BBA, BCA e-registration begins

Indore: The department of technical education (DTE), Madhya Pradesh, commenced the online registrations for admissions into professional undergraduate courses — Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) — following a revised schedule. This year marks the inclusion of BBA and BCA under the ambit of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), with DTE conducting the online admissions counselling for these courses for the first time. Initially, it was proposed that both courses would follow the semester system in line with AICTE's general structure. But, the higher education department has clarified that BBA and BCA will continue under the annual examination system for the 2025–26 academic session. In another development, the Association of Colleges has raised concerns about limited specialisations offered in BBA. Representatives from the association have urged the DTE to approve additional BBA specialisations such as hotel administration, foreign trade, and hospitality management. A letter has been sent to DTE recommending that students be given opportunities to choose from various industry-relevant domains, similar to MBA programmes. TNN

MAH CET deadline extended to June 27 for BBA, BCA, BBM, BMS courses

Jun 23, 2025 06:50 AM IST The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has extended the application deadline for the additional MAH CET 2025 to June 27 in response to lower turnout this year. The additional CET will be conducted online on July 19 and 20 with the same syllabus, exam format, and percentile-based scoring system as the regular exam. (REPRESENTATIVE PIC) These undergraduate professional courses include Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), Bachelor of Business Management (BBM), and Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS). Earlier this year, the regular MAH CET was held on April 29 and 30, with 72,259 students registered. However, only 61,666 candidates appeared, leading to a significant number of vacant seats. The decision was taken following requests from students, parents, and academic institutions concerned about the large number of unfilled seats across colleges in the state, said officials. The additional CET will be conducted online on July 19 and 20 with the same syllabus, exam format, and percentile-based scoring system as the regular exam. The admit cards will be released soon on the official portal where candidates can access their exam schedule and other essential details using their login credentials.

CET Cell receives tepid response to entrance test for undergrad admissions

PUNE: Even after multiple extensions and widespread awareness campaigns, the state Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has received a lukewarm response to the entrance test for professional undergraduate courses including Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), and Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA). As per the results declared today, only around 72,000 students have registered for the CET this year, which governs admissions to more than 1.05 lakh seats across Maharashtra. This marks the second consecutive year of underwhelming participation since these courses were reclassified as 'professional' under the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in 2023. Before this shift, admissions were based solely on class 12 marks, a system that many stakeholders are now demanding be reinstated. Despite launching the registration process four months ahead of the exam and collaborating with universities and institutions to boost outreach, the state CET Cell struggled to attract adequate numbers. The registration deadline was extended three times, finally closing on March 28, 2025, while every effort was made to reach potential aspirants. A CET Cell official said, 'We launched targeted campaigns, partnered with colleges and universities, and used both digital and traditional media for outreach. Some principals advised us to keep registrations open after class 12 exams, which we did. But the response remained below expectations.' While the number of students registering for the CET has increased by 27% as compared to last year's figure of around 57,000, it remains insufficient to fill the 1.05 lakh seats available. In 2024, the state conducted a second CET round after the first failed to attract enough candidates, yet only 40,000 students eventually took admission. Many private colleges, which host a large share of these courses, are now lobbying the state's higher education department to revert to the previous admission system based on Class 12 results. They argue that the CET requirement has discouraged students, particularly from smaller towns and non-urban backgrounds.
