Father, son nabbed over fake ID shop
KUALA LUMPUR: On the outside, it looked like an ordinary photography and watch shop in Chow Kit where people go in to get their photo taken for official documents.
But in reality, the shop was a one-stop centre for migrants and foreigners to get all manner of forged documents such as MyKad, MyKid, temporary work permits (PLKS), I-Kad and CIDB cards.
Run by a father and son, the shop has been operating since early this year and is believed to have attracted clients from even outside the Klang Valley.
Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said the centre was busted following an 'Ops Serkap' raid at about 7pm on May 20.
'The operation involved 15 officers who did a month of surveillance and intelligence gathering. We detained both men aged 60 and 34 in the raid.
'They have been forging documents and cards for foreigners and foreign worker agents. The foreigners are from various countries, including Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar,' he told a press conference at the KL Immigration headquarters yesterday.
The suspects would communicate with prospective customers via WhatsApp.
Customers would be asked to provide a passport photo and pay either in cash or through online methods.
'They charged customers between RM60 and RM140, depending on the complexity of the work,' said Wan Mohammed Saupee.
Among the items seized were fake I-Kad, 50 fake e-PLKS slips, forged MyKad and MyKid as well as a card printing machine, 100 blank cards, photocopy machines and mobile phones, and RM4,000 in cash.
'Their fake cards included chips and hologram stickers that seemed genuine. However, the chips would not contain any information when scanned,' he said.
On top of immigration offences, the suspects will be also investigated for money laundering.
'We are checking bank transactions of both suspects. We believe they garnered big profits from this operation,' he said.

MUAR — The public is urged to remain vigilant against fraudulent links circulated by scammers related to the one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) initiative, which are designed to collect personal information, said Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching (picture). She said the scammers often employ deceptive tactics by sharing links accompanied by posters that appear convincing, incorporating official-looking elements such as the Malaysia MADANI and Bersama Malaysiaku logos to mislead recipients. 'One such example is the link which falsely claims to provide official information about the RM100 SARA aid and prompts users to submit their personal information. The Ministry of Finance confirmed yesterday that this link is fake,' she said. She added that numerous complaints had been received regarding the matter, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had taken steps to block the fraudulent link. Teo said that such scams often evolve by creating new websites with similar names, such as ' or ' and urged the public to remain vigilant. She also stressed that no money will be deposited into e-wallets or Touch 'n Go accounts. Instead, eligible MyKad holders only need to present their identification cards at participating outlets, including Lotus's, Mydin, 99 Speedmart and selected grocery stores – to access the benefits. 'The primary role of the MyKad in this programme is solely to verify the identity of recipients. It has no connection to any e-wallet platform, so there's no need to worry if your MyKad isn't linked to certain applications,' Teo said. She also urged the public to rely only on official websites or verified social media accounts of government agencies, such as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Communications for the latest and most accurate information. Fuziah: Govt to monitor petrol stations closely as RON95 subsidy revamp looms
ALOR SETAR, July 25 — Proactive monitoring will be carried out at all petrol stations to prevent any misuse in the purchase of subsidised RON95 petrol by consumers when the petrol subsidy rationalisation exercise is implemented, said the Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh. She said the ministry is anticipating various possibilities that will require enforcement officers to be more vigilant during inspections. '…KPDN has already considered all these possibilities. For instance, a single MyKad is being used repeatedly. These are among the issues we are aware of and are looking into ways to address,' she said after taking part in an Op Kesan 4.0 inspection at a supermarket here today. She said the use of MyKad ensures that Malaysians enjoy subsidies and allows the government to track any unusual purchases or instances of RON95 petrol being pumped beyond the allowable limit for a single vehicle. Fuziah said purchase records can help the authorities detect unusual fuel transactions, enabling action to be taken, stressing that KPDN will remain vigilant in identifying any instances of leakage or misuse. '…it won't be possible to make excessive purchases, as we can detect if a MyKad is being used repeatedly, morning, noon, and night, based on the records in the system,' she said. On the Op Kesan 4.0, which was launched following the revision of the sales tax rates and the expansion of the service tax (SST) rates effective July 1, Fuziah said 950 premises were inspected, involving 3,965 stock-keeping units (SKUs) nationwide. Of that number, 950 price information notices were issued under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723), she said, adding that 23 complaints were received for further investigation. Op Kesan 4.0 aims to prevent traders from taking advantage by raising prices unreasonably or engaging in profiteering under the pretext of the SST adjustments. — Bernama
