BBA, BCA e-registration begins
Indore: The department of technical education (DTE), Madhya Pradesh, commenced the online registrations for admissions into professional undergraduate courses — Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) — following a revised schedule.
This year marks the inclusion of BBA and BCA under the ambit of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), with DTE conducting the online admissions counselling for these courses for the first time. Initially, it was proposed that both courses would follow the semester system in line with AICTE's general structure. But, the higher education department has clarified that BBA and BCA will continue under the annual examination system for the 2025–26 academic session.
In another development, the Association of Colleges has raised concerns about limited specialisations offered in BBA. Representatives from the association have urged the DTE to approve additional BBA specialisations such as hotel administration, foreign trade, and hospitality management. A letter has been sent to DTE recommending that students be given opportunities to choose from various industry-relevant domains, similar to MBA programmes.

Many young aspirants are compelled to pause their formal education midway to shoulder financial responsibilities or seize immediate job opportunities. Recognising the untapped potential of such individuals, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has pioneered a transformative initiative--the Working Professional Scheme for Engineering and Management--which enables working individuals to re-enter the educational mainstream without disrupting their current employment. AICTE's Working Professional Scheme is designed with one clear objective: to empower those who had to prioritise work over education and now wish to uplift their careers through formal qualifications and upgraded skills. This initiative, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, reaffirms our commitment to lifelong learning, industry integration, and inclusive technical education. What sets this scheme apart is its flexibility and inclusivity. It is designed specifically for working professionals--whether in the public sector, private industry, or self-employed. Evening classes, weekend sessions, and blended learning models (online + offline) allow aspirants to continue education alongside employment. Notably, the maximum permissible distance between a learner's workplace/residence and the institute has been extended to 75 kilometres, enhancing accessibility. The AICTE Working Professional Scheme is operational across 290 institutes in 28 states and UTs, offering more than 828 approved programs across Diploma, Undergraduate (UG), and Postgraduate (PG) levels in both Engineering & Computer Science and Management (MBA & PGDM). Maharashtra leads the chart with 57 institutes, offering 158 programs, followed by Tamil Nadu (52 institutes, 170 programs) and Kerala (21 institutes, 54 programs). Odisha, Gujarat, Telangana, and Karnataka also show strong institutional participation. Programme-Level Highlights Diploma Programs (Engineering & CS): Offered by 241 institutes, with states like Odisha (33), Maharashtra (43), and Kerala (24) being key contributors. Undergraduate Programs (Engineering & CS): The most widely offered, with 394 courses across 28 states. Tamil Nadu alone offers 101 UG courses. Postgraduate Programs (Engineering & CS): Offered in 193 programs, with Tamil Nadu (41) and Maharashtra (22) leading. Management UG/PG (MBA, PGDM, HM): Offered in 63 programs, with states like Maharashtra (18) and Karnataka (5) actively participating. A total of 26,814 seats were offered under this scheme in 2024-25, but only 3,435 enrollments were recorded. This reveals a critical awareness gap that must be addressed through strategic outreach, industry collaboration, and media campaigns. AICTE firmly believes that with greater outreach and promotion, the upcoming academic sessions should witness full capacity utilisation. Students face increased counselling charges for BBA, BCA admissions after shift to DTE
Indore: Students seeking admission in BBA and BCA courses are facing a sharp increase in counselling charges this year, following the shift of the admission process from the Department of Higher Education (DHE) to the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE). With choice filling beginning on Thursday, students are now required to pay Rs1530, including Rs130 as portal charges— 10 times more than the Rs150 fee charged until last year. The sudden hike has added to the financial strain for students, particularly because BBA and BCA courses already have higher academic costs compared to other undergraduate programmes. The examination fee for BBA and BCA is around Rs4000, while for traditional courses like BA and BCom, it stands at approximately Rs2000. "This increase in the registration fee is a huge burden. Many of us come from middle-class families and already struggle with high exam fees and other academic expenses. We also appeared for various entrance tests which are heavy on our pockets," said Priyanshi Jain, an aspirant applying for BBA. "The jump from Rs150 to Rs1530 feels unfair and unplanned." We plan to write to the department requesting a reconsideration or reduction," a senior professor said. While choice filling was scheduled to start on Wednesday as per DTE's schedule, the portal became operational only by Thursday morning. However, students were greeted with a small but welcome change—the addition of a third specialisation in the BBA course. Alongside Hotel Management and Foreign Trade, students can now opt for BBA in Hospital Administration (HA). The inclusion came after repeated discussions between college representatives and DTE officials. College administrators urged the authorities to allow all three specialisations under plain BBA to widen students' career options. Despite the new addition, the increased counselling charges remain a major concern among aspiring students and their families.

Students with gross parental/family income of up to Rs. 4.5 lakh per annum. For renewal of the scholarship, a student must secure at least 50 per cent marks in the annual examination and maintain at least 75 per cent attendance. For students pursuing professional courses where the duration of the course is five years and students pursuing integrated courses will get ₹ 12,000 per annum for the first three and ₹ 20,000 per annum in the fourth and fifth years. Similarly, students pursuing technical courses such as BTech, BEngg. will get ₹ 12,000 per annum up to graduation level and ₹ 20,000 in the fourth year.
