30 most important Bills players of 2025: No. 30 T.J. Sanders
As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the 2025 NFL season, we'll take a look at the most important contributors on their roster. They have a ton of cornerstone players who will be returning for another shot at bringing a Lombardi Trophy to Buffalo, and they'll have help from some new additions as well. Leading up to the season, we will be counting down the top 30 most important players on the roster. We'll recap their 2024 season, look ahead to what they'll offer in 2025, and tackle the most pressing questions surrounding them this coming year. First on the countdown is TJ Sanders, a rookie defensive tackle from the University of South Carolina. Background Position: DT Age at start of season: 22 Experience: Rookie 2025 cap hit: Still hasn't signed rookie deal 2024 recap In his redshirt junior season with the Gamecocks, Sanders played in all 13 games and recorded four sacks to go with seven tackles for loss, which was a slight dip in production from the year prior. He showed unique power and athleticism for his frame (6'4", 297 lbs). 2025 outlook Sanders should work his way into the defensive line rotation right off the bat in his rookie year barring a setback. He will most likely backup Ed Oliver on early downs but general manager Brandon Beane talked after draft day about pairing him with Ed Oliver in the middle on clear passing downs. He should add some much-needed juice in the interior pass-rush department. Biggest question: Can Sanders generate consistent pressure at the NFL level? He was one of the more productive interior defensive linemen in college football when it comes to getting after the passer. He had 8.5 sacks from the defensive tackle spot over the last two seasons, which is impressive for an interior defender and a big reason why Beane traded up to select him. The NFL will be a new challenge. A good thing for Sanders is the fact that defenses will most likely focus on his teammates that will be lined up next to him like Oliver, Joey Bosa, and Greg Rousseau, which should open up some opportunities. 30 Most Important Bills of 2025 Check back as we continue to countdown on our list of the 30 most important Bills ahead of the 2025 season.

Josh Allen's touchdown dominance overshadows Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts ahead of 2025 season
Josh Allen is set for the 2025 NFL season after his wedding (Image via AP) Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is entering the 2025 NFL season not just with a ring on his finger, but also with a renewed sense of purpose. Fresh off his wedding to actress-singer Hailee Steinfeld, Allen is riding a wave of personal and professional momentum—and the numbers prove it. Josh Allen's dominance forces comparisons with Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Despite falling short of the Super Bowl last season, Allen's MVP campaign silenced critics and turned heads across the league. With 3,731 passing yards, 28 touchdowns through the air, and an additional 531 rushing yards with 12 rushing TDs, Allen's performance was unmatched. Over the last three seasons, he's totaled a staggering 126 touchdowns—more than any other quarterback in that span. The stat becomes even more impressive when compared to his rivals. He's recorded 21 more total touchdowns than Jalen Hurts and has surpassed both Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow, who are tied behind him. This remarkable feat places Allen in a league of his own—even though Mahomes and Hurts have hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy. A new era under Joe Brady and a clear message: start fresh, dominate again Heading into training camp on July 23, the Bills are switching gears under new offensive coordinator Joe Brady. His plan is simple but disciplined: build the offense from the ground up, even with an MVP quarterback at the helm. 'You don't get to pick off where you left off, and we really don't want to,' Brady said. 'Josh embodies that, we're starting over.' The focus is on refining every detail of the playbook, which Brady says can even benefit a veteran like Allen: 'Sometimes you think you know everything... if you really humble yourself to just starting over, there's always little things you can pick up.' Also Read: Brittany Mahomes called out over fake friendship with Taylor Swift and shocking Patrick Mahomes drama With 11 open practices and a new uniform reveal scheduled for August 1, excitement in Buffalo is at a peak. The Bills are betting big on Allen—and the MVP is carrying the weight of those expectations. With elite numbers and a fresh start under a new coordinator, Allen is making it clear: this season isn't about catching up to Mahomes and Hurts. It's about surpassing them. 2025 Buffalo Bills training camp preview: Running backs
The Buffalo Bills are moving into their next major offseason phase in due time: Training camp. The Bills will kick off their 2025 training camp on July 23 at St. John Fisher University. As with every offseason, Bills Wire will examine each position group ahead of this pivotal time on the football calendar. Today's training camp preview will focus on Buffalo's quarterback situation. Our 2025 running backs preview can be found below: At the top James Cook will once again lead the way for the Bills. Cook eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing barrier for the second consecutive season, ending the year with 1,009 yards on 202 carries. Cook was a threat in the passing game as well, catching 32 passes for 258 receiving yards. Cook broke out, finding the end zone 18 times (16 rushing and 2 receiving) last year. While Cook played in fewer than half of the offensive snaps last year, his efficiency when he has the ball in his hands makes him the first option out of the backfield. Cook's elusiveness from the handoff and improvements in the receiving game make him a three-down offensive weapon. Depth chart According to quarterback Josh Allen and head coach Sean McDermott, the Bills have the best third-down back in the game, Ty Johnson. Johnson doesn't put up gaudy numbers, but the veteran always seems to make things happen when the ball is in his possession. Johnson exploded against his former team, the Detroit Lions, in Week 15, catching five passes for 114 yards. In addition, Johnson made arguably the best catch of the postseason against Denver in the Super Wild Card round of the playoffs. The Bills also have Ray Davis in the fold. A 2024 fourth-round pick, Davis is a solid depth option for Buffalo. He is a strong runner between the tackles. During his rookie year, Davis carried the ball 113 times for 442 yards and three touchdowns. The Kentucky product added 17 receptions for 189 yards and three touchdowns. Buffalo brought back Frank Gore Jr. on a reserve/futures contract. Veteran Darrynton Evans rounds out the group. Both Gore Jr. and Evans will most likely land on the team's practice squad this year. In 2025... The most intriguing offseason story centers on Cook and his contract status. Cook enters the final year of his rookie deal, and he's alluded to the type of money he feels like he deserves. At this point, it's been more of a media story than anything else, but it's still worth monitoring. Cook showed up for mandatory offseason activities throughout the summer. On the field, expect Cook to continue his efficient play. He will play approximately half of the offensive snaps. A third consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season would mean wonders for Buffalo and Cook's wallet. The Bills will rely on Davis and Johnson when called upon. Johnson has been a reliable and responsible third-down back, and there's no reason to believe that will change. Davis, for his part, will push for an expanded role, especially if Buffalo thinks Davis could take the reins in the backfield in the years beyond this season.

Is Sean McDermott's job at risk? Bills coach in top 10 of NFL hot seat rankings
Western New York just sweltered through a heat wave, but could the heat really be on Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott? USA TODAY thinks his seat is getting warmer. It ranked McDermott as the No. 9 NFL coach whose job is in jeopardy in its hot seat rankings, despite winning five straight AFC East titles and coming off an AFC Championship Game appearance. Advertisement New York Giants head coach and former Buffalo offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was No. 1 on the list as a prime candidate to be fired after a 3-14 record in 2024. Since taking over in 2017, McDermott has transformed the Bills from a team mired in a playoff drought to a perennial AFC contender. The Bills have made the playoffs in seven of McDermott's first eight seasons. However, McDermott has yet to lead them to a Super Bowl. Buffalo has lost twice to Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game and once to the Chiefs in the Divisional Round. ORCHARD PARK, NEW YORK - DECEMBER 01: Josh Allen #17 of the Buffalo Bills and head coach Sean McDermott make snow angels while being interviewed after the Bills defeated the the San Francisco 49ers, 35-10, at Highmark Stadium on December 01, 2024 in Orchard Park, New York. (Photo by Bryan M. Bennett/Getty Images) "The Bills continue to be unable to get past the Chiefs in the NFL postseason," USA TODAY wrote in placing McDermott on the "neutral seat." "If they can't do it again, Buffalo brass may try something different despite McDermott's success as the team's coach." Advertisement Buffalo is hardy alone in struggling to overcome the Chiefs. Kansas City, led by Patrick Mahomes, has appeared in seven straight AFC Championship Games, winning five. McDermott's 86 regular-season wins in his first eight seasons are the second-most in league history, behind only Paul Brown's 87. He's also one of just five coaches in NFL history to secure five straight seasons with at least 11 wins.
