'The Guest' photos: Eva Myles, Gabrielle Creevy star in thriller
July 3 (UPI) -- The BBC is teasing its upcoming four-part thriller The Guest, starring Touchwood actress Eve Myles and In My Skin star Gabrielle Creevy.
The pair will portray businesswoman Fran and housekeeper Ria, respectively.
One of the first-look photos released Thursday show Fran putting a nude lipstick on Ria.
The drama follows the evolution of their "toxic and beguiling relationship," an official synopsis states.
"When Fran's advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots," the description continues. "What follows is a compelling and manipulative game of cat and mouse. But just who is playing who?"
Matthew Barry directs from a script he wrote, and the cast also includes Sion Daniel Young and Emun Elliott.
The Guest is due on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the fall.

Dr. Phil's media company files for bankruptcy protection

File photo by Chris Chew/UPI | License Photo July 4 (UPI) -- Former daytime television talk show host Phil McGraw's JV Merit Street Media has filed for bankruptcy protection and sued its business partner, Trinity Broadcasting, for breach of contract, saying it destroyed his television network. McGraw, known as Dr. Phil, hosted his talk show for 21 years before it ended after the 2022-2023 season, a program that remained on the air in syndication. Merit Street's lawsuit focuses on Christian television broadcaster Trinity Broadcasting Network, and claims it violated distribution agreements. "Trinity Broadcasting Network is being sued by Merit Street Media for failing to provide clearly agreed upon national distribution and other significant foundational commitments critical to the network's continuing success and viability," according to a statement from MSM, reported. "The suit is part of a restructuring proceeding also initiated by MSM." TBN was founded in 1973 by televangelist Paul Crouch and his wife, Jan, and is currently operated by Matthew Crouch. In 2000, Paul Crouch was sued for $40 million by author Sylvia Fleener, who accused Paul Crouch of plagiarism in his book The Omega Code, which had an apocalyptic, end times theme. Crouch was also accused of paying a former male employee $425,000 to keep the man quiet about a sexual relationship Crouch had with him. Under terms of the deal, TBN was to distribute original versions of McGraw's content at no cost in exchange for a controlling equity interest in the network, the lawsuit said. The Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing comes just weeks after the company laid off 40 employees, the second round of job cuts which followed layoffs in Aug. 2024 that saw the company release a third of its staff.

Before he landed the role of the villain, Lex Luthor, Nicholas Hoult had his eye on playing the hero, Superman. Nicholas Hoult and David Corenswet stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote their upcoming film, Superman, which was directed and written by James Gunn. The guest host, Diego Luna, asked them about their audition process. The Hollywood Reporter revealed in 2023 that Hoult was one of the finalists for the role of Superman. However, the part went to Corenswet. 'I walked out of doing one of my audition scenes, and I was like, 'Yeah, not bad. OK,' And I walked around the corner, and there was lots of shadows on the studio lot and then one ray of sunshine,' Hoult recalled. 'David had taken a seat in this ray of sunshine and was sitting there, charging up from the sun like Superman does, getting his power.' The Nosferatu actor continued, 'I walked over to say hello, and he stood up, and I was like, 'Goddamn, he's about an inch taller than me. Look at his hair. Look at his jawline.'
