Channel 9 unveils first ever Golden Bachelor ahead of series premiere
The network revealed on Friday that Barry 'Bear' Myrden will take on the leading role for the upcoming Australian adaptation. According to Daily Mail, Barry is a widowed father of three, an infrastructure engineer, and a passionate sailor.
He is also a respected professional in the tech industry, with his LinkedIn stating he is currently working in Data Centre Management for Woolworths Group.

While the cast is yet to be announced, it's already been leaked that Abbie Chatfield's mum, Laura, 65, will be following in her daughter's footsteps as a contestant on the dating show.
The podcast host has been petitioning for her mother to be cast on the series for quite a while, admitting in 2023 that she would love for her 'single, hot' mum to star in an Australian version of The Golden Bachelor. She also proposed a similar concept in 2021, writing on her Instagram Story: 'Petition for mum to be a 61-year-old Bachelorette'.

The inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor in the US starred 72-year-old Gerry Turner, a widower and father of two. The show received its highest viewership in three years, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and was praised by fans for its inclusivity and diversity.
A second season titled The Golden Bachelorette premiered in the US in September with 61-year-old private school administrator and widow Joan Vassos in the leading role, and a 'Golden' version of Bachelor In Paradise is currently airing.

‘Golden Bachelor' Mel Owens confronted by contestants on show after his age remarks
Mel Owens is correcting his recent fumble. The former NFL star, 66, revealed that while filming this season of 'The Golden Bachelor,' some of the contestants confronted him for his ageist remarks.
