Woman, male friend held over murder of two newborns in Kerala

THRISSUR: Police on Sunday arrested a 23-year-old woman and her male friend in connection with the murder of their two newborns over the past four years in Thrissur.
The arrests followed a dramatic turn of events on Saturday night when Bhavin, 25, in a highly intoxicated state, walked into the Puthukkad police station carrying a bag containing skeletal remains, reportedly of two infants.
According to police, Bhavin, a native of Amballur, told the officers that his girlfriend, Aneesha, had killed their babies.
Thrissur Rural SP B Krishnakumar said: 'The police officers were shocked. The Chalakudy DySP called me immediately. We took swift action to verify Bhavin's claim that his girlfriend had killed the babies.'
A team was constituted at midnight to investigate the case, and Aneesha, 23, the babies' mother, was also taken into custody.
During interrogation, Aneesha reportedly confessed to murdering their second child. Later, the police recorded the duo's arrest under various charges, including murder.
The couple, who met on Facebook in 2020, had reportedly been in a relationship despite opposition from Aneesha's mother. She has been residing in Vellikulangara with her mother and brother, who according to Aneesha, were unaware of the incidents.
As per the FIR, Aneesha told the police that their first child, born on November 6, 2021, was stillborn with the umbilical cord wrapped around the neck.

Kolkata Gangrape Case: Accused's Video Demanding Justice After RG Kar Horror Goes Viral

Last Updated: Monojit Mishra, one of the accused in the gangrape of a law student in Kolkata, previously demanded justice for the RG Kar rape-murder case victim. As probe continues into the gangrape of a 24-year-old law student in Kolkata, an old Facebook video of one of the accused, Monojit Mishra, has surfaced wherein he was seen demanding justice for the horrific RG Kar rape-murder case victim. In August last year, shortly after RG Kar horror unfolded, Monojit Mishra shared a video of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spearheading a protest. He captioned the video, demanding the death penalty for the rapist and swift justice. 'We demand noose for the rapist, we demand justice, not drama, we demand justice without delay, we demand noose for the guilty," read the caption. Now, less than a year later, Monojit himself stands accused in the shocking rape case at a Kolkata law college. Monojit, a former leader of the Trinamool unit on college campus who worked as a contractual staff, once claimed close ties with the party's top leaders. However, the Trinamool has since distanced itself from him. An alumnus of the law college, Monojit's August video featured CM Banerjee's march seeking justice for the RG Kar Hospital victim, whose case had sparked outrage across the country, prompting a CBI investigation into the case. The accused in that case, Sanjay Roy, was sentenced to life imprisonment in January this year. The new rape case involving Monojit has once again put the Trinamool government in a difficult position, with the Opposition questioning the state's law and order. While the ruling party highlights swift action by police, Opposition argues that Monojit operated with impunity due to his political connections. Monojit and his co-accused, Pramit Mukhopadhyay and Jaib Ahmed, have been expelled from the college and are in police custody. The trio will be produced in a court today. According to media reports, Monojit has a history of offenses, including stripping a woman student at South Calcutta Law College in July 2019, carrying out a robbery at a friend's home in December 2019, molesting a woman in Swinhoe Lane in March 2022, assaulting a man in April 2017, and beating a college guard and damaging property in May last year. Monojit was granted bail in all these cases. First Published: July 01, 2025, 13:15 IST
