KL Immigration rescues 14 foreign women from sex exploitation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department (JIM) rescued 14 foreign women who were believed to be victims of sexual exploitation in a raid on a prostitution premises in Jalan Petaling, here yesterday. JIM Kuala Lumpur director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said Op Pantas (ATIP) raid at about 1.15 pm was carried out based on intelligence information, with initial investigations using the National Guideline on Human Trafficking Indicators (NGHTI 2.0). He said all the rescued victims were aged between 18 and 36 years old, consisting of 10 Bangladeshi women, three Indians and one Indonesian. 'It is understood that a victim claimed to have been 'sold' by her boyfriend after they broke up, before being exploited for prostitution activities at the premises involved. 'During the raid, there were several customers who tried to escape as soon as they noticed the presence of the operation personnel,' he said in a statement today. Wan Mohammed Saupee said the premises were believed to operate from 10 am to 11 pm and accept walk-in customers. Three local men believed to be the premises' caretakers were detained to assist in the investigation under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Act 2007. 'Also detained were 16 male customers who were in the premises during the raid, consisting of nine Nepalese, two Bangladeshis and five Myanmar nationals. 'Each customer is believed to have been charged around RM60 for prostitution services offered,' he said. – Bernama

Two men jump from second floor in failed bid to escape immigration raid
KUALA LUMPUR: Two men jumped from the second floor of a shophouse in an attempt to evade arrest, while others faked unconsciousness during an Immigration Department raid here last night. Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said their tactics proved futile as 60 immigrants were rounded up in the operation. One of the two Bangladeshis who leapt from the building pretended to have broken his leg, while others claimed to have applied for a card from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), he said. He said 28 officers were involved in the "Op Selera" and "Op Kutip" operations from 10pm to 2am, at a food court and two shophouses. "A total of 137 individuals were screened, and 60 were detained, comprising 17 Indonesian men, 20 Indonesian women, 18 Myanmar men, one Myanmar woman, three Bangladeshi men and one Pakistani man. "In the first raid at a food court on Jalan Cheras, 16 foreigners were detained; 30 in the second raid in Pudu; and 14 in the final raid at a shophouse on Jalan Raja Laut in Chow Kit," he added. All the suspects were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Depot for further action under Section 6(1)(c) or Section 15(1)(c). One Immigration Form 29 (Witness Summons) was also issued during the operation. – BERNAMA

Migrants jump from building in failed escape during KL immigration raid
KUALA LUMPUR: Desperate attempts to escape an immigration raid turned chaotic as two migrants jumped from a second-floor shophouse while others faked injuries or claimed UNHCR status. The Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department (JIM) detained 60 undocumented foreigners in a late-night operation. Kuala Lumpur JIM director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff confirmed the arrests, stating that 28 officers were deployed in 'Op Selera' and 'Op Kutip' from 10 pm to 2 am. The raids targeted a food court and two shophouses in Cheras, Pudu, and Chow Kit. 'One of the Bangladeshi men who jumped pretended to have a broken leg, while others claimed to hold UNHCR cards,' Wan Mohammed Saupee said. A total of 137 individuals were screened, with 60 detained—including Indonesians, Myanmar nationals, Bangladeshis, and one Pakistani. The operation saw 16 arrests at a Cheras food court, 30 in Pudu, and 14 in Chow Kit. All detainees were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Depot for processing under immigration laws. 1,005 employers detained for hiring, harbouring undocumented migrants
KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department has detained 1,005 employers for allegedly hiring or harbouring undocumented migrants between Jan 1 and July 3 this year. Its director-general, Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, said the arrests involved employers from various sectors, including restaurants, factories and retail shops, with most being locals found sheltering foreign nationals without valid documents. "As of July, we've achieved 70 per cent of our Key Performance Indicator (KPI), and I'm confident we'll exceed our target by year-end," he told reporters at the IMI KL Run and Customer Engagement Day held here today. Also present was Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff. During the same period, the department conducted 6,913 operations nationwide, screened 97,322 foreign nationals and arrested 26,320 people for suspected immigration offences. Zakaria said enforcement efforts would continue to be intensified, with no compromise on undocumented migrants. The department is also monitoring over 200 identified hotspots across the country, including remote and rural areas. He added that public outreach events such as today's programme, which drew over 800 participants, would be continued to strengthen public engagement.

Immigration raids 2 KL massage parlours, 15 arrested
KUALA LUMPUR: Two massage parlours here offering "extra services" were raided by the Immigration Department yesterday (June 24). During the raid, several foreign women who were in the "heat of the moment" with their customers panicked upon realising the presence of Immigration officers. Some of the women refused to open the doors for inspection. One of the massage parlours offered "premium" packages at RM580 per session. Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said Op Gegar led to the detention of 15 people, aged 25 to 40. "Our team raided two premises in Taman Maluri and Taman Connaught and inspected 26 people. "Of the 15 detained, 13 were foreign women suspected of working at the premises," he said today. He said checks revealed that seven of the women were from Vietnam, three from Thailand, two from Indonesia and one from Laos. "Two others detained were men who were hired as caretakers and coordinators of the premises. "The detained women were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Detention Depot for further action." The case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
