Focus on reducing chemical fertilisers by 11%
The Chief Minister has directed a reduction of 4 lakh metric tonnes, bringing the target consumption down to 32.5 lakh metric tonnes. To achieve this goal, the Department of Agriculture has formulated a comprehensive action plan under the theme 'Back to the Roots,' focusing on partially replacing chemical fertilizers with organic alternatives. Director Dilli Rao emphasised the detrimental effects of the indiscriminate use of nitrogen-based fertilizers, particularly urea in crops like paddy and maize. To ensure widespread awareness and adoption, the department is intensifying its outreach efforts through wall charts, pamphlets, posters and mass outreach programmes under the 'Polam Pilustondi' initiative.
With the Kharif season already underway, the Director urged all field-level agricultural officers to actively engage with farmers and diligently promote the 11 percent reduction target in chemical fertilizer usage. Additional Director VV Vijayalakshmi, ATMA Director Prasad, Joint Director (Fertilizers) Krupadas, Deputy Director G Venkateswara Rao, DD Planning Swarna Vijaya, and other departmental personnel were present.

In a political landscape where idealism often surrenders to ambition, Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao (1926-1997) stands out as a icon of honesty, simplicity and unwavering commitment to Gandhian values. Fondly known as 'Diviseema Gandhi', he transformed politics into a platform for service and compassion. 'His father Mandali Venkat Ramayya, a teacher and a social thinker, laid the foundation for his moral values and intellectual depth by creating the right environment at home,' said R. Mallikarjuna Rao, Director, Department of Language and Culture. To pay tributes to the 'messiah of the poor' on the occasion of his birth centenary on August 4, Mr. Rao painted a portrait of Krishna Rao, who once aspired to become a teacher, but the call of the freedom movement led him into public life. Recalling his student days, Mr. Rao said that by the time he reached high school in Avanigadda, young Krishna Rao had started reading Gandhi's publications like 'Young India' and 'Harijan', sowing the seeds of a lifelong mission for rural upliftment and social reform. In 1975, he played a pivotal role in organising the first World Telugu Conference, connecting Telugus across the globe. His vision also led to the establishment of the International Telugu Centre in Hyderabad, reinforcing the global relevance of Telugu language and culture. 'Perhaps the most defining moment of his life came in the aftermath of the 1977 Diviseema cyclone, a catastrophic disaster that devastated the region,' recalls Mr. Rao, adding that Venkata Krishna Rao, then a Cabinet Minister, resigned from his post to lead relief operations on the ground. 'Disregarding protocol, he waded through flood-hit villages, consoled survivors, fed the hungry, and comforted grieving families. His selfless actions earned him eternal reverence and the title Diviseema Gandhi.' To honour his legacy, centenary celebrations of Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao are being held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada on August 4. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will be the chief guest.

Govt. not strengthening Panchayat Raj system, charges BJP chief
The BJP has flayed the Congress government for not taking steps to strengthen the gram panchayat system in Telangana by not disbursing funds on time. In this aspect, it is no different from the previous BRS government, which has destroyed the PR system, maintained party president N. Ramchander Rao on Sunday. Addressing a meeting at Sriramnagar village in Moinabad mandal as part of the ongoing public contact programme taken up by the party, Mr. Rao claimed that development of villages and their welfare is possible only through the BJP once it comes to power to form a double engine government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced several schemes for the growth and prosperity of the villages, including providing free foodgrains, housing, gas connection, medical insurance, toilets, loans to self-help groups promoted by the womenfolk, supporting entrepreneurship and so on, he said. The works under way in the villages like building of internal roads, farmers contact centres, toilets, streetlights, burial/cremation grounds, plantation activities and others, are being taken up through the funds disbursed by the Central government, claimed the BJP leader. Mr. Rao has pointed out that the Centre has been disbursing ₹6,000 per acre to each farmer irrespective of the land holdings every year per acre under the 'Kisan Samman Nidhi', thereby providing direct financial assistance to them. The party chief instructed the cadre to ensure that the Centre's assistance to gram panchayats on various welfare and development schemes is propagated and taken to the people. The former MLC appealed to the people to support the party candidates in the local body polls for a real change in the fortunes of the villages and the livelihoods of people.s

He accused the regime of "weakening institutions" such as Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs), e-crop registration, and soil testing the death of over 250 farmers by suicide, which he attributed to the government's "declining support," Reddy alleged even basic relief had not been extended to the affected accused the administration of showing "inhumanity and a lack of empathy". There was no immediate response from the ruling TDP.
