in Canada, Proving the Hype is Real
There are a growing number of F1 fanatics in the United States, with more and more of you climbing on board each week. If you've been following the Formula 1 season, you know the buzz around its growth in the U.S. is palpable. Well, guess what? The latest television viewership numbers from the Canadian Grand Prix are in, and they're not just good – they're record-breaking, adding yet another bullet point to the undeniable story of F1's booming popularity stateside. Advertisement Related: Final F1 movie trailer ignites anticipation ahead of June release Canadian Grand Prix sets new record for viewers in the U.S. Credit: David Kirouac-Imagn Images The recent race in Montreal, broadcast live on ABC on Sunday, June 15, pulled in an astonishing 1.9 million viewers for the race-only portion. That's not just a significant number, it's the largest audience ever for the Canadian Grand Prix on U.S. television, even surpassing last year's record of 1.8 million. And for those tracking the future of the sport, the demographic numbers are equally encouraging, with 854,000 viewers in the crucial 18-49 age bracket tuning in. Even Saturday's qualifying session on ESPN2 snagged a respectable 593,000 viewers. This success wasn't a fluke. The favorable North American time slot, kicking off at 2 PM Eastern Daylight Time, meant many U.S. fans could watch the high-octane action in prime daylight hours, without setting early alarms or staying up late. This accessible timing, combined with the exciting on-track action, clearly resonated with American audiences. Out of nine F1 races so far this season, all but one have seen year-over-year viewership increases, and five of them – Australia, China, Monaco, Spain, and Canada – have set event records. The Monaco Grand Prix alone drew the third-largest live audience ever for a Formula 1 race on U.S. television. Overall, F1 races are now averaging a robust 1.3 million viewers across ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC, a solid 6% jump year-over-year for the season-to-date. The younger 18-49 demographic is seeing even steeper growth, up 13% over the season-to-date average. Advertisement The momentum is undeniable. With the Austrian Grand Prix up next on June 29, F1 continues to cement its place as a major player in the American sports landscape. ‘News flash from Fla': Beloved soap star updates fans on mysterious absence
Kin Shriner is on the mend in South Florida. Last month, the 'General Hospital' star notified fans that he'd left the beloved soap opera, where he started his career as Scotty Baldwin in 1977. On X, he showed a picture of his dressing room door, with another actor's name (Jens Astrup) on the placard. Scotty hadn't been on the long running ABC show since August 2024, and viewers were definitely wondering what was up. Seems like a health problem may have sidelined the actor. Shriner, 71, took to X again around two weeks later, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, outside the Powerhouse Gym. 'News flash from Fla,' began the post, along with a video. In the clip, he revealed he's been dealing with a foot issue since last summer after a 'botched' surgery. He says the medical procedure was a subtalar fusion, which involves fusing the heel bone to the talus bone to stabilize the foot. 'Scotty [sic] not just eating glazed donuts, he's working hard to fix foot and get back to Vespa and all other things!!!!!!' the native New Yorker wrote. 'For six months, I basically couldn't walk,' said the TV vet, adding his old pal John Stamos hooked him up with a specialist in L.A. to repair the problem. Shriner joked he was doing so much work to improve his current situation that he's getting 'attendance records' at the gym. 'You gotta get it back,' he says to the camera. 'Something goes wrong, you fix it, or you try to. Anyway, that's what I've been up to, so stay tuned. I will be mobile. Soon. Very soon.' One possible reason Shriner may have traveled to South Florida for physical therapy is to be near his twin brother, 'Hoot' director Wil Shriner, who has lived in the city for years.

Extraordinary True Story Of Erin Patterson & The Deadly Poisonous Mushrooms To Be Told In ABC Australia Drama Series
EXCLUSIVE: The extraordinary true story of Erin Patterson, who stands accused of murdering her guests with poisonous mushrooms, is being turned into a TV drama for Australia's ABC. Toxic will follow the twists and turns of a high-profile murder investigation of intrigue that has generated headlines around the world. Elise McCredie (Jack Irish) and Tony Ayres (The Survivors) are creating the series and Ayres' Universal International Studios-backed indie will produce. Described as an 'intricate series that explores the events and characters of this true-life story without judgement,' the show will involve multiple timelines and numerous perspectives. More from Deadline 'Nine Perfect Strangers' Season 2 Ending Explained: It's All About Connections Joaquin Phoenix Suggests 'Beau Is Afraid' Filmgoers 'Not Take Mushrooms' Quinta Brunson Is "Looking Forward" To Roles Beyond 'Abbott Elementary' Patterson was charged with multiple counts of murder after three of her guests died and a fourth spent months in hospital following a lunch where she served them beef wellington that contained the toxic 'Death Cap' mushroom. Patterson has pleaded not guilty and has always maintained that the incident was a horrible, tragic accident, and the new show announcement comes with the defendant back in the press as the jury in her murder trial deliberates. Earlier this week, the ABC spoke to people who have effectively put their lives on hold in order to spend every day at the months-long trial. The barely believable story has amassed mega press interest due to more than a dollop of intrigue around what appears to have been an intense family feud, and it has felt only a matter of time before the events were re-told via TV drama. Working closely with ABC journalist and podcaster Rachael Brown, Tony Ayres Productions is developing the series for the ABC. Ayres said: 'True stories ask storytellers to probe the complexities of human behaviour. What really lies beneath the headlines? It's both a challenge and a responsibility to go beyond the surface – to reveal, not just sensationalise.' McCredie described the events as a 'tangled, heart-breaking story.' 'Sitting in on the trial, watching evidence unfurl, change direction, and reposition itself has been an exercise in the subjectivity of 'truth' and a blueprint for a dramatic retelling that explores multiple perspectives in an honest and compelling way,' she added. Toxic will be produced by Tony Ayres Productions (The Survivors, Fires, Clickbait, Stateless), which is backed by Matchbox Pictures and Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group. Casting is incoming soon. All eyes turn to who will play Patterson.
