Let's Talk Ball: Right & wrong from Beane, Bills draft

Yahoo29-04-2025
Brandon Beane seemed to some things that he needed to get off his chest when he appeared on Buffalo radio station WGR Monday morning. Buffalo Kickoff Live co-hosts Thad Brown and Carl Jones had some things they needed to get off their chest about what Beane had to say. They aren't surprised the Bills front office is starting to boil over a bit.
It's not because this draft was bad. Thad and Carl discuss why Maxwell Hairston can expand playmaking options at corner. And he might not be the only one. Plus, the picks that opened eyes and why this was a good and bad year to remake the defensive line.

Bills love the ‘Bald Mamba' Alex Caruso

The post Bills love the 'Bald Mamba' Alex Caruso appeared first on ClutchPoints. Amid the Buffalo Bills' training camp before their preseason schedule, one name kept coming out of the players' mouths: Oklahoma City Thunder's Alex Caruso. Fresh off of winning the 2025 NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers, Caruso left a lasting impression. The Bills' social media team asked a handful of players a question that led to many of them to mention 'The Bald Mamba.' Bills players mentioned Caruso when a someone asked who is the most famous bald person in the world, per the Bills' X, formerly Twitter. 'Alex Caruso,' Bills' offensive lineman Rush Reimer said. Bills running back James Cook had the same answer and a handful of others, including Bills players and a group of NFL officials. While the two-time champion has no ties to upstate New York, the Bills are clearly fans of Caruso's latest championship run. Caruso's full-circle moment with the Thunder started in 2016. After going undrafted, he spent a full season with the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder's G League affiliate, Caruso signed a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. After playing for the South Bay Lakers, Los Angeles' G League squad, he ascended to the Lakers in 2019. Caruso was a catalyst for the 2020 champion Lakers and served as the Thunder's veteran leader in 2024-25. His tenacious approach to defense made him a fan favorite. Caruso was also a three-point shooting threat on the opposite end of the floor. He averaged 10.1 points on 43.4% shooting, including 40% from deep, 3.6 rebounds, 2.4 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game throughout the Thunder's grueling seven-game NBA Finals against the Pacers. Josh Allen reveals Super Bowl goal for 2025 Bills After losing 32-29 against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship, Bills quarterback Josh Allen has one goal this season. Reaching the Super Bowl is what the Bills' only goal for the entire 2025 campaign. 'That's the only thing on my mind in camp, is just like, what can we do to bring a Lombardi trophy home?' Allen said, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Michael Robinson. 'The main thing is whether it's rain, it's snow, it's heat, put the ball down [and] let's go play football,' Allen added. 'That's the mentality we're developing here. You can put us on the parking lot, put us on turf, grass, it don't matter. We're going to come out there and we're going to give you our best shot. We've got a bunch of guys who are selfless and who love playing for each other. And we still have that mentality that everybody eats.' Allen and the Bills will enter the 2025 NFL season with expectations at an all-time high. 3 key Buffalo Bills players struggling early in 2025 NFL training camp

The post 3 key Buffalo Bills players struggling early in 2025 NFL training camp appeared first on ClutchPoints. NFL training camp is not for the weak, and the Buffalo Bills are no exception as the 2025 NFL season gets closer. Despite having the second-best odds to win the Super Bowl, the cracks are showing early in the Bills' training camp. The injuries are piling up, and players are not escaping the Bills' practices without suffering minor injuries. Even worse, three Bills players are struggling to do well as training camp nearly reaches the one-week mark. Injuries always happen in NFL training camp. However, some of those can be limiting. Some injuries can also cause players to underperform. With this team, it's hitting fast and furious, and not at a sustainable level. Obviously, suffering injuries early in the season causes less damage than if it were to happen in the middle or toward the end. Regardless, that is not something anyone wants to see. The Bills have Super Bowl aspirations this season. However, to get there, they need to keep key players off the injured list. They also need some of their top players to perform at their level. Here are three contributors who need to do better to help Buffalo reach that goal. Dalton Kincaid battles injuries through NFL training camp Dalton Kincaid struggled in 2024, and it drew a lot of criticism from fans and football experts. Ultimately, there were higher expectations for the 2023 first-round draft pick. Kincaid shone in 2023, with 73 receptions for 673 yards and two touchdowns. Naturally, many assumed he would take the next step and do even more damage in 2024. Instead, Kincaid's numbers dipped. Kincaid had just 44 receptions for 448 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, he dropped a critical pass in the AFC Championship Game loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Kincaid has struggled to bounce back, and the trend has continued in the Bills' training camp. Now, there are some concerns that the injury might cause a ripple effect for him. This is more pressing for the team, considering that they need more receivers than ever as Josh Allen leads the charge. Kincaid did not perform well after returning to the Bills' practice on Tuesday. It was apparent that he was being more cautious than ever. Significantly, Kincaid missed Monday's practice with a knee injury, and that may be limiting what he can do. For now, it seems like the knee injury is not serious enough to keep him out for an extended time, but it is something that bears monitoring over the next few days. DaQuan Jones is not having a good Bills training camp DaQuan Jones is not guaranteed a roster spot, and that is surprising. Overall, he is not a bad player. But it also seems like he is not a player guaranteed a spot in the 2025 NFL season, either. Jones had 11 solo tackles and 2.5 sacks during 16 games. Unfortunately, the 2024 NFL season was not good for him. Jones just did not perform at a good level. It's noteworthy that he posted a run grade of 53.4, according to PFF. Also, he missed 24.2 percent of his tackles. That ranked 14th-worst among any defenders with over 600 snaps. Jones played most of the snaps and is currently in the starter's role. However, that could change easily as he is in the final year of his contract. It appears that Jones is occupying the role for now before Larry Ogunjobi returns. Tyler Bass must kick well in the 2025 NFL season This was the story last season, too. Well, it's happening again. Tyler Bass is not having a good NFL training camp. Moreover, the rain decided to drench him. With the 2025 NFL season around the corner, this is something the Bills must look at. Bass went 4-for-8 on field-goal attempts in the rain. While it is not always going to rain on him, that is a cause for concern. The Bills play in Orchard Park, and often get the worst weather imaginable in the winter months. There will be a time when they need Bass to make an important kick. If he cannot kick well in the rain, how will he do in the snow? It might be an overreaction here. Yes, Bills fans have seen Bass make amazing kicks in all kinds of weather. But Bass has done well in the past in temperatures under 40 degrees. However, he has not been completely immune to it. Bass had a 92 percent overall rate on extra points, and some of that had a lot to do with the cold weather. For now, this is not something to get too worked up about. Yet, it is also something to keep an eye on as the season gets closer. The Bills' practices won't show the entire story. But they will show some cracks in the foundation, and that is something the team must address. Josh Allen will love the Bills' latest injury update

The post Josh Allen will love the Bills' latest injury update appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Buffalo Bills have had Super Bowl aspirations for several seasons. While they have been able to dominate the AFC East for each of the last five seasons, they have not been able to get the job done in the postseason. Quarterback Josh Allen ranks with the best quarterbacks in the game, but when it comes to winning the biggest games in the postseason. the Bills have fallen short. That is the specter that hangs over the head of Allen and Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott. The one thing that must happen if the Bills are going to get past the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals is that Allen must go into the playoffs fully healthy. If the team is able to protect him for 17 games in the regular season and he has no limitations due to major or minor injuries, the Bills know that Allen is capable of making highlight-film plays that lead his team to victory. Allen received good news in the still-early phase of training camp when Buffalo right tackle Spencer Brown was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Brown had been sidelined due to a 'flare up' of his back, according to Bills beat reporter Joe Buscaglia. It's one thing for Brown to rejoin the team as the calendar is about to turn to August, but it's quite another for him to remain healthy throughout the remainder of the summer and then the season. The Bills are certainly hopeful that Brown will be able to start all season without issues, but back issues offer no guarantees that his back will hold up all season. Bills have a powerful team and remain AFC East favorites Allen is one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL, and the Bills are hoping that he can match what he was able to accomplish last year. He completed 307 of 483 passes for 3,731 yard with 28 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Allen also ran for 531 yards with 12 touchdowns and a 5.2 yards per carry average. The Bills quarterback is clearly a multi-talented weapon, but he puts himself at risk every time he carries the ball. He is big, strong, fast and powerful, but if running back James Cook can continue to improve after last season's 1,009-yard season, it should help Allen's longevity by taking some of the physical burden off of the quarterback. McDermott and the Bills' front office knows that even the biggest and most athletic quarterbacks can be vulnerable, and the team would be in a better position if it can protect its best asset.
